Although it is true that Popp is not known for being a Lieder singer, I must admit I am really astonished how well she managed to create this special intimate space and atmosphere here- AMAZING!!
The texts are from the cycle of poems of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso (1781-1838), published in 1830, in which the life of a woman from her first love to the death of her husband is traced.
This is a very fine recording, and it provides an interesting opportunity. Schwarzkopf and Popp, both recordings on youtube, are both being accompanied by Geoffrey Parsons---a wonderful accompanist by any standard. But the opportunity here is a true apples to apples comparison between a bona fide German Lieder singer and an opera singer trying to sing Lieder. IMO what Schwarzkopf shows is the chamber music-like intimacy and nuance I find basically missing in Popp, as good as the performance is. Lieder is a different world from the Opera stage.
Lucia Popp is MegaStar soprano along with Anna Moffo, Jessye Norman
Brilliantly ❤

Belleza sin par en la voz de Lucia .Gracias Operazaile.POR SIEMPRE LUCIA POPPOVA.
It takes a mastery of technique, like Schumann, to be master of the artless.
