Dang it, Ray! Every time I hear someone say "the door locks" I mentally play that clip from Jurassic Park. Add that to "gravity", "Silveryrado", and a few others. You're getting in my brain!!! (Don't worry, there's apparently plenty of room up there.)
EEGAD, Ray. Where do you get the patience? What a cluster f**k. You are awesome, man. This will be a costly job. Thanks again, Ray for awesome instruction and video.
Have an 2009 F150…knew exactly where the break was! I’ve fixed so many breaks in these flex door passageways! Locks and speakers going out. Mine had a rigid white plastic stiffener along with the wires….they would break at the end of the stiffener. Great design!
Ray, watch you everyday without fail, love the channel. You're one Hella of a Automotive Tech. I learned alot watching you trouble shoot electrical and Automotive issues. You the man 👌
I have installed complete wiring harnesses over the years. And I’ve had to troubleshoot wiring issues. I have had to remove the complete dash to get to some wires. People don’t appreciate what it takes to troubleshoot and repair a wiring problem. You did an excellent job, and whatever you charged wasn’t enough.😁
My previous car, a Saturn S, developed a no low-beams situation. I checked the appropriate fuse, then all the fuses, replaced the bulbs, cleaned the contacts and applied dielectric grease... nothing. I ended up, after an hour and change with a Haynes manual and a voltmeter, finding that there was an open in the fuse block. - I lacked certain tools to make the fix, so I had my mechanic turn the daytime running lights into my low-beams circuit. I gave him a wiring diagram for the fir, including what circuit to eliminate and he added a jumper. Et voila! properly functioning headlights!
I had a 5 year old 85 Dodge Caravan, every year for 6 years with same problem. I had to remove the driver's door each time. It was very frustrating. Wish I had the patience of Ray.
You da maaaan. It is your tricky diagnosis videos I really enjoy. Coming from the dark old days of pre electronic ignitions and all the other new paraphernalia, it is educational to follow your lines of thinking.
OMG Ray, I don’t know how the hell you rummage through all those wires and hardware to figure out what’s wrong and then put it all back together! You’re freaking amazing!
The dealership under warranty added a new wire since the break was in an impossible location. This finally solved the problem. They spent lots on time and parts trying to fix it before adding a new wire.
Good video as always ray Broken wires In the Door jam Sometimes you just have to remove the wires for better access. Good Diag 29:51 @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Ray you are the best mechanic in town and I think the most honest and transparent! Continue your good job and please, continue to mke theses daily videos. I watch you every day. From the French Canadian land of corosion.
I had to do the same door wiring on my 2001 F350 too. I don't understand why for doesn't come up with a better solution to this problem but, I love my Ford truck's. Good job Ray!
I've run into this issue when I used to work for a car audio install shop way back in the 1980s. Kinda makes you wish they had developed transceiver modules that could pass all these signals wirelessly to eliminate this PITA problem! 😮 At least you have wiring diagrams to help. I didn't even have those!
I only had to do one Ford like that, but hundreds of GM's. Cheap thin GM wiring. I cut the door to body boot to split it open, remove it, then make my repairs. Last I reinstall the boot and tape it closed with silicon tape.
Honestly thought you lost your mind pulling all that wire. Figured you wouldn't find a break...but you found multiple. Good job, Ray. Wish I still lived in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.
It's nice when they put a connector at the 'a' pillar, last one i did, (peugeot) i disconnected it and took the door off, sooo much easier. Good diagnosis Ray enjoyed it.
Ray, you should sell pocket screwdrivers on your store, or give them away with orders. Pocket screwdrivers are a mechanics #1 tool, especially with a magnet on one end.
Guys, Ray's ability to read schematics helped him zero in...not hesitating on the dig saved more time. And lastly his physical dexterity and assembly familiarity got him inside fast. What you're seeing here is the best of this kind of skill set.
That can't be how that harness goes. Typically at the factory the doors are off and sent to a subassembly area where everything is put into the door shell. The door goes back on and then the harness is shoved through the hole to be connected to the body harness under the dash. That is how we assembled them at DSM/Mitsubishi in Illinois. Can't believe Ford has an entire harness with no connectors to separate the door from the body.
Im not up on electric stuff but im trying to solve a tpms warning. Think it needs a reset since i rotated the tires. Update: The full sized spare has a sensor and it was 7 lbs under spec. Aired it up and light went off. Learned something new today.
Fluke makes back probe adaptors TP88 that install onto the tip of your existing probes so you can more easily back probe connectors. Fluke also makes TL910 DMM test leads which are more flexible than the stock probes and also have length adjustable probe tips which are good for back probing and also probing module PCB circuits.
