The way Alan Rickman delivers the line "You're amazing. You figured it out already" lives in my head rent free. Impeccable. I aspire to that level of bitchiness.
The sarcasm was DRIPPING, I just couldn’t help but like him
Rickman steals the show in any movie that he is in! :)
It's crazy to think Alan Rickman went from this to playing Snape in Harry Potter. It's sad that he's been gone for 7 years now 😢
I know ☹️ rip Alan Rickman
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I liked him in CBGB as Hilly Crystal, I loved how it was about the history of Punk music and he played the club owner
My favourite of his was Bottle Shock. What a fun movie, dude
"Yippie ki-yay, mother f***er!" This is so good. Easily one of the greatest action films and one of Bruce Willis' best roles. That tank top in in the Smithsonian for a reason. And it's also Alan Rickman's debut film. Amazing start.
Sophia seeing a brick of C4 and saying "is that coke", gave me a proper chuckle that one.
I COULDN’T SEE FAST ENOUGH
The thing you liked - John not being indestructible - was one of the reasons why the film was such a huge success*. It came out right in the middle of the Arnie vs Stallone years, when enormous muscle-bound superhumans were the action movie standard, so John McClane was like the breath of fresh air in that environment
*(the other reasons are just that it's a perfectly scripted action movie with a charismatic lead and villain)
Merry Christmas and Don't Be Ellis
We sure could use a female version of JM amid all these Mary-Sues today
Merry early Christmas!! 🎄
I'm firmly in the "Die Hard is a Christmas movie" camp, between the fact it's set at Christmas, all the jingle bells that have been worked into the score, and the protagonist learning to appreciate his family, it hits pretty much every requirement. Hell, the film is basically an adult version of Home Alone, which is proof enough of this fact in my eyes (though this film came first, so technically Home Alone is the kids' version of Die Hard, but I digress)
"Can I get more of Alan Rickman on the screen, please" me whenever I watch any movie with Alan Rickman
0:29 Ba-dum, tss! 🥁 Thanks for reviewing this. Definitely a Christmas movie, but for adults.
Edit: The term "Die Hard" means someone who is absolutely committed to something. A die hard fan, a die hard hobbyist, a die hard adventurer, etc. In this case McCain was a die hard cop, and Gruber was a die hard thief. Kind of cool to see the two of them in their chess match!
Fun fact: the rumor is real. The shocking look on Alan Rickman's face as he was falling was real. They knew he was scared of heights and didn't tell him that he would be falling that far as they wanted to captured the scared looked of Han Gruber as he falling to his death.
They said they would drop him on the count of 3. They dropped him on 2.
YES!!
THIS IS A CHRISTMAS ACTION MOVIE!
Its based on the 1979 novel, Nothing Lasts FOREVER which was a sequel to THE DETECTIVE, which starred Frank Sinatra in a 1968 film adaptation of the same name.
Have you seen 'Speed' (1994) with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock? If not, you simply must check it out. Absolute classic! 🧡
2nd this!
Fun fact: Die Hard is based off a book called "Nothing lasts forever"
Also, RIP Alan Rickman ❤
It astonishes me that there have been so many famous movies that you’ve only watched for the first time on this channel, but at the same time it’s so fun to see your first reactions 😭😭😭
I got to see this in theaters recently! They usually bring it back to theaters for a few days in December, and yes I do consider this a Christmas movie lol. I’ve only seen the first three movies, the second one is also a Christmas movie but it’s kinda mid compared to the first. The third one however, Die Hard with a Vengeance, is really good and it ties directly into the first, also Jeremy Irons is the villain! I’d definitely recommend it. I hope you have a good Christmas Sophia, I love you and your videos!
I hope you have a good Christmas too 🎄🫶🏼
Why do you consider this a Christmas movie?
