This is the New Largest Radio Galaxy (Alcyoneus) [4K]

- What is the largest galaxy? For a long time, the largest has been IC 1101, around 4 million light years in diameter. But in recent weeks, there has been talk of a new, even larger galaxy, Alcyoneus, which is said to be more than 16 million light years in diameter! But is that what's really being proposed in the original paper detailing the discovery? Not exactly, because Alcyoneus is a Radio Galaxy. But what is a radio galaxy, and if Alcyoneus is not the largest galaxy, then how large really is it?

Wow, ur gorgeous! 😲
PLEASE DO NOT STOP MAKING CONTENT… So interesting and thought provoking

I thought you said “PLEASE DO STOP MAKING CONTENT”
i love this channel, because he actually knows what he is talking about and doesn't make videos for 3 year olds for the wow factor. he doesn't click bait and ive been watching him since his gaming days🙂. very nice to see how far he has come and i like seeing this channel grow.

Well said!
You are my favorite channel, hands down. Please never stop.
You betcha! 🙂
@@sea_space thank you. I look forward to every video you post ☺️
You definitely have the best astronomy videos on RUclips. Hands down.
Do you seen channel However?

Nope. Might have to look it up.
@@michalstawicki1451
Will have to look into it! Also love Chuck’s Astrophotography!
Dr Becky and Anton Petrov are also pretty good
This is my favorite astrophysics RUclips channel, hands down. I don’t use this channel to fall asleep because it’s so well done. Thank you for all you do!
I've recently realised that watching and listening to videos about space, physics, dimensions and everything in between, are very reliable ways to get me to go to sleep.
I've always had problems with sleep, as it's probably something to do with my mind being very active until the early hours of the morning (up until around 12am - 3am). These videos are so fascinating, because it's all speculation and theories about things that are so mind blowingly grand and complex for the human brain to comprehend. I end up getting completely lost in thought and start dreaming, which then eventually I fall asleep.
If you drink tea or especially coffee, refrain from drinking after 3pm and you should find that your sleep improves drastically. If you don't consume caffeine........ Keep watching space videos
@@garethwillis Saying that, it's 100% caffeine!
Please try also the French whisperer’s channel. He does exceptional space ASMR designed for that.
@@snortypig596 - I just tried his channel and couldn’t do more than 5 seconds. I have misophonia and low volume sounds - like the soundtrack of Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln attraction at Disneyland - immediately causes me rage. Now I’ve just given any potential kidnappers and easy way to torture me 😂
I have the same issue . Sleepy all day and at midnight i am hyperactive till the morning. Those videos are helping me indeed
Thank you again for another amazingly put together video. Still have no idea how you don’t have millions of subs yet.
500K on the horizon soon though!
@@sea_space you absolutely deserve it dude!
@@sea_space yeah it takes some time but you'll have millions eventually. These videos are awesome.
Too much background info, that's why... I've waited for almost 15 min before finally getting to the central topic. I have to faforward and search.
@@tomfieselmann5906 You can, not watch?
I really appreciate you taking the time to say "if, but, perhaps" and willing to speculate on other possibilities rather than just stating the current narrative.

