I'm in the minority that actually loves the Bassballs cocked wah sounding distortion.
I got one of the sovtek bassballs from the 90s...absolutely savage.
I've got the Q-Tron [Big Box] for 15 years and it’s a classic! It's the warmest sounding envelope filter you can buy at affordable price. No wonder why. It’s Mike Beigel [creator of the Mu-Tron] baby. The effect has been used by Flea for over 20 years. Flea’s bass tech said he is constantly checking all envelope-filters that come out, and none sounds as warm as the old Q-Tron.

Wow 😳 I just looked up some used mutrons didn’t realize it was that much more than Qtron . I’ve had my Mutron at least 15 years it’s a keeper . For the price the Qtron is keeper too . Thanks 😊 I did not know

What kind of power supply do I need for the Q tron?
I love hearing a German admit they are an equipment snob in their German accent - it's so funny given their reputation for precision engineering. I love the humans. Great video and channel.
Have you looked at the EHX Talking Machine? It has a BassBalls mode, auto-filter mode, and vocal formant modes (like an automated Talk Box). The filter modes can even have their envelopes reversed to sound more synth-like. It includes Fuzz/distortion where you can control the amount of gain and tone. The filter sweep and vocal formants can also be controlled with an expression pedal. It can also do LFO effects where you control the rate and shape of the wave (e.g. triangle, sawtooth).
I watch a lot of gear videos and this was one of the best! Great pacing, playing and editing. These all sound cool! Cheers!

I own a Electro Harmonix Enigma Q Balls that's pretty cool
Overall great video! Two things I noticed though:
1, there is a bass-specific version of the Riddle. It's called the Enigma. I have one, and I like it, though I'm having trouble really dialing in the settings.
2, Did you mention that the Bassballs is not just one filter, but is actually two filters sweeping in opposite directions? That's what gives it the unique sound.
I love the enigma q balls it took a few months of playing to get usable sounds.
The Enigma is the bass version of the Riddle and is my favourite effect.
I love my Q-tron+. Effect loop is neat for using with a fuzz.
I don't know man, Bass Balls with octaver sounds thick, I dig it!

Funk Machine pedal. I use to run my fingers across all four strings, to create this bubbly sound that got thicker to create thunder. great bass pedal.
Another great video! 👍.I love the old Big-box original and Mini Q-Trons. They're great filters. My other recommendations for obscure, extreme, but great sounding envelope filters would be the Chunk Systems 00Funk Mkii, Octavius Squeezer and Frostwave Funk-a-Duck

There's a "big brother" Qtron at my local shop in pretty beat up but working condition for like $125, is that reasonable? Not sure if I should just spend an extra 50-75 bucks and get something modern and really really flexible or go classic
I heard of the Zipper but this is the first time I actual heard it played. To my ears it sounds like a combination of the QTron and BassBalls.
I know it’s not EHX but Fenders Pour Over Filter is a criminally underrated pedal for bass.

Gregor, you need to get the EHX Enigma QBalls! It’s bass-specific and designed by Mike Beigel (Mr Mu-Tron).
You can adjust 2 trim pots in the bassballs to get more of a classic envelope sound or go full 'robot rock'

I have built a modded bassballs for myself according to the instructions from Mark Hammer in the effects layouts blogspot.
The mods certainly add some tonal versatility. Since the bassballs is essentially two filters in parallel , I have moved the internal trim pots that configure the high and low filter to panel-mount . While at it I put a blend control for the two filters and a decay knob. This way you can get a lot more sounds that could not be achievable with just the stock version !
Mr Black's Fwonkbeta (Purple Funk Generator) is killer too !!!
It does sound great however I have problems with it clipping when pushed hard with hot signals

I have the old school, big Qtron+! It’s bloody huge and requires its own separate 24volt power supply so it’s not been on my board for ages. I used it in a cover of RHCP the power of equality - it’s on my channel if you want to check it out! 😁

Ich hatte mal einen 3Leaf Wonderlove. Eigentlich ein sehr geiler Filter für den ich aber nie richtig Verwendung hatte. Dann kamen diese fürchterlich geilen Pedale von Darkglass für die ich leider Verwendung hatte... 😅

I just got my hand on the Riddle Q-Balls for guitar (and am using it with guitar). I spent about an hour fooling with the controls, found some ok sounds but nothing that completely grabbed me - if you get what I mean. Any thoughts on some good settings for the Riddle (used with a guitar)? I also have a SolidGoldFX Supa Funk on hand, which can also produce some very nice tones, but clearly doesn't have the depth and versatility of the Riddle.

At 1.50 super super fancy tracks & envelope sounds !! In 2020 for me the best choices are SourceAudio Intelligent Filter and 3leaf proton. A good envelope is good when the down envelope sound right ;)

I picked up a Q Tron Big Brother. Effing LOVE IT! Better than my MU-FX microtron III ..... like way better!....with an active stingray classic that is.
So my issue is this.....it requires a 12 volt and will not fit in my daisy chain connected to a One Spot Powerall...is there any way to fit it in my pedal board without having two power supplies? The plug on my daisy chain is larger than the 12 volt plug on the pedal. Help me Gregor!
I wish there was a 12V battery for these sort of things, but to my knowledge these only exist in 9V. I guess I’m out of ideas… you’ll probably have to use a second power supply

Hey, love your videos! I was hoping to see the Enigma Qballs, I have owned it and feel it is a monster filter. All though difficult to controll when it comes to output power....
The Dr. Q sounds a lot like the Digitech Bass Synth Wah filter sound. Which is to say, not great.
I the same way with the envelopes i buy the first one in 96 the clasic Dod ,still have it,and the most "actual" is the Source audio the one with only one footswitch i think its one of the best you can do everything with this envelope sometimes i never turn it off the thing with the EHX its that they are a little bit "not in your face" kinda envelopes i try a lot and got for some time the micro qtron but it was very unstable i dont know its a matter o tastes i think
Try the Blurst it has keyboard and pick attack modes plus actual attack etc

Hallo Gregor, thanks for the video. The Q-Tron effect sounds very different at 1:50 and at 2:30 but as far as I can see the settings/dials remain the same. How is that? How do you get the staccato sound at 1:50?
he plays a bit harder staccato, that's all the difference