I only recently watched this film (after cinema therapy covered it in one of their couples therapy episodes (highly recommend)) and as a grown adult with no nostalgia impairing my judgement, my verdict is yes, this is a Christmas movie
"I know what a TV Dinner feels like" Is that because TV Dinners are microwaved? 😂
It's always fascinating, albeit annoying, to hear the post-9/11 generation speculate as to whether a bomb of this size would make a whole building collapse. That question never came up before 2001, that's for sure. And the simple answer is: no, a bomb that size would NOT make a whole building collapse. This is an important reason why bombs rigged by random psychos don't bring buildings down on a daily basis. To put this in perspective, it took a whole jumbojet hitting and exploding in each of the Twin Towers to bring them down, and even then they remained upright for like an hour before collapsing.
Not gonna lie, I kinda laughed when I saw this notification 😂 I know how anti-bare feet you are so I was thinking "oh man I hope the fact that John is barefoot the entire time isn't going to deter her from how iconic this movie is." 😂 Personally I think it was fun he was barefoot the entire time. Kinda added to the I guess bad-ass for lack of a better word for his character and it was also kinda funny. Also this is indeed 100% a Christmas movie! I mean I personally say that if a movie takes place at Christmas then it's a Christmas movie more specifically the majority of the movie takes place at Christmas even if Christmas isn't the main plot point. Merry Christmas Sophia! 🎄
Also on a more serious note, I really wanna take this opportunity to show some love for Bruce Willis who sadly as of lately has what's called Frontotemporal dementia. Thinking of our John McClane during this time.❤
Merry early Christmas!! 🎄
I have said before and will likely say again that one of the best things about Die Hard (1 and 3 at least) is a real sense of vulnerability to John. He can be dirtied up, battered, and bled. Not in the light ways either, he is a mess by the end of these movies. And then there's the factor of being off guard and facing smart opposing masterminds.
It's not like in say.... Commando where Arnie can just load up at a secret weapons cache containing enough firepower for multiple spec ops platoons and mow down dozens of guys (not to say that isn't fun to watch), but with this, you get the very real feeling that at any time, his luck, cunning, skill, or resources could come up short. He's in the wrong place at the right time and flying by the seat of his pants.
Sophia Phan You are one of the most endearing people I know on RUclips🥰
There's two ways to learn to never walk around barefoot: stepping on a thumb tack or watching this movie.
10:00 TV dinners (frozen dinners) back in the day came in a foil container with a foil cover (instead of the plastic used today), ready to be popped in the oven for 30 minutes to thaw it out.
Die Hards 2 and 3 are good, not as good as 1, but good.
Thank you! I assumed this line just needed clarification when she seemed puzzled but I forgot all about it by the end!
Oh yes I’m aware of what TV dinners were like, I just thought it was such a random line 😂
I've never been this early or excited for a reaction. This is a Christmas CLASSIC 🎄
Welcome to the party Sophia!
Die Hard is a staple of the action genre and spawned many a derivative 'Die Hard in/on X' (Die Hard on a plane - Airforce One, DH on a boat - Under Seige, etc)
The sequel is just ok (also Christmas time), but 3 and 4 are on par with the first.
IIRC This was Bruce Willis' first action role. He was mostly more of a comedic actor before which absolutely shines through in this movie cuz he is hilarious.
I thought everyone knew it's illegal for christmas to start until Han Gruber has fallen from the Nakatomi building :-) kerk
I love Die Hard as a Christmas movie. They referenced in one of the What If season 2 episodes, too, since it's a Christmas episode
This is one of the best action movies I ever watched! And yes I consider Die Hard a Christmas movie.
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁🎅🏻
My favorite line in the movie is “Now i have a Machine Gun. Ho! Ho! Ho!”
28:21 2-4 are worth watching, despite increasingly ridiculous odds.
We do not talk about 5.
Before this, Bruce Willis was known more for comedy roles than action roles. If you want to see a tv series starring both Bruce and his full head of hair, check out “Moonlighting”. It seems to have fallen almost entirely out of the cultural memory, but it was a bit of a cult hit way back when.