@@Pugetwitch My goal is to spread the wisdom of God that’s why that comment is there. Are you an atheist?
@@connorlancaster7541
You people are nicer when God isn't the topic of every conversation. /:
@@2dheethbar I think someone can be nice while talking to someone about God if they are humble.
@@connorlancaster7541 But do you talk about God for attention and reactions? Or are your intentions justified? Because comments on the net are generally made with the sole purpose of getting responses, even simple harmless things such as compliments or advice. Otherwise, most comments wouldn't be made. That's not what spreading the word of God is about.
In perfect SEA fashion, I fell asleep twice in the first five minutes and was only finally able to watch the video in its entirety when I woke up in the morning.
The part on synchrotron radiation was particularly interesting. I think a video that explored all ways to produce and observe light, both natural and unnatural, would be interesting.
You know what the problem with your comment is, and I know you meant it as a complement, but somebody curious about the video may read your first few words and get the wrong idea as you said you fell asleep twice. The danger with that wording is that to many, saying you fell asleep to something is like saying you were bored with it. Sea himself has brought this up on occasion.
@@robr135 I mean isn't that something he should fix, or accept, if he's aware of it?
I've never seen a video but from the title and content it seems like this is a pretty academic channel
However, it might not be a good fit for RUclips, or video format. If it puts people to sleep, that might be a positive feature that people seek out that makes it suitable. But YT and video in general are for rapid dissemination of information outside of such niche applications.
Basically, no reason to complain. people watch for their own reasons. If the creator wants that to change, they will change the content
I'm watching on 2x speed and it's very slow paced so far
@@seeker296 Master of the Internet comment. Wonder how many of us do that(2x)?
@@seeker296 His videos being laid back with his lecture is the whole point. Speeding through it because you're impatient is just ruining the experience to me. Yes, if you're watching late at night, you will likely fall asleep. And that is okay because you'll likely rewatch later.
If you don't like slower paced videos because you're used to instant gratification and instant funny from fast paced Tik Tok videos, that's fine. But not everyone prefers that though.
This is the most pretentiously pointless gatekeeping thread of comments I have ever seen. As a viewer, one of the millions that watch SEA or any content creators videos, it is in no way shape or form a duty or obligation of that viewer to persuade or dissuade another individual to watch or not for any reason. There’s 10 hour loops of Bee Movie clips, 5 second shorts of meme degeneracy, 2 hour long interviews, 10 minute tutorials. RUclips is quite literally whatever YOU need it to be. Go outside and touch some grass you cornballs.
I just cannot believe how small we really are.
are you under 6 foot?
More like, from another video, I can't believe how small we "all" came from.
A few days late, but I love your vids so much. I applaud you on making videos on space topics that aren’t as well known. Everyone knows about stars and black holes, but not everyone knows about stuff like this! Bravo!
As a former gd fan of yours who is mainly passionate for space,,Your channel has to be one of my favorite creative transformations ever. These videos are truly some of the best mini documentaries of space phenomenon on the internet. Thank you, SEA1997!

Just wanted to say thank you for posting these videos, I have found your sleep playlist amazing. I'd wake up in the middle of the night, learn a bit about Venus then fall back to sleep :)
I have devoured your content! Love the effort you put in and your delivery. Being soothed while learning. Wonderful!

Trying to comprehend the scale of these galaxy beasts truly hurts my brain every single time.
Once again a fantastically narrated video. I always get lost in your visuals.
Btw it sucks that I can't edit Super Thanks messages on mobile.
Nothing, NOTHING beats seeing a new SEA video posted!!!!
It would if he posted 2.
What would the rest of the universe look like if you were, say, halfway towards the galactic center of Alcyoneus looking out? Would the gravitational pull of so many massive bodies packed in so (relatively) close together completely distort the view of the cosmos (ie. gravitational lensing)?
That’s a great question, one I’ve never thought about. I hope someone with real knowledge replies so we can both find out.
Interesting question, but even here in the milky way, we can't see through our galactic disk. So you don't have to go to Alcenonious to answer that question. T
The part of the observable universe that is in-line with the milky way is known as "the zone of avoidance".

I really appreciate the analogy you make of galaxies being cities.
Many astronomers have made the same analogy, nothing new there. You (and the rest of us) currently reside in a "quiet suburb" of our galactic city or so I'm constantly told.
You have become my favorite channel. Almost all of my YT downloads section is your videos lol.

@@sea_space I believe it sir. I didn't know it was a one-man-army. Even more impressive!
Knowing this and the quality of these videos you sir deserve twice as many subs, too bad people are more interested in who slapped who at the Oscar’s than the mysteries of the universe.

When I first started working on giant radio galaxies a few yrs back, I never imagined them to be popular enough to be viewed 😅so much on youtube. Great efforts by SEA.
I will sleep so much better tonight! Thanks, Sea!
In these troubled times, I cannot thank you enough for making these videos available for free and so easily to everyday people like me. The thought of this mind-boggingly vast Universe, brimming with unthinkably complex objects that our human brains can’t even comprehend, far out of reach and forever unfazed by humanity’s madness, brings me a deep sense of peace and perspective that I desperately need to put up with the dreadful experience that is life on this lonely, angry, tiny little rock.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for doing what you do. It is impactful.
Theres nothing to add to your comment^^ Well said.

Hi SEA. Thanks for this. U are a live saver