RRR, some of the king ranch editions have "rain close mode" option. When the rain detection solenoid/sensor detects rain, it will signal electronics to close any open window and sunroof panel. You showed the control panel for sunroof missing. My '09 was reversed. Everytime I washed the truck the windows went down and sunroof panel OPENED!! Sensor is located in drip panel passenger side by wiper shaft/drain hole.
It's also known as "metal fatigue", first time I've heard it called "work hardening" but it makes sense to me. Nothing worse than the adhesive holding that plastic sheet behind the door panel, it stays wet and sticky for years and gets everywhere lol (it's like putty but stickier). All those grommets, where's "Wallace" when you need him? One of the worst things about working on anything in vehicle panels is they're exceedingly sharp and can cut you by just looking at them let alone getting wrist or elbow deep in the blighters 😆 🤣 😂 Another job well done though, a fine deduction my dear fellow!! 👍
Exactly what happened to my Skoda Yeti too, quite possibly the most awkward splicing job I've ever had to do, but one repaired wire later and all the door controls work again.
I have to do this on my dodge ram. That’s a lot of disconnecting to do. You did it the proper way. Im a shade tree mechanic. Older truck. Im going to have to tru something easier. Great video. This is definitely common issue. Would it have been easier to remove the door? Just asking
I went through the same thing with my Jeep. Power window stopped working. Checked the wiring between the door and the frame. Found a bunch of wires that were damaged. Repaired them. Found out I had speakers in the back doors lol. Fortunately for me, there's a connector for all the door stuff just inside the door. So I disconnected that and then fed that out without having to unplug my speakers, windows, locks, etc.
Sumtimes I gotta rewatch sum of your very informative educational videos to retrain and retain in memory steps and procedures that I would accidentally skip over. I never rush to learn or fix anything so this 59yr old brain doesn't lose its mechanical and electronic faculties
Once again I'm impressed with your troubleshooting and digging out the failed item! If I ever have a major electrical problem I may have to make a trip to your place.
We had a 1984 Jeep Cherokee from 1988 through 1994, and experienced similar broken wire in the harness going to the rear hatchback. I remember soldering-in new pieces of wire to fix that.
Had the same issue with the rear door on my 2015 Ford Explorer. Caused a door ajar message to flash all the time and prevented remote start from working (Northern Illinois winters) Yes, it was also a pain to find the broken wire and repair.
Love the way you navigate us through the wiring diagnostics-I can use less sarcasm directed at the s***heads giving you grief on anything they want to complain about - « DELETE, I SAY »…ahahaha! I just enjoy you being a mechanic showing us a WHOLE bunch of stuff…don’t go down that road as much as it pains you…we (should) all know better…it just feeds it - my opinion. Wow that harness is like the first thing put in. What a pain to remove (and reinstall). The worst kind of repair. What I do is to find the broken wires and push through new ones to replace them and splice in at each end, one splice in the door the other in the kick panel for each broken wire. That saves a little bit of the work.
Youzer, the pain in the A-- tasks you have to tackel. I have wiring issues, as my repairs typically inflict additional damage due to moving the other wires around the problem wire! U Brave Ray !
Had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had couple broken wires in between the door jam in the door sleeve a few days ago guys been running it like that for over a year. Three wires spliced back together fixed!
I have a 2002 Ford F350 super duty. My trailer flashers wouldn't work, and I traced it down to a wire between the fuse box in the cab and the relay box under the hood. In the middle of this wire loom that's all wrapped up that goes from the fuse box through the firewall into the engine compartment, there is one of those splices. The splice in the middle of that harness went bad. I just added another wire to bypass the splice and all was good. Good old Ford quality is job one crappola.
Nice catch on where the break was. I was looking at the water on the floor pan under the kick. I have a feeling this is a common problem on that version truck. I'll bet ford stocks a replacement harness and i think the molex plug in up high on the A pillar.

Typicalnof Ford issues with wiring on the doors. Been there done that plenty of times with Explorer (Exploders). Lol!
Broken door jamb wiring is very common on the f150. Seeing it a lot of my 450's now.

When youvsaid we couldnt see but it is what it is - then you brought the camera in for the close up I said DAMN! Ray cares about his camera skills! 😅😅
That was a good call about the wires maybe broken where the door opens and closes Great Detective work!!!!
You really nailed it again! Keep being awesome.

He used the theory of deduction.
What can go wrong?
He has also worked on a bunch of cars you learn short cuts.
There is an art to wire rummaging 😎 putting it back together is luck
First off you have to buy a subscription to an online service that has wiring diagrams.
The dealership under warranty added a new wire since the break was in an impossible location. This finally solved the problem. They spent lots on time and parts trying to fix it before adding a new wire.

Tune in next time for part 2, same Ray time, same Ray channel.

Oh my gosh Ray, you have more guts than I do taking all hose things apart. I would have no clue how to put it back together. Stay safe ❤