Die Hard is such a classic ❤️❤️keeps me in suspense every time I watch it and in my opinion it really is a Christmas movie. Bruce Willis performance is amazing here and Alan Rickman will always be a national treasure and he did make a perfect bad guy 😊 I think this movie is epic I love the lines like “Welcome to the Party Pal” and the plot and I’m so happy you’ve watched it Sophia and can’t wait for your next movie reaction 😁😄😉😉
Sophia; you should see "Once upon a time in Hollywood" or others Tarantino movies and then you will know the true concept of feet
LOL I HAVE SEEN IT, AND I HAD THE SAME REACTION
This was Alan Rickman’s first movie role
Best villian I have seen in an action film , Alan Rickman's performance
was epic in this !
RIP .Alan Rickman .
“Wouldn’t the building collapse?” No, this is pre-911…
the best christmas movie
Not a Christmas movie! It is a heist movie that just happens to take place at Christmas time. The fact that it’s Christmas is not essential to the plot. You can’t just throw some Christmas songs and decorations in any action movie and call it a Christmas movie. A Christmas movie needs to have Christmas be essential to the plot, basically a character itself.
Traveling from NYC to California, Officer John McClane finds this song: ruclips.net/video/wYHleFFhlFk/видео.html With this movie, the Action movie genre was changed. John McClane isn't a muscle-bound Rambo clone, is a working class guy like Argyle, has moments of Fear/Doubt/Introspection, takes damage, and is Dead Man Walking by the last quarter of the movie. Is it any wonder that men and women see John McClane as the Everyman Hero? Gene Belcher: "Why is no one singing? Why is no one dancing? Die Hard: The Musical!" ruclips.net/video/luDto63LDlo/видео.html" Movie meme: "It isn't Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building." Yippee Ki-Yay, Sophia.;) On an unrelated subject: Each time a RUclips viewer falls in love with "Firefly," A Fox TV executive falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building.
All five Die Hards are worth watching IF (IF) Action is the priority then Go ahead because thats why i watch them the bigger the explotion the more fighting the more insane it gets the better i feel. Doesnt need to be realistic as why i love independence day, fast and furious, transformers. Just the explotions makes it worth :D :D
"Hansi, bubi!" as a German that line is living rent free in my head.
I love this movie as action is my favorite movie genre. I like a combination of Christmas and action movies. If you like Christmas action movies, I would recommend Violent Night(Its more on the horror genre but theres a lot of action scenes)Great video!
Good thing Snape knew that flying spell and went to England to lay low.
John Mclane takes a kicking and just keeps going! I actually really enjoy this movie series bc its action that is also comedic and cozy kinda? Plus the heart of the move and the real love story being between John and sgt. Powell, their eyes locking across the crowd is just too good ❤️
The actor who played Powell, this was his breakout role and I watched him in an interview tearing up as he described how proud his mom was and how he was able to buy her a house because of this movie 🥹
Omg aw love that for him 🥹
Such a fun one. I think it works so well because John Mclane gets really hurt as opposed to other action movie characters who are almost invincible. It makes it so tense because it feels like he could really die. Great reaction.
Is that coke ? No Sophie sweetie that’s a highly explosive brick
Back when Bruce Willis could act and had charisma, I miss this Bruce Willis
While I am not defending Al's killing of a kid I feel context is important. Today all toy guns are bright colors and at a minimum have an orange piece at the muzzle to show it is a toy. In the 80s toy guns could look exactly like the real thing so until there was a law banning realistic guns many shootings like the one Al described happened. I had a cap gun in the early 80s that looked exactly like a snubnosed 38 special. It even had rotating chambers and everything. His regret for what he did and the fact that he took a bunch of abuse for not being "more of a man" and getting over it speaks a bunch about the character.
An interesting fact I learned from this movie; for Hans' fall to his death, the look of shock was 100% genuine. Originally, they were going to drop Alan Rickman on the count of three, so they let him go at two. 😂
I saw Carl and does this mean Family Matters and Die Hard are in the same Universe? 🤔🤯
Finally a true christmas movie.
it's crazy u know the bad guy actor's name but were confused about Bruse Willis
Love me my Alan Rickman
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3) is the best one besides the first movie.
It’s definitely worth a watch.
Merry Christmas to Sophia Phan
I've only seen the third one(?). The one Sam Jackson in it and it was pretty cool. Jeremy Irons plays the bad guy 👌🏻👌🏻pretty cool
about the sequels, ive been told by my dad that the first and third are the best ones, (and cause of that they’re the only ones i’ve ever watched), the second one is apparently okay but not as good as 1 & 3.
