- In this video, we dive into the re-release of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP on the Nintendo Switch. This cult classic, known for its over-the-top zombie-slaying action and collaboration between Suda51 and James Gunn, is back with a fresh coat of paint... but how does it hold up in 2024?
I’ll be talking about my experience with the game, including the updated features and what it’s like to revisit Juliet Starling’s chaotic, chainsaw-wielding adventure on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Does this re-release live up to expectations, or are there some surprises in store? Here's a hint, we'll be breaking down the frame rate!
eShop Description:
Throw logic to the wind and embrace your instincts! The legendary zombie hunter Juliet is finally back!
Lollipop Chainsaw, which sold 1.24 million copies worldwide, is back with the latest graphics!
The cheerleader Juliet, born into a family of zombie hunters, uses her trusty chainsaw to rip and tear through the undead! But now that RePOP adds speedier chainsaw action and auto-fire for her chainsaw blaster, the action never slows down till the very end! And it's not just the gameplay that's been improved, the visuals and soundtrack have been powered up too! Don't miss out on this unparalleled zombie hunting adventure!
<STORY>
The story starts in San Romero High School, the largest high school in the district, somewhere on the west coast of the US of A. Protagonist Juliet Starling, is an exemplary student of San Romero who passionately loves cheerleading. Unbeknownst to most, however, her family, the Starlings, has been a lineage of zombie hunters, guiding the undead to beyond since ancient times…
The incident unfolds on Juliet's birthday. She heads to school to meet her boyfriend, but as she pedals her bicycle into the school grounds, she is greeted by the sight of her former schoolmates, who have all been turned into zombies!

Whoa Doesn't sound like a Switch problem..sounds like a lazy developer issue again -
Unfortunately and every time it happens it's also just ammo used against the switch and ik it's not the most powerful system out there but it's far more capable than some people give it credit for but it's also heartbreaking to see people being attacked sometimes just for enjoying playing things on switch in certain places online idk just stinks
@@RaxonXVItotally agree with you
Kinda both sides have problems. Devs for not properly optimizing and switch for its somewhat underpowered hardware
@@KGKSkull yeah tho it wasn't so bad at launch but it's getting long in the tooth but there's still some devs who are able to work some real magic and there's others who refuse to even really try it feels like tho those I wonder if you're not even gonna even attempt to make it a solid way to play the game why bother? But still the switch is my favorite console of all time and I'm hoping the switch 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) doesn't suffer from business choices that corporations are making just make it more powerful with backwards compatibility but don't start censoring region locking or anything like that (sorry for my tangent 😅)
@@RaxonXVI oh the switch about a month or two post launch was an absolute unit of a console thanks to its budget friendly price and bang for buck with the joycons, but it has limits
Despite the shortcomings of Lollipop Chainsaw Repop, SwitchCorner scores!

I didn't think IGN covered it, or did they say something. It seems they didn't send out review copies which is always a warning sign
IGN didn't review the new remaster they sent you to the old review. Didn't even make an attempt to cover the new stuff and changes. Disappointed in them.
Oh no way, they just did one of those updated links for an old review, hate that.
IGN refused to cover it for woke reasons.
imagine caring what stupid rapists think
Honestly, if you were to change the blood to sparkles and rainbows; you should of changed the enemies from zombies to something like a unicorn virus that explode into overwhelming happiness or something to give it a unique flavor of sillyness.
Yeah! Gori just did that exact thing basically but blood and unicorns lol
Like the Harley vision in James Gunn's Suicide squad, which was a callback to the game he wrote the story for
I bought the switch port and despite its glaring issues I still absolutely enjoyed it and had a great time with it.
When Neir Automata and Mon Hun Rise run as well as they do, a game from the PS3 era shouldn’t run this bad.
Feels like a bit of a bad port issue, more than a Switch hardware issue.
Yeah i'll just save my money for the Shadows of the Damned Remaster next month, which is actually done by Suda and his team....
Shadows of the Damned is being ported by the team that brought over the fantastic ports of the Silver Case and NMH 1+2. We should be in for a treat.
Hopefully a patch will address it.
Saints Row The Third and Red Dead Redemption ran beautifully, and both were a PS3/360 game. Saints Row The Third had started out with similar issues as the PS3 before the final patch made it smoother than before.
