"Hey, sun elves? I think you might be at fault for all these wars"
"HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT? I DECLARE WAR!"
😂- I have not met manny sun elves ..
This is perfect for my current campaign
Not all sun elves lived in Arvyantar like Shantel Othreier nor were responsible for the war, it was mostly the lead clan Vyshaans.
The curse of the elves is the Sun elves.
The drow are actually a by-product of the Crown Wars. The Sun Elves of Aryvandaar were actually the perpetrators of the wars, as their primary house was corrupted by Malkizid (an elven fallen angel)... which is why their House/empire is all but destroyed at the end of the wars.
Its interesting because we always see Lloth and the drow as the big enemy of the elves, and she is dark and evil.... but their hatred was warranted (to a degree), they are the tragic villains of the story. The true villain behind all this has always been Malkizid and the corrupt/demonized sun elves who serve him. He has been manipulating elvish history since its inception.
In fact it was Malkizid meddling that caused the fall of Myth Drannor. Check out the Last Mythal series, very good books I highly recommend.
Well the drow are not that innocent, since Dark Elves before The Descent made the first move starting conflicts with other elven nations, before the Crown Wars even began by the Sun Elves of Aryvandaar. This conflict is named War of the Three Leaves.
The Ilythiiri were certainly cruel imperialists in their own right and it would have made sense for the Crown Wars to be about stopping them, yet it isn't. It is about the imperialistic ambitions of Aryvandaar themselves. Quite ironic all things considered.
The Illithiry went straight to Genocide though, and they were worshipping Vhaerun who isn't any less warmongerish than his dad. Problem was that there were two big egomaniac elven subraces and the poor Wood and Green Elves ended up paying the prize of being in between. People need to be chill like the Moon Elves.
Still, Eilistraee worshipping Kingdoms got caught in the crossfire. Many of her worshippers taken to Underdark and becoming a fringe group as a result.
Not sure if it’s canon, but many Elves were disgusted when Eilistraee Drow set foot on Evermeet even though the rulers allowed it, due to still believing that Drows are responsible for Crown Wars.
@@TheBayzent Wood and green are the same thinG.
Technically, only the dark elves from Ilythiir were bent on conquering Faerun, not all of them. The Miyeritari were followers of Eilistraee and of the Seldarine, and were actually a peaceful, culturally developed nation founded by political refugees from Aryvandaar. Ilythiir initially wanted to avenge Miyeritar, but the summoned demons changed the nature of the war.
Also, the Balor taint in Ilythiir mostly affected the nobles, wizards, pristes and so on, because it was them who dealt with the demon, not the common people. It then trickled down to the rest of the population (after the Descent), but the drow still retain their free will, and the Balor taint doesn't really do anything to condition them in the present days (many examples of that, like the drow who choose to follow Eilistraee not having any kind of "call to evil" or anything along those lines).
Thanks guys. I know I miss a lot so I appreciate your comments adding to these videos. It is very helpful to those people wanting the full perspective. Again Thanks!!
It's true that Ilythiir's power came from High Magic, but they were also influenced by demons. Rulers and nobles made pact with demonic patrons sent to them by the Dark Seldarine (minus Eilistraee, and Selvetarm-who wasn't born yet-), starting with Wendonai, and they corrupted the head of the nation, causing their warmongering to become more vicious and cruel (or so it is written in Lost Empires of Faerun).
Let's not forget that the first kingdom the Illythiris invaded wasn't Aryvandaar but a moon elf kingdom that had nothing to do with what happens to Miyeritar. avenging their brethren was just a convenient excuse.
@@efaristi9737 IIRC, Ilythiir wasn't immediately, physically able to attack Aryvandaar, because the two weren't confining nations. Ilythiir basically carved a path through otehr elven nations ot reach Aryvandaar. At that point, the two empires warred for centuries with no clear winner, until Corellon's curse happened. I mean, yeah, avenging Miyeritar was an excuse, but the Iythiiri did aim to defeat Aryvandaar. Regardless, the overall point was that the sun elves acted just as awful as the drow, and that the drow didn't deserve a sweeping punishment, as tons of them were just common citizens and not monsters or whatever.
@@transient_moonlight That doesn't excuse for attacking Orishaar and involving three others kingdoms into it, who also never had anything to do with Aryvandaar. And we all know they wouldn't have stop at that.
Well, Aryvandaar sure is to blame but not all sun elves, i know at least two other sun elven kingdoms that never supported their plans and even declared war against them.
sure, the Miyeritar dark elves deserved better and shouldn't have been punished. I think that must be a accident, why would Corellon curse worshipper of his daughter that he love and is loyal to him? that doesn't make sense.
