These cosmic catastrophes come in many varieties, characterised by their elements and light. Today, we will cover the various types of supernova as we take a deep dive into these tremendous explosions.

So, my dad passed away when I was 4 years old. As a result of this, i've obviously inherited some items. One of which is made of gold. It was his wedding ring when he married my mum.
I've just reached the end of the video and heard what you said about gold and silver, making me properly look at the ring i'm wearing for the first time in a long while.
I'm really, really glad I watched this video in particular. Supernovae are one of my favourite subjects, but intertwining it in that way hit different tonight.

I’m a writer and film editor, I’m currently working on a sci-fi that is supposed to be very grounded in science. It would be much more difficult to learn about this kind of subject without this miracle of a channel. Thank you so much for the work you do and the incredible effort you put into every video.
You’d think people who write films “very grounded in science” would hire a person knowledgeable about the field instead of learning dumbed down versions of very complex subjects.
@@Gushing69Granny but when you're making a movie meant to appeal to the masses, you always need to simplify the science somewhat. Not everyone has a B.Sc.
@@Gushing69Granny the essence of many topics are well encapsulated by this channel. It's not mathematically rigorous, but that level of granularity isn't necessary for non-instructional films. Making things somewhat realistic and scientifically plausible does not require such depth of understanding. He's expressing his appreciation of this channel's accessible distillation of complex phenomena, the details of which are arcane and ultimately incredibly mathematically complex. Let him live 🤷🏽♂️

I once heard space being described as "violent", and it has stuck with me ever since. It's humbling how delicate (known) life is, and the very specific conditions required for it to not only exist, but continue to flourish.
Even the most hardy and adaptive of species are like a little snowflake in the grand scheme of cosmic conditions. We can't even leave our planet without carefully engineered tech without dying. Hell, you can even die falling out of bed!
Sometimes I try to imagine what it would be like if I somehow fell into something like the sun, or a supernova, or a black hole. What would I see or hear? What torture it would be to be under such pressures and speeds.
The closest I can imagine is broken ragdoll physics in a game, when a dead body gets stuck in the ground but its head or arm or whatever gets stretched to the other side of the map, and the whole thing is angrily vibrating trying to cope with the glitched collision. Then suddenly it gets yeeted out to the sky at the speed of sound, never to be seen again.

This has to be the most underrated channel on youtube.
To me you're David Attenborough of Space. I play these at 0.75 speed to prolong the enjoyment, which also increases the DA effect. Also the slwer pacing helps my thick brain to digest the info.

This was a fantastic video. As a suggestion for a future video, I think it'd be fascinating if you devoted an entire episode to the cosmic origins of the elements. In other words, which elements were created in the Big Bang, which are created during a star's Red Giant phase, which are created by supernovas, etc. There are a couple of lectures on this topic on RUclips, but it's such an interesting subject and it would benefit from your storytelling and production polish.

I always assumed the original version of "Woodstock" was the one by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Came to learn about supernovae and also got pro-tipped on music 😂

Great video. Should be a part 2 though explaining electron capture supernovae and pair instability (the latter dives more into hypothetical territory but I’m all for it)

I just like the form of your presentation: you are calm and relaxing, occasionally perhaps a little bit sensational, but due to the matter explained, it has to be. I'm dying to know where SEA gets his graphics from. Does he make them? Does he have a team? Or does he use an animation software?
I use I program named "Space Engine" which is a virtual universe simulator game available on steam. That's where I make the space graphics. Stock footage and the like comes from free stock footage websites and public domain footage from NASA and the ESA!
Words alone are not enough to express my love for this channel! Please continue what you are doing as you feed my brain with fascinating and incredible knowledge that i love and cherish dearly! We are all but dust !

To be fair to Joni Mitchell, I think she knew it wasn’t just a cliche right? Pretty sure they knew about supernovae and atom formation in the 60’s
Stardust is quite poetic. Maybe that's why lyrics describing us as cosmic litter or thermonuclear waste, though just as accurate, never hit the charts.
