I'm not sure if it's self care, but it sure helped me a lot in managing stress in the mornings (least favorite time of the day). I set out and prepare everything I can for the first 1.5 hour of my day, the night before. I plan my outfit, i set out a plate/glass/meds/bread/etc, pack my bag, plan my route to school/work. The list goes on.

I think that counts! I know my mornings go better when I do that and that sets a way better tone for the day

Finally someone who talks about the real self care, not finding time for activities which seem to fulfill us/be necessary but in reality they are not that much.. I am reading a book called "why we sleep": it's amazing how crucial sleep is for weelbeing and I highly recommend to read it. Cooking my food is vital for me (got a diet rich in omega 3 fish which has done wonders for my skin) and starting running in lockdown has been amazing, I love it!

Two I focus on: making time for hobbies and limiting social engagements. As a smart person once said, "Saying yes to one request is saying no to everything else". So truly mean it when you say commit to things.

This is something I personally really struggle with , because I'm a very social person. But I'm starting to take more time for myself and allow myself that i can do it tomorrow if necessary. Making time for hobbies is still a thing I need to learn xd

So glad you're talking about self-care as an ongoing practice. People think self-care looks like a bubble bath or trip to the spa, and like, sometimes it can look like that, but most often it looks like doing the things every day that you might not want to do or may feel resistant to, but that are good for you. It's gotta be a practice and a habit.

Also since I see a lot of folks are asking about recipes and food, I would LOVE it if you did more food videos again. I used to get so much inspiration from those, and I miss them!

Thank you so so so much for this video. I’ve been struggling with self care this summer and today I decided to quit my second job so I could focus on my health and well-being. I was struggling with burnout, panic attacks, and being overwhelmed so I really needed to make this change. I’ve been feeling guilty today and this video feels like fate. I really appreciate the insight, advice, and reminders in this video. As always, I love your content and keep up the great work ❤️

Why on earth would anyone give this video a thumbs down? These are all tips that literally ANYONE can use to feel better physically and mentally. The first three are ones that I already do and swear by. The one I struggle with the most is limiting phone usage, especially social media. Yes, you said it right, our smart phones are a blessing and a curse.

Before anything else, let me just mention what you said about baths and painting nails. Even though is very important to have me-moments, the fact that the internet kinda made the Self-Care Movement all about things like that was SO confusing to me some years ago. I was very stressed and I thought I just needed to take some more full body baths and lit more candles... when that wasn't it. It helped a bit, but it's not just about that. So thank you for addressing that.

I live in America and work in finance, so I'm in a world where people don't take their vacation time and they judge those who do. I self-care by strictly adhering to a work/life schedule - no emails or work calls after a certain time (except in emergencies), no unused vacation time, and no feeling guilty about this. It's not always easy, but it's always worth it. Not only do I feel healthier as a human, but my productivity and work relationships are always better when I have this balance.

Absolutely agree with you - self-care is those things we do every day to stay mentally and physically healthy. It differs from pampering. If you don't enjoy stringent exercise, try Pilates. It is very low impact but if done correctly, high intensity. I love it and the best thing about it is that you can feel your own progress in your ability to do the excercises from week to week.

  • @magda23792
    @magda23792 3 года назад

I do most of what you mentions as well. But for my mental health I do a couple of more things. I have a rule that says that I need to do three things each day that makes me happy, and it can be anything, drawing, baking, swimming, sewing, reading and so on.
Plus I need to have on day free, and that is free from everything, not making plans at all and just take my time to relax (learned this from Cathy Hay)
And breathing exercises, I have an app to help me with reminding me of breathing and to guide me through it. It makes a big difference😊

I like the idea that self-care includes following through with things despite being a bit resistant to doing them... The idea of having a routine because you need it to function well even though it can seem tedious and feel unnecessary at the time. The older I get the more I see that spontaneity and following ones whims is overrated! I need sleep, and a good walk every couple of days and to stay home from MOST social gatherings, do some Bible study on a regular basis and tidy my apartment daily. I think COVID has truly helped us understand what it is that makes us feel well...we have all been more in touch with ourselves, having to listen to the needs our normal, fast paced lives have kept muted.

Since I started my job in healthcare, i had to get used to going to bed by 10 pm in order to wakeup remotely like a human being 😂 but now 3 months in my body is getting used to it. I still sleep in on my days off cause i need my sleep.
But i found out that counting out when I have to sleep to get 8 hours was really helpful to wakeup actually rested.
My me time is mostly watching my shows.
Nowadays when I get invited i don't say yes right away anymore, im more like " I'll see what my mood is at that day" so they won't pin me on it. And it has really helped me not feeling obligated to go somewhere when I don't have energy.