This is a classic christmas movie for sure! Cannot go wrong with alan rickman can you? Hope you had a great christmas ^^
It was iconic
Great movie
this movie is one of my top 10 movies ever, I love this type of action movies. Bruce Willis delivers with his cheesy ass one liners and I love it lol
Merry Christmas 🎄 🥰
Hope you have a great Christmas Sophia.
Got recommended your Kissing Booth reaction today, you looked so baby, the audio and overall quality have definitely improved. It's cool seeing how far you've come
Omg my first video ever, I’m surprised that gets recommended still 😭
@@SophiaPhannn I've gotten recommended videos from over a decade ago, no rhyme or reason to the algorithm. Yesterday, I was watching 10 things I hate about you reactions then I watched some God of War playthrough and suddenly your video came up on my main feed. Random, but a fun trip down memory lane
Home alone and Die Hard are my christmas movies
ahh i saw this recently for the first time also. A local theater near me was doing a showing so i saw it and i think i’m gonna watch the movie every christmas.
You look so good in that orange hair
Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
Bruce Willis once answered that question perfectly: "No, it is not a Christmas movie. It's a Bruce Willis movie!"
Nonetheless, it still plays as a double feature with Lethal Weapon every Christmas in my house.
Thanks for the video!!
See you later!!
Stay safe and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁⛄
Merry early Christmas!! 🎄
Awesome reaction this is one of my favorites also today was my Birthday🎂👍
Happy birthday!!
@@SophiaPhannn Thanks👍
I’ve been meaning to tell you. Since you hate feet so much stay away from Quentin Tarantino films
HAHA I know all about that… although I’ve already seen a few so I’ve always been exposed 😔
Why didn’t this show up in my subscription box 😩 sorry I’m a week late !
So glad RUclips decided to put this on my homepage! You're so much fun!
I love this movie.
Yippee Ki yay
I want to believe that the Cop is also Mr Winslow from Family Matters because they're both characters he played
Unrelated but I keep telling myself to ask- @SophiaPhannn would you tell me what lipstick/lipgloss you use for your videos? The color is SO PRETTY ✨💗
I switch around lip products depending on my eye makeup and my mood haha but the combo I use the most (and what I wear in this video) is Rom&nd Blur Fudge Tint in 04 RADWOOD and Versed Silk Slip Conditioning Tinted Lip Oil in Ruby
I'M BEGGING WATCH TITANIC I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU REACTING TO IT 🥺
Sophia, 2, 3, and 4 are balls to the wall, great, 5 not so much,
11:32 "What's that? Coke?"
Nope.
And definitely don't put this in your nose or, well, in any part of your body.
That's C-4.
Military grade plastic explosive.
The good news is that it's super stable; you cannot detonate it by hitting it, shooting it, zapping it with a taser, or pretty much anything.
You need special detonators to make it go boom.
Luckily, that bag is full of the detonators.
Like, enough detonators for a hundred of those bricks of C-4.
Now, why so many detonators but only 1 brick of C-4?
I think what I heard about the fall was that they told him they were going to drop him on 3, but then dropped him on 2, or something like that
With the Christmas coming up, may I make a recommendation if that's OKay? I recommend Ernest Saves Christmas. I know it's not exactly a horror movie, but it's a Christmas classic. Plus, at one point the characters do visit the filming set of a fictional horror movie. It has Douglas Seale, the same actor who played the Sultan in Aladdin, as one of the best movie Santa Clauses ever. Also, it's just really funny and heartwarming. It's got that certain Christmas charm that's perfect for the holiday. It's a perfect way to start the Christmas season.
14:20 "It did that much damage?"
Multiple explosions as John's C-4 care package blew up and that caused the remaining missiles to explode too.
But, it was very little damage. Bright flash and broken glass and not much more.
Think about this BUT NEVER DO IT:
Hold your hand out flat and put a firecracker on your flat palm; Light the fuse. BANG! Your palm might get burned a little, but you'll be OK.