I hope so
@@adri8play555i’ll probably save my money when they do.
Remember when remaster meant it was actually "better"?
In this case it is, just on on Switch. They really need to release Switch 2 soon. My phone is probably more powerful than Switch.
I bought it today on Switch, just did the intro stage and gave up because the game is just unplayable right now. I hope they will fix that soon. :(
But I read that it's not really better on PC and PS5 tough.
I got it for PC and it runs completely fine
This is the type of game I would play on another platform anyway. Switch is basically my rpg machine lol
Very fair video. Yes, the Switch version does have frame rate drops. The cutscene would be muddy at the beginning and then the graphics will catch up. I am having fun with the game. I am very far into the game. I posted some 30 second clips of the game on X. I did encounter a weird glitch but it corrected itself. I noticed some music is missing. The most notable one was “Hey Mickey”. I think the people who did this “remaster” could’ve made it work.
It’s not just the switch version having troubles but at every version too. Even on PC version had troubles running too.
Switch is too weak, every single third party game runs and looks like absolute shit, even the first party games have frame drops
@@014adonis Not true. RE6 runs smooth. Super Mario Wonder runs smooth. Bayonetta Origins runs smooth. Not all games runs like crap.
@@014adonisNot even close to true, TROLLBOT.😂
You managed to deliver more information in a brief comment than this dimwit did in an entire video. Did they replace "Mickey" with anything similar? The loss of music like that due to copyright would seriously hurt the vibes of the original.
Yeah finished it yesterday, the first intro area is by far the worst in my opinion. Dont know if its because its a big open area with alot of effects and stuff going on but once i got to the Highschool the performance got better, not great but better than the opening. Unless you hit a stack of chairs lol, that will drop your frames to single digits for a moment as the physic engine tries its best. One soft lock where my screen stayed white but could move around, happened during a boss fight near the end. Plenty of low poly characters in cutscenes where you see a feature less figure then it quickly catches up and adds all the detail. It needs patches, kinda bummed someone saw this and said yup ready to ship. You can still play and 100% everything on it like this guy said, but the story and absurd dialogue is probably whats gonna keep you pushing through said issues. It is definitely a game you would not see made today, think thats its main selling point, and not talking about hot women etc, the dialogue is hilarious and absurd and would be kicked off most social media sites lol.
Sadly theres no point buying 3rd party switch games unless you have no other option. The hardware is done
“Well” it’s possible all games can be updated for Switch 2, that’s all we got from Ps5,Xbox series x upgrade to 60fps very little Graphics change
If the next switch is backwards compatible, wouldn’t it fix framerate and graphics issues on current poor switch performing games because it’ll be more powerful and would be able to handle those games better?
I guess it depends on the issue. I imagine frame rate it could potentially fix but some would need patches no doubt.
I bought RePOP digitally for PC so I can enjoy it now, but also purchased it on Switch with plans to play it on the Switch successor. I am hopeful it will run great on new Nintendo hardware.
Glad I never wasted my money on these newer systems, I have a PS4 and a PS3, I think I'll look for the original, it's a blast to play, should have never sold my original PS3 copy....
Yeah....people are hoarding THAT copy even harder now according to a retro game store owner I talk to fairly regularly. PS3 is also the most expensive version, I should know cause just like you I've been kicking myself for trading that game in years ago for a a discount on a newer game...I thought I'd get it back easy enough but I've yet to find a good copy of the PS3 version for under 100 bucks on the resell market...heaven forbid you try to get a new in box version someone has been holding on to for years.
Mod the crap of your PS3 and play it that way. I would love to support this game but not in the current state it’s in now.
Thanks for the review Alex. I was interested in this game before. Not anymore now. You saved my wallet. 😅
I'd tell you how it runs on the PS5, but for some reason, when Dragami Games said it's coming out in Europe, they only meant Germany and the UK, seeing it's not avaliable in most European countries
Apparently, it has something to do with language support, which smells like BS because if that was the case, there would be practically no games on the PSN in my region
The development and publishing of RePop has been a moderate trainwreck, not launch Cyberpunk 2077 bad, but definitely not good either
I could get it on Steam, but people have been reporting all kinds of issues with higher end PCs. Real bummer because I'm a huge fan and was waiting for the re-release
No surprised. Ill get the PS5 version.
