Most true art is not recognized for its bravery and great beauty for decades, if not longer. Audiences and critics are not ready for what they cannot see, nor allow themselves to feel, until a different era makes it 'safe' for them to do so. But, then, once again, they cannot see nor feel the art that arises in that era, too. It is never easy to live with the art that lives within you. It will always go against the grain. Not because it seeks to do so, but because that is its nature. And it is the artist who pays. 'Sacrificed' to the living dead of his or her time.
I'm aware that there are more acclaimed movies with equally big stars but this is my favorite western of all time.brando, malden and the ill fated and beautiful pina pellicer give unforgettable performances.
I'm a giant western fan and this is one of my favorites. - and I saw it for the first time last week. All these years I've been hearing all these horror stories about this and Brando as director. Bunch of crap. This is an amazing Western drama with fabulous shots and photography. Even more impressive for Brando as a first time director.
First time I've seen this. I lived and worked in Hollywood for many years. I wonder what planet I was really on . . . A masterpiece is a masterpiece is a masterpiece. The year is irrelevant.
A masterpiece it surely is. At every dimension. Marlon Brandos first and last attempt at directing. Then he didn't direct anymore. .....thanks for the great film. And i am not a cowboy movie type
I love this movie so much. I watched it on whim a year or so ago when I was bored not really expecting to get much out of it. However, I think about it all the time so I've come back for more. Believe it or not, I'm just getting familiarized with Brando, I used to think that DeNiro was the best Hollywood actor, after watching brando so far in only one film (Im just watching this one), Last Tango in Paris, I realized that he had something especial, something thats impossible to replicate and its very hard to describe...

Brando sat down with Johnson and Pickens, and had them salt up the dialogue with stuff from their days on the rodeo circuit. "Where'd you find the crowbait?" It's all on the Criterion discs; best way to see this.
Never watch westerns normally but this is a good one. All the more interesting is how much the camera loves Brando, despite being short and stocky with a thin, high nasally voice he still manages to command everything. Thanks for the upload.
Love this western its different. For me its very under rated. The action, build up and characters including another of my favourite western actors namely Ben Johnson. For "Cowboy" movie fans this one ought to be a must see.

The best western movie I’ve ever seen, better than movies made now! How come they made great movies in the 60ies and now they suck at it?! For one thing we dont have actors like Marlon Brando anymore.
Marlon ate 2 bananas in the opening scene. He balanced them on the scale. He was declaring, silently, that he was the 1st banana(Director), and the 2nd banana(Supporting Actor). He was supporting his fellow actors. That's why this film is a masterpiece.

I'm aware that there are more acclaimed movies with equally big stars but this is my favorite western of all time.brando, malden and the ill fated and beautiful pina pellicer give unforgettable performances.
watching for the third time in three years. Also my favorite!!
Great old classic movie for ever made !!! I found this film quite remarkable on many levels !!
Anybody else here because this is Terry Gilliam's all time #1 favorite movie?
yup
Yes.
Yip! Funny that. I have this often. On the Joe Rogan show, many people do this and say 'Joe Rogan sent me here.' So, Terry Gilliam sent me here...
Yepperdepep!!!

"I wouldn't want to lose me a handful of brains trying to find out." hahaha. I love that line.
Pina Pellicer is the star!
1:02:43 - 1:04:48 - Rarely a movie scene where the love of a woman seemed so sincere and touching. Pina Pellicer was a great actress
Marlon said she was the worst actress he casted. Kt took about 30 shots to try get a reaction outta her 😂😂😂
First time I've seen this.
25:30 Miriam Colon was born in Puerto Rico but she played mostly Mexican roles. She passed away a year or two ago. What a gal! Que mujer!
This is a master piece... Brando and all the actors.. Amazing..
you always know it's an vintage western when the opening music blasts you out of your seat!
Classic western! Brando at his best, loved this movie
thanks for this i seen this movie many times on french tv ,Marlon is incredible !! for sure a legendary actor ,so smooth with womans this guy ...
Critics were hard on this film when it first came out...but it has stood the test of time.
Brando also directed it .
I love this movie so much. I watched it on whim a year or so ago when I was bored not really expecting to get much out of it. However, I think about it all the time so I've come back for more. Brando could have been a wonderful director in the future after this movie if they had have shown more faith.
Classic Marlon, as cool as can be, with that look, excellent western...
Glad you showed the last 40 min. of this version.
The music was ... To much. Lol
Great flick tho
This a great display of fine acting all they way around!
Awesome. Brando did a great job. Great acting alround, especially from Marlon, Karl Malden and Katy Jurado. Ben Johnson is also great as Bob Emery.
Absolutely Yes Edmund Fendel
...and Slim Pickens as a >> villain
Should also give Pina Pellicer a mention. Beautiful moving performance. The scenes with her and Brando by the sea were very touching.
Magnificent by everyone involved. Who knew that Brando
was such a Romantic - that final shot .? Perfection !
See sayonara, is another great film too
I have watched this a 100 times still afresh. Brandi was not only an actor but great director too.
Thank U.Rented from library few years back,to me,in top 10 westerns of all time!
One of the Best Western movies ever !!!
#1 Tombstone..#2 One Eyed Jacks..#3 The Good the Bad and the Ugly..#4 True Grit..#5 Jose Wales...