Now get another firecracker but hold it in your closed fist and light the fuse. BANG! Your skin and muscle are ripped open by the blast, your bones are broken and you might lose fingers.
What's the difference?
When you contain the blast (closed fist), the rapidly expanding explosion needs to go THROUGH the container (your hand) which causes massive damage.
When the blast can just expand into empty air (your open palm), it will, and anything nearby is comparatively safe since pretty much all the blast goes the other way.
This explosion in the movie all goes out through the fragile glass windows so it does almost no damage to the walls and absolutely no damage to the structure.
"Wouldn't the building collapse?"
Actually, it's just fine. Just needs a few screen doors...
Seriously though:
in 1993, a bomb much, much, MUCH bigger (1,310 pounds of explosive) was detonated in the World Trade Center.
That gigantic blast blew up a bunch of concrete and knocked out windows of many nearby buildings.
Furthermore, much of the blast was contained inside the concrete structure which made it so the only way the blast could expand was to blow the building apart.
As for the building's structure, it was fine. One structural beam was damaged and had to be replaced.
The repairs were completed in 20 days and the building was back in business like nothing had happened.
Compared to this explosion?
1.25 pounds of C-4 and a half dozen rockets, with 98% of the explosion going out the windows?
Well, if that giant bomb couldn't bring down one of the heaviest, most massive buildings ever built, then this comparatively tiny explosion here never had a chance to hurt this building.
Lol I watched Die hard yesterday 😂
What a coincidence
Sophia, you've got to watch Con Air!
Oh, and Ellis didn't tell Hans that McClane was his guest, without mentioning Holly, because he (Ellis) was relatively non-loathsome. He did it to appear more important himself to Hans. Good call.
The second film is ok, third one is terrific, fourth and fifth you can skip.
The 4th is fun and worth the watch for Timothy Olyphant.
Sophia gives zero fs about men not named Alan Rickman.
Can you please do Legally Blonde it’s so good!!!!
Sophia if you want a christmas movie, you can watch Gremlins (1984)
Sophia, did you watch this because it's a christmas movie or because you are getting into action movies?
if you want an action movie, you can watch the first live action He man movie, Masters of the Universe (1987) He man is a action figure from Mattel the same company that makes Barbie, they had a cartoon movie in 1985 , the Secret of the Sword , that is more like the cartoon from 1983, He man and the Masters of the Universe, the 1987 live action movie has less in common with the cartoon and they tried to make it accurate ,but fell a little short, but people like it now as a cult classic.
Can’t wait for Sophia to watch my other favorite Christmas movie: Iron Man 3
James Bond fan here. The blond haired guy with glasses, Andreas Wisniewski was in James Bond film called The Living Daylights (1987). The actor at 21:25, Robert Davi would play Bond villain Franz Sanchez in License To Kill (1989). Also, a Bond film that has a Christmas theme is On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969). Happy Holidays to all of you.
The first four Die Hard films are great. The fifth film is where they drop the ball.
If you think Akan Rickman was campy in this, you need to see "Robin Hood: Prince of thieves".😂
I have carefully considered all of your advice and clear expertise in terrorist/armed robbery situations, and I have deduced that you would have been dead 45 minutes before Hans and his goons got there.
You slipped on a spilled cocktail.
If a 13 year old pulled a gun on you and as far as you could see was them about to shoot you, you would not have the attitude you have right now.
If you like Die Hard got to checkout Violent Night. It’s Die Hard meets Home Alone with a touch of John Wick action with Santa Claus as the main character.
Your hair 😮😍
This is without a doubt a Christmas movie. We got a Run DMC Christmas song out if the deal.
Die Hard 2 is shit, if you ever watch 3 though (one of the best), pay attention to Bruce's face when hes going around corners while holding a gun
Awesome reaction of my favorite Die Hard movie!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Glad you liked the movie! Of the sequels the 2nd and 3rd movie are worth a watch, I didn't care much for the 4th one and never saw the 5th because it looks so bad ^^ Die hard 2 and With a Vengeance are great though, and 2 is set at christmas again.