From the comments I'm seeing mixed opinions on PS5 too. Im trying to work out where is best to play
Thank you for giving a very honest review. There aren't many larger channels who do that for us anymore.
I KNEW I'd seen that framerate graph somewhere before... It's just come to me...
Joy Division... the cover of Unknown Pleasures
Framerate caving iiiiiin
The switch version should have never got approved for release. It's horrible.
Apparently none are great
I really hope that they fix the frame obliteration. This is among my fave games I've played in the PS3. I love playing this game and will endure the frame rates, however i seriously hope they patch it. I've heard it has frame issues across the other platforms as well.
Expect nothing at all. Even on the switch 2, most likely switch 1 games will not run better on performance
I’ve only been hearing that it’s been only a switch problem
I have it on PC and ps5 and it looks beautiful I’ve had no problems really yet
Yea some of the music due to licensing issues, but it’s not the end of the world so it doesn’t really matter much to me at least
40$ sure is a decent price I don’t mind but if you want to wait for a sale go for it either way I don’t want anyone to miss out on this golden gem
Oh nice. I think I'm gonna go with the steam build, that way atleast if I do run into a problem I have the two hour refund window to work with
@@SwitchCorner oh yea absolutely 👍
Nah. The game has issues across all platforms. It's not just a switch only issue.
Not what I've heard. The game has framerate issues and bugs galore on every platform.
From the reddit clips I've seen on pc, Xbox and PS it's running like ass.
It's not that it's unlocked fps is set to 1000. I have the PC version and looked into the usersettings ini and it had it set that way I have a feeling across all builds its set the same. I had to do this way to change graphics and bloom since in options there's only change resolution and window or fullscreen mode. No options for graphics
This game was reconstructed in the Unreal 5. So I'm not surprised that it's running like crap on the Switch. Hell I'm surprised they even did a Switch port at all.
The game is a UE3 engine and the switch can only go at UE4.
@@therealjaystone2344They updated the engine to UE5, not sure what they did here but its definitely not UE3 otherwise it wouldn't be running this poorly
@@therealjaystone2344 If it was actually reconstructed in those earlier versions, the fps wouldn't be bordering on single digits. But no, it's Unreal 5. Just look it up. It's why the spec requirements are so high on PC.
@@therealjaystone2344 the switch has support for ue5
Definitely a side effect of the games engine being UE5. I can personally tell you as a solo dev who uses UE5 the engine does tend to run like crap on not so recent systems. A lot of it is due to the new lighting systems that are in place to take full advantage of Lumen, Nanite tech, and Raytracing. If the claims of sluggish movement are also true then I assume UE5s Enhanced Input control system is at fault (its super buggy at times). All in all UE5 is amazing, but there's not enough hardware around that supports it without issues
Ill still buy it though
I just contacted Nintendo for a refund. They said it should process in 1-2 days. I told them it was unplayable. You can chat or call about the issue
I pirated mine because I fully expected it to be as bad as it is. Yasuda was lying though his teeth the whole time, kept changing his story about the soundtrack.
Suda didn't work on this port, Dragami Games did.@@ocstrangeness
Damn. Loved it on PS3. That's off the list then.
Emulate
Is it really much of a surprise that the Switch still can't, if you truly want handheld gaming start using the Steamdeck!
Hopefully they patch it up.
Was going to pick it up, but now, ill wait for a heavy heavy dscount or a patch.
Sounds like it was a cash in on the Switch players. Seems to be very common these days, Devs cashing in on Switch players to earn a few coin with no intention on fixing or patching the game. There are a few Devs who are guilty of this. Game is so old, no excuse to not run properly.
the game runs awfully on switch. i hope they drop an update that improves the performance.
Like with MK1 huh?
I’ve been playing it on Xbox and haven’t had any issues other than the janky camera angles.
The game does slow down quite a bit on switch, but its similar to how AEW slows down in switch: its very noticable, but yet the game doesnt slow down input so much. At least in my experience, the slowdosn didnt ruin my own pace. Not defending it, but i have seen far worse on switch elsewhere. I also never played the original game, so cannot compare it.