"Git on up you tub of guts." Great movie. Powerful story-telling.
Brando sat down with Johnson and Pickens, and had them salt up the dialogue with stuff from their days on the rodeo circuit. "Where'd you find the crowbait?" It's all on the Criterion discs; best way to see this.

Superlative film making and acting..... outstanding in every way
Pina Pellicer, talented & lovely actress. Sad to lose her at a young age.
She was beautiful and played the part so well..
Thanks for a different kind of well made western movie, with a genius of an actor MARLON BRANDO.
Brando............What a Handsome guy..............
The GREAT Marlon Brando!!!!! A true legend!!!!! We will never forget you!!!!! Such a great man, singer and actor... 👍👍👍👍👍
So incredibly a man, a real man.... sigh....
great characterization!....all held together with the power of Marlon Brando.
Beautiful movie....Brando is terrific as is the rest of the cast.....so good... the cinematography is splendid The Mexican motif is lovely. Thanks!
Brando directed this. Quite a good film. Pina Pellicer is simply brilliant. I actually cried at the end, and I have a heart of stone.
I was spellbound. Terrific terrific terrific movie. Must watch
Great movie, Great Actors, Great Actresses! PRICELESS!
Thanks!
Never watch westerns normally but this is a good one. All the more interesting is how much the camera loves Brando, despite being short and stocky with a thin, high nasally voice he still manages to command everything. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks for watching! 🤠👍
Love this western its different. For me its very under rated. The action, build up and characters including another of my favourite western actors namely Ben Johnson. For "Cowboy" movie fans this one ought to be a must see.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE ALL TIME MOVIE A TRUE MASTERPIECE ..FAVORITE ACTOR THE AWESOME MARLON BRANDO.
Awesome to hear you enjoyed it!
this movie is some of Brando's best work....I love it!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for tuning in! 👌🎬
Now in my fourth watch loving it. What a production. I can see way Brando never directed again. It's a lot of work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best westerns ever. Brando is always good!
The physcology of brando is but one factor of many phylasophical geniuses to his approach in acting simply you can not ever say enough about the greatest actor to have set ever scrip a blaze .simply priceless .
Excellent "horsemanship" and cinematgraphy took this"movie" out of the 'spaghetti' western "genera" (s.p.) class
The best western movie I’ve ever seen, better than movies made now! How come they made great movies in the 60ies and now they suck at it?! For one thing we dont have actors like Marlon Brando anymore.
and few Karl Maldens...
Watching from Trinidad.... Third time I'm seeing it🎉😂
This is a great Brando Western. Beautiful music. Martin Scorcese's favorite western.
Vero westren famigliare' tra i migliori mai girati' senza esagerazioni. Marlon magnifico e bravissimo. Indimenticabile
Marlon ate 2 bananas in the opening scene. He balanced them on the scale. He was declaring, silently, that he was the 1st banana(Director), and the 2nd banana(Supporting Actor). He was supporting his fellow actors. That's why this film is a masterpiece.
What a cool anecdote. That might be the most " Brando", story that I've ever read. I'm gonna sound A.A as hell, but, thanks for sharing.
Brilliance of cinema to the highest MOST EXPONENTIAL POWER! Long live BRANDOS GIFTS.
One of the greatest revenge flicks of all time.
💪😉
Wow and Thank you!!! I haven't seen this EPIC CLASSIC in a while.