The irony after it all is that the Sun Elves started the Crown Wars, committed the largest calamity, was held responsible. Yet after all these millennia the Drow are still cast out and cursed, and the Sun Elves are somehow still the rulers of Evermeet? They are still the favoured children of Corellon and viewed as the finest of elves. Despite being downright eugenic and horribly racist, not that the drow aren't mind you. I just find it weird how similar the ancient enemies are and how different they are treated.
If I understood correctly what happened, basically (the few remaining) sun elves learned the hard way that major shit happens when they act on their violent/bigoted ideas, so now even though they are still convinced they are the superior race, they swallow their pride and welcome different cultures who aren't all about honor, bloodshed and racism and share with them the benefits of their superior high magic
Drows instead have let the trauma take over (which, in their minds, justified their call for help to the balor), and even though they do deserve justice after everything they've been through, they aren't worthy of it, because they would certainly use it to take revenge on every other elf race and make everyone miserable, including themselves
Also let's not forget that Corellon is a god of war
I mean, the Drow ended up summoning literal demons...
The Sun elves don’t rule evermeet the moon elves do
@@fradepalma1861 And?
Marathoning through all of these videos. I've been wanting to become more familiar with The Forgotten Realms for a while - I've been a long time fan of D&D thanks to Critical Role, been meaning to read the Legend of Drizzt books for a while, fell in love with Honor Among Thieves, and then Baldur's Gate 3 just solidified my love for this universe and my desire to know everything about it - and then I found your videos and before I watched them I was worried they'd be that type of video essay that is delivered in a super dry, monotone voice and sounds like a history textbook that makes it hard to follow, but the fact that you're sort of learning along with the audience means that the information we're getting and the way you deliver it is SUPER easy to digest and follow, as well as entertaining and engaging because it feels like you're talking to us on equal level, like you're just a friend or fellow D&D playing explaining this world to another D&D player sitting at the same table. Can't thank you enough for these videos and for the effort you've put in to making them and for helping those of us who want to know more about these amazing universes learn about them.
May your rolls be ever critical successes ❤
Honestly thank you so much for this series. I decided last minute that I didn't want to Homebrew a map and world so I decided to set my campaign in the forgotten realms world. I needed to get a basic understanding of the lore quick and you provided. Keep up the great content! (Sorry this is really late)
Really enjoying this series. Keep em coming!
You should check out the old book Cormanthor: Empire of Elves and Lost Empires of Faerun. Cormanthor really lays out some of the historical tidbits of the Crown Wars (as Cormanthor would later become Myth Drannor) but also how it's founding was part of the end result of the Final Crown Wars, as well as the nearby area called Elven Court (which was the council of all surface elves who decided that the Sun Elves of Vyshaantar Empire, specifically the royal family Aryvandaar were the ones responsible for the Crown Wars.
The Lost Empires book also talks about Mythals and gives mechanics on how they function as Epic spells, and gives a Epic spell seed Mythal.
Lolth used to be called by a different name I also believe, and was cast out of the Selderine, for trying to rule it herself in a coup. Eilistrae and Vhaeraun are Correllon and Lolths children, Lolth was banished from Corellons realm, and wasn't heard off until she came back from the demon web pits. The first Crown Wars started because the sun elves wanted to claim their realm..they said no, this ended badly and the sun elves invaded, since the Dark elves were more about culture and peace, they stood no chance. So the Dark elves of the south Ilythiir, tired praying to Corellon who did nothing, this angered them seeing the god of elves choosing his more favoured type of elves over them Lolth appeared with an offer.they took it and thus the wars began, the Dark elves even warned the sun elves NOT to use there magic to bring in Evermeet for it would be disastrous they didn't listen. The Dark elves also apparently had a lot of sorcerers, which might explain a lot of difference in magic use (whether it can be truly confirmed I don't know but it explains why the Dark elves of Ilythiir was not so hesitant to wage war just a theory) The Dark elves history is a dark and sad one in some accounts, (also Dark elves back then and cured dark elves now have Dark Brown skin, oposed to black or to a dark dark purple skin, and Black hair as opposed to white hair and no red eyes) The Drow are taught they always lived underground, that Lolth created them, that they were the first race (in some cases) and once ruled the surface, a Drow would not believe that they were once good, that they were once allies with the elves. I ranted on a bit sorry but I am really passionate about Dark elven history personally :)
Rant away sir, great information! :D
I enjoyed your informative rant, thanks. I'll listen to anyone talk about dnd or read in this case.
her name was Araushnee.