But for anybody curious, this switch port is very much moddable, and that includes restoring the cut music
Yeah I had to get PC version. I hope Switch version gets patched very soon as massive framerate issues along with glitches was just too much :-)
17 fps. How that even got through quality assurance? Game is unplayable. What is finishing nail - is that during frame drops controls are just ignored. It unresponsive and runs bad. And it’s not “little switch” it’s clearly developing problem, cause Witcher 3 and every Crysis game runs solid and nice
On the Steam Deck it gets mid-20's FPS out of the box. Switching to Desktop mode, navigating folders and editing the config file lets you change options such as texture quality, post-processing, etc, to improve performance. Overall, poor porting, and due for a patch.
This is completely unacceptable.. Yes, the switch isn't the most powerful, but it can run frigging crysis, witcher 3, red dead, skyrim and the likes, without any problem. This game isn't even nearly as demanding. They messed it up and should be ashamed. From what i've seen the game got ported into UE5 somehow.. and they just completely botched it.
PC version is less bad but also has issues, and ffs zero graphics options besides resolution.. this is just pure lazyness on behalf of the porting team. Gonna go back to play the emulated ps3 version which looks and runs better.
I played this game on the Xbox Series X. The Switch version looks BAD. I really liked it on XBX, and I do not think I will be playing the Switch version. This looks like the Switch version of the new Mortal Kombat game, compared to the Gen 9 versions.
I paid around $30 for the switch physical through play Asia. And honestly it’s just to tide me over til limited run sends me the collectors set for ps5. I’ll be playing mostly in handheld anyways so hopefully it’s not as noticeable. I still have my ps3 copy too so I luckily have options.
Im glad I didn't double dip. PS5 I've not had any issues after 2 playthroughs. Loading is pretty quick as well. I wanted to double dip. Sucks it's piss poor on switch. Is shadow of the damned doing switch? It will be a PS5 buy either way
You just hated
I skipped the switch version due to not being able to get a physical copy hopefully it will get fixed. I did buy the pc port which runs very nicely. It is not better than the original Not hearing Hey Mickey when you trigger the special just doesn't feel right! i'd rather play my 360 version but I don't regret the purchase, so refreshing to not have the forced wokeness on a "new" release.
Like usual, I'm sure it's just poorly optimized and needs a game update or 2 u.u. Idk why devs feel the need to release these somewhat niche games out in such a buggy state on the switch. Tales of symphonia was even worse and took damn near a year just to get the bug's narrowed down to what was always on the ps3 version lol. edit** Apparently all the different versions of this game are poorly ported. So you aren't even safe on pc.
Lol guys, you play in witcher 3 and rdr in 15 fps, but in LC is no-no!) Just lol.
I understand that optimisation is bad, but even favorite zelda 2 work in 25))
Sounds more like a completely lazy port and a cash grab to me😩 really sad to see this kinda thing becoming the norm in this current day and age👻
To bad I was actually intrigued by this game and was planning to get a copy for my switch..
Appreciate your videos and content a lot ❤
Still if I happen to find this at a major discount I may just get it and see for myself 🤔
Huh... on pc the repop edition has all the blood amd gore. This must be a weird switch thing.... not surprised it runs like crap. Its on the unreal engine.... that engine is not meant for switch... stick to exclusives in switch this console cant keep up anymore
Planning to buy on Steam, play on my Steam Deck. Pretty much the only games I buy on Switch are exclusives, everything I get on Steam.
oh.. wow what.. it looks God awful.. ican't im so disappointed. not buying until patched
I refunded it. Dragami really messed this one up as it apparently is a mess on all platforms. What a shame that I pre-ordered it for OLED and got an unplayable game. Lots of screen tearing and fps going from 25 fps down to 10 fps constantly as I'm tanking damage. Feels like the game will crash at every cutscene. This was 100% on the devs. I'll revisit it in a year when this game is $10 on sale on Switch and has been fixed hopefully. This game will be DOA. Niche decade old title that was $50 and released broken.
On pc playing at a solid 144hz. Game is janky at times but that's also why I love it. It's a shame the switch version was poorly optimized.
unlock choppy framerate, the need to lock it at 30 but noooo. hope the fix it with a patch. and it should not be like these, lets be honest here a comparable game hack and slash small spaces, should be astral chain and that one look better and runs better, they can do me with the port here.
