    Funilly enough, I have a gizmo and the doorknob daisy wheel twisty thing...I could make this noiselessly too!....you're coming up with the goods tonight young lady! The last three videos will keep my hands busy for a while and my neighbours too. ..maybe if I gave them something I made they might not mind the intermittent noise lol!

      @LilyTree  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you! Brilliant ideas! Using different metals for the twisted wire and the plain is also fabulous. I might just need to put a charm on the next one now!

    • @MichellesHandmadeCreations
      @MichellesHandmadeCreations 7 лет назад

      Thanks. Hope to see other versions if you make some. Last question for now. What is the finished length of this bracelet? I think I have all the same tools you used for twisting and coiling, but my wrist may be bigger than yours (big arthritic joints). I guess I could always add a bit of chain if it's too short. TFS!

    • @LilyTree
      @LilyTree  7 лет назад

      I never thought to measure it! The total length is 8 1/2", with the coil itself 7" long (the length of the mandrel). You could increase the length in a few ways: add on larger (or more) beads; make the hook and loop a little larger, or make a longer coil. To make a longer coil, start with longer lengths of wire, and you can use the same mandrel by taking the coil off, then putting it half way back on the mandrel the opposite way (spare wire end first). You might have to finish the coil manually, though, as the coil will probably just slip around when using the crank. I hope that helps!

    • @MichellesHandmadeCreations

      Yes, that helps! Thanks again for such a quick reply.

    You made 2 colors with copper and oxidised copper. The non oxidised copper will oxiside and you cannot reasonably polish only one of them.
    I would suggest rather using copper and brass.

    I love it! I'm want to make one but I'm a little confused about what you did with the twisted 26 ga wire. I watched that part 3 times. I'm sure I'm having brain freeze or something. LOL! Did you use twisted 26 ga. as a filler inside the coil? Or did it have another purpose? Then you twisted the 18 ga to go through the coil and connect beads on each end? If that's what you did why not use only 18 ga.? I anxious to make this so thanks in advance for the clarification. Yours looks great!! ❤ Happy Holidays! 🎅🎄🎁

      Liver of sulfur is a poorly defined mixture of potassium sulfide, potassium polysulfide, potassium thiosulfate, and likely potassium bisulfide.

    Nice, it's hard to find a good unisex jewelry idea. What are you using for copper? I bought some smaller spools at the hardware store. I doubt that they are coated but I didn't have liver of sulfur so I tried a boiled egg and no matter how long I left it there was no change so I wasn't sure if it's my copper or if it was the egg. Any advise?

    • @LilyTree
      @LilyTree  7 лет назад +3

      Thank you Sherry, I'm glad you like it! I tend to buy my copper at either jewellery suppliers or wire suppliers, both of which helpfully state that it is 'bare' or 'pure'. I haven't tried the egg method (I'm gonna put that on the list to try) but copper does love to oxidise, so I would expect to have had some effect. When I'm not sure if an offcut is coated, I usually use my torch - you can see (and smell) the coating burn off (note: work in a ventilated space!). You could try filing at the side of the copper - I don't know how easy it is to see if you're scraping coating though. The other option is the patience method. Depending on the atmosphere, I would expect that you would see a change in bare copper in 2 weeks to a month (as I said it loves to oxidise! Given that it has done nothing yet, I'm suspecting that it might be coated.

    • @MrAluminox
      @MrAluminox 7 лет назад +2

      If the egg did nothing on the wire that means probably it's varnish coated wire for electric motors. Often these wires are more "red" than bare or jewelry coated wire, and always are annealed (very soft). The test described by Lily-Tree can be done with a good lighter; if coated you'll have the characteristic smell of burnt electric varnish.

    Couldn't you have put the wire in the centre of the coil BEFORE wrapping?? That's what I do anyway. I secure it to the cylinder with scotch tape, then start to wrap the coil, undo to tape when finished and the wire is already in the centre so no feeding it carefully needed? Works for me anyhoo lol

    What diameter mandrel did you coil the wires around? I love your vids.

    • @LilyTree
      @LilyTree  7 лет назад

      Thank you! I believe the mandrel is 3.4mm. It's the larger of the two that come in the Beadalon standard (econo?) coiling gizmo set. But you could use larger or smaller, depending on the look you want. I wanted to measure it properly with my digital callipers, but they've gone nuts and are now just showing random numbers! Note to self: don't buy cheap digital callipers!