The more I read about Eilistrae the more I love her.
So in the end the ones who started the wars were the gold elves? Were they manipulated by some force?

@@Jorphdan oh! I thought it was created by vlogbrothers! Make sense that I got that mixed up since the two channels are friends
i'm so glad i tried to research all this stuff first, it would be so easy to dismiss the confusion as lazy research but it's the exact points that are confusing that get focussed on... really appreciate this series like... :D
This video could be also Called" how foul can the elfs get?" Or "Historial accounts of elvish dickery"
that was only Aryvandaard and Illythid, there was at least six others elven kingdoms that never wanted this.
@@efaristi9737 Fair enough, I was just doing a lil elf Joke anyways. So wasn't overly serious when I wrote it, thank you for you're facts. I hope you a good day.
@@adirosstime1774 sorry, i didn't get it was a joke. It's just i heard so often negatives comments from elf haters that don't have any other reasons to hate elves than "they are too perfect".
I mean, you can not like a specie but is it really necessary to take any occasion to spit on them?
@@efaristi9737 I getcha, quite sure most comments are just jokes though. Hard to know a person intent after all, but yeah I'm not an elf hater. I Just find it funny to joke about them, but mostly of warhammer 40k's space elf's, and warhammer fantasy's elves. As they have some very comedic moments due to a situation coming up and matching oddly with their written culture and how they seem themselves compared to other species. (To be fair, I'm also from Sweden, and it's in our blood to joke mess with Norwegians, Danes and the Fins, and em right back at us).
@@adirosstime1774 again, sorry i didn't get it was a joke. It's not very natural for me to make jokes mess at the expense of peoples. I thought it was serious.
This is just what I have been looking for. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this series. I am about to run a 5e Forgotten Realms campaign and this resource is invaluable especially as I haven't run D&D since 1st addition.
+Rowan Hawklan that's awesome! Welcome! And good luck with your game.
I was a Dungeon Master in Forgotten Realms for around 15 years. You RANK me! Your knowledge is superior to me 🤘
You're doing the lord's work! Thank you for making these videos!! Keep it up!
"we're just going to wipe up everything, screw it!" jajaja! I follow all these videos, they're fantastic!
Between the Drakorage Mythal and The Sundering, The elves are kinda despicable
They are arrogant and selfish as fuck in some ways, so yeah, they don't even care a lot about other elven races in their past history.
Yeah, wait until you learn about the King of Shadows, House Dlardrageth and the Eldreth Veluuthra. Faerunian Elves are the embodiment of Neglectful Precursors at best.
Keep it up man! Awesome work!
:D
u make learning abt toril go from homework for my campaign to entertainment im actually into
Thanks, you saved me a ton of reading
Where did the Dwarves come from you ask? Well, when a stone and another stone really love each other....
City? The realm of Miyeritar is roughly the size of modern day Romania. It was huge highly cultured federation inhabited by dark, moon and green elves (not to mention dragons, minotaurs and more). It is worth mentioning that Miyeritar was an Eilistraean country, it was good aligned and largely followed the Seldarine. They were peaceful until invaded by the Aryvandaar and resisted for centuries whilst the Ilythiiri conquered everything en route to Miyeritar in order to drive out the sun elven invaders.
And it ended in a genocide as the sun elves ran out of patience. Corellon was nowhere to be seen, the chaotic good deity had nothing to say as his favourite children massacred an elven nation that was the victim in the conflict.
3:12 what is THAT art?! Which artist!
Probably Dracula
As I understand it, at least back in the days of Ad&D 2nd Edition, Planescape, and Spelljammer - Ao is the Overpower of Realmspace. He created the cosmos within that crystal sphere of the Prime Material Plane. The way it worked back then at least was that Overpowers were omnipotent YHWH style deities, but only within their spheres. Other gods were more limited in power, like the individual deities of most polytheistic pantheons, but had the Outer Planes to play around in and potentially be worshipped across many worlds.
phjordan: where you at? because I'd love to just sit there and talk over coffee, beer, or whatever.

What about the mind flayer/ Abaloth empire?
Just as you said "Spoiler alert: we're going to have another Sundering in the future" RUclips cut to an add about health insurance.
How are you creating the slide show/video? It's very simple but at the same time very effective (and some of the image choices are hilarious!).
I create the videos in Lightworks, which you can import still images. Then using some effect filters I zoom in and move the "camera" around the image.
Free versions, or do you pay? I've been looking for a good video editor like that.