The Switch isn't that bad. The game should at least look and run as well as it did on the Xbox 360.. but it seems it can't even do that.
Thank dude, you are saving my money. I played the PS og and i loved it and was considering buying this remake.
How do you manage to squeeze in playing so many titles and uploading all these videos!! It must be seriously time intensive!! I'm really glad you do though. Always very informative and enjoyable to watch!! 👌🏽👍🏽
Is a good game the only problem was the developer were lazy and cuz of that give a lot of glitches other than that I happy to play on Nintendo switch
well, you can borrow me your copy anytime? 👀
i really want to play this game, but i don't have money to buy! 😅
the controls are awful, why on earth is the heavy attack on B and heavy on X? These 2 buttons are nowhere near each other on Nintendo controllers
Unfortunately I have this game on preorder, so hopefully they improve the performance 🤞🏻
Thank you i was disappointed i could not get the limited run physical order but seeing as its a trash port im happy i didnt waste my money on this
in PC, I played on radeon 660m ryzen 5 6600H is laggy aaaaahhh T.T
I'm hoping the Shadows of the damned remaster doesn't have these sort of issues, ive been looking forward to that one.
That one is being managed by grasshopper, meaning that suda51 is involved, he never disappoints on their games
Sadly ill wait to see if the switch version runs decent, cause i wasted my money on the lollipop remaster for switch, don't blame nintendo players, we like portatil games
Don't like it? Don't buy it. Problem solved.
Yasaudai (Sorry spelled wrong), did comment on twitter (NO I am not calling twitter X, I refuse) about issues as performance issues and bug and framerates too. Working on update patch now and didnt 1:1 take from original since the parameter plugin is NOT compatible with Unreal Engine 5 (the latest engine has higher poly/vertex models etc). Main bugs are:
-Switch Framerates and some clipping because framerates
-Xbox version for some ppl reported the introduction comic panel for characters, for some reason arent in comic style in original mode but still showing the 3D models new panels like if was in RePOP mode?
-PS5/Xbox in auto cannon aim the camera, on some bosses, Juliet gets stuck aim rotation the ground, Chainsaw dash before Killabilly Juilet won't go up the ramp, and on sometimes, Not all, if QTE is set to Auto the QTE won't go through on boss fights leaving u in a softlock.
But Im glad devs like Yasudai is taking time and serious for classic and gaming general for this though and being the goat.
Was there a day 1 patch and was this before or after it? What music was replaced due to licensing issues and is the new music just as good or does it make the experience worse? Why is it so hard to get basic information like this out of videos like this?
I pirated it and can answer: Yes there was a day-1 patch for the switch, v1.1 (v65536). All of the music was replaced. It's horrible, has no edge and feels like something you'd hear in an elevator.
Aw man that sucks was looking forward to try it for the first time
Get the 360 version and emulate
@@BowsettesFury what makes you think he has that option? He’s probably in the same boat as me: I only have a switch.
Same
Runs fine on my rig. All I have is a 4060 and 64gb ram. Basically just a mid range setup
64 gigs of ram? Do you do anything else on your computer? You don’t need that much
I could life without the original music , but not with that framerate.
I dont care for a patch if it not on the cartdrige.
I played it and can not live without the original music, the game is a hollow, empty form of its original self. Mickey's gone, 1-2-3-4 left town 10 years ago. It's like eating a twinkie without the filling. It's like buying a klondike bar and seeing it's half its original size. It's like a roll of what used to be premium toilet paper lasting one day. On top of it, Yasuda lied to us and told us he was able to license most of the original music when in fact he licensed none of it.
Thanks Alex, for an honest review
I got it on Xbox Series S and it runs quite fine. Also got the pre sale of the Japanese Switch cart in order to support devs. I might get it on Steam too in a future sale lol. I loved the game back in the day and I will gladly support anything that pist off wokes and feminists.
nothing about this is game is even anti-woke tho
Playing on Xbox Series & it seems fine so far
I was thrilled about repop until I heard Limited Run got their slimey hands on the physical game. I was stunned that the switch version is as bad as it is considering Doom Eternal runs and looks as good as it does on the switch. This is just devs being lazy
Its bad on the Steam Deck too unless you edit an .INI file
Can’t wait to buy this game on the switch lol
That sucks! Im glad I waited to buy.