Lightworks is free up to a certain quality (max 720p), but it works well for youtube. Good for new video makers to try stuff without spending an arm and a leg.
You can also use the old windows movie maker
After seeing the newest video on the Obelisks, I think the Forgotten Realms Third Sundering is coming quite soon. Perhaps to-do with more Netherese and all that
well done!

Can someone explain where the aboleth empire fits in the history? i though it predated the rise of the "player character races" is it not cannon for the forgotten realms?
giorgos miras yes
You might also be thinking of Golarion history
NOT a future sundering....try the opposite!!!! Unification... 2 halves merging back into one, especially since they were never destined to separate in the beginning
Is there an explanation why all the elves look different? In particular why do drow look so different?
wasnt the tearfall when asgoroth tried to destroy the world by hurling the moon and meteors towards the land? and it was this incident, which caused utter devastation, that made AO wanna rip the world in two? im only stating what you have said in previous videos, so...
Corellon didn't banthe Darkelves. Elven High Mages from Aryvandaar did so during a ritual.
Thanks for the info! Is this in a novel or do you know where this is mentioned? I'm gathering data for a corrections video in the future. :D
it says so in the "grand history of the realms"
A good important distinction. Corellon mostly laid back with a bowl of popcorn and enjoyed the chaos, mayhem and sheer suffering caused by the conflict. At least that is my take on it, seeing how he literally didn't intervene at any time.
@@Duchess_Van_Hoof imagine watching your children absolutely ravage the prime material plane and not step in when they would need guidance most

Hello Jorphdan, i was wondering, which book did you use as reference for these videos?
I would like to read it, and get to know more about all of the Elf history

check the 3.5 "Lost empires of Faerun" and also the "Evermeet" novel.
Awesome!
( im a moon elf.)
I don't know why, but all this conflicts seam pretty much bias from the other elfs, like, the discrepancies between "the dark elfs are bad" with the fact that each one of the factions made horrible acts seam a little strange, its an interesting hook ponint to explore "the winner always write the books" tipe of thing, imagine the conflicts with that revelation in a party full of elves and drows.
Sorry to sound mean but of the various versions I've heard this is the worst.
Paints the drow (which was a corruption of the word dherrow=traitor) as quickly falling to evil.
My inner dwarf is coming out because this is way too pro elf.
No Avariel?
That's the reason I'm watching, I really hope someone can finally explain their history, as it is pretty interesting (but I don't feel like doing all the research).
They were chilling at mountain tops at this point, they got hit hard during the First Flowering by becoming dragon chew, to the point that it took them to 1370 to stop being considered extinct. I like their caste system and their cultural stuff, but unfortunately they seeemed to have spent most of Faerun's history perched where they live and trying not to get wiped out.
They never participated on anyof the Crow Wars, and by the First they probably didn't even worship, the Seldarine other than Aerdrie Faenya (who is Akadi irl and therefore her being considered part of the Seldarine is more incidental than real)
7:24 anyone else see a similarity to WWI & II?
A beer 😂😂😂
To sun elves - the cause of, and solution to, all Faerun's problems! (Okay, more cause than solution, but...)
wait I'm confused.... I thought the tearfall was when (I forget the name) threw a planetoid at Abeir-Toril...
You are correct! A powerful primordial hurled a planetoid at Abeir-Toril. This was in the conflict between the primoridals and the gods, a "If I can't have it no-one can." This event the Tearfall caused Ao to Sunder the worlds in two. Which is why the Tearfall is linked to the Sundering. Whibbly Wobbly Timey Whimey? I definitely could have phrased it better, learning a lot of this as I go :) Probably need a corrections video in the future.
Doobilado is that a word from Ned Flanders
knowyourmeme.com/memes/doobly-doo
So elves were successful invaders with good press.
so thats what the primordial in gauntlgrym is waiting for......
So if im understanding this correctly, gold and silver elves accidentally (?) destroyed the Illythiri home city, lloth says to them hey i got you, then she attempted to get back at them by creating chaos and hurt the non illythiri, carelon said nope, and then illythiri, were banished? No wonder theyre pissed and hate the surface elves. Makes you think the lore in the homeland is true and Drizzt was wrong. Oh #rasalvatore i think we have a hell of a story.
Who is lord A-O?
The overgod of Abeir and Toril, above all other gods.

OK so I have a couple questions. I thought dwarves were the ones interested in gold and silver, so how can there be gold and silver elves? Also, I know the dark elves technically started The Crown Wars, but what got the good elves fighting? I thought elves were mostly peaceful.