As a Switch user i usually put shit on the console for its limited hadrware...but not in this case. This is a ""REMASTERED"" that adds nothing more than the repop mode and ""updated"" visuals. That's it. Also, note that this game has issues on PC and PS5 for most people, while Xbox Series X version seems to be the one which runs better afaik from what i'm reading around.
It should be noted that the game has FAR LESS ISSUES if played in handled, this means it has also better performance than docked.
Do i justify Dragami Games? Nope.
Do i expect a performance patch? Yeah
Did i buy a Limited Edition of this game? Of course 😂
Check YasudaD5 the devs have been working on bugs and performance issues
@@Natrez914 Thanks for the info
It runs bad on PC and Steam Deck too
Perhaps the Switch 2 will save it?
So another unreal engine mess
This is a "morden" game, you got to wait until a few patches in before it's playable.
I still have it on the 360. Why should I buy it again? No one can sell me on it yet. Especially since there shouldn’t be a censored version at all. Feels like I’m buying two games and I will never play one of them.
Especially a digital version for the Switch should NOT be over $15 with out tax.
Seems to run ok on ps5 for me so far
Doom Eternal runs 30fps on Switch.
CASE CLOSED
Id are arguably the best game developers on planet earth but yes, I do get your point
@@millabasset1710 it is possible and probable that id programmed a clean game, but Panic Button did the port.
I would have 0 problem with switch games being locked at 30fps in handheld.
I care more about that smooth playability than having the occasional 50-60. Just not worth it
Even on my decent mid end PC I'll lock at 60fps because the human eye only sees around 60-80 anyway, so i just do high/ultra graphics with lock at 60fps.
Plenty of much more demanding games on the Switch, no reason for this to be so bad. I missed this on the original hardware and was excited, but I think I'll wait for improvements or a massive sale.
damn shame
Bro, since you've played it, it's remastered, although they say it's not censored, it does have censorship, right?... I've seen a video of the beginning for comparison purposes and once Juliet saves her lover in the original version you can see how she leaves the torso of the zombie that attacked him, while in the remastered version you can see a box? 😦
I’m playing on the steam deck. Out the gate, the game is not well optimized, but I found a post on how to update the ini files to fix the fps. Runs much better, but it should be judged on pick up and play and from that angle it is rough to say the least.
And i ordered the lrg physical :/ but i saw gameplay earlier of someone playing on deck and it was pretty rough too if not worse then switch (now the person just downloaded and ran it he looked at the games settings but it was dropping to like 11 fps in cutscenes tho maybe another proton would helpso its seeming like a half hazard remaster
On my PC with a 3070 Ti 8GB the game uses 97% of the GPU, cooking it alive, and for CPU, the i9 12900 uses 25%, so not all that bad there. Runs at around 130fps-143fps. I cannot find graphics settings, cause I don't want to cook my gaming laptop, because it's literally cooking it. Game is FUN AF though, and it looks spectacular, so I'm having a blast. Check my channel later as I'm going to do the First Impressions on PC.
I was prepared to chalk this up to "developer not wanting to develop on Switch and instead prioritizing higher-end platforms, then simply tossing the code into the Switch without proper care" until I saw that it had problems on all platforms.
It's just a bad remaster.
I'm hearing the other console versions aren't doing so well with this port either. I'm playing it on pc and again it's also not safe from being a shoddy port sadly
I’m sure a quick patch can possibly fix things. The frame drops are crazy but it’s fun, I might pick it up for Xbox360.
I love the Switch and Lollipop Chainsaw.
But I ain't shocked by this, which is why I got in on Xbox instead.
From what I've seen, all the ports are having issues. I'm on pc, and it's having some issues.
Wow this is very unfortunate. Was really hoping to replay this game on switch...but at this point im just going to stick my ps3 version and get this on the series x later down the line.
i wanted the physical didnt think it would be hard to find on any console i want it on my smitch though.😢
I enjoyed the first one. It wasn't perfect but fun with a silly pointless story. I wonder if this port is bad on all systems. I'll probably wait for a patch and sale.
I bought the ps5 version from play Asia because I doubted they would put the work in to make it run well in the switch
It runs mostly at 60-40 fps on a overcloced switch but still looks too blurry for me
Fate stay night got patched so there's always a chance this will
