      Actually soy sauce chicken rice is not the usual hainanese chicken rice. It is more of a Hong Kong style soy sauce chicken with plain rice and gravy. This is however a healthier form of "Chicken Rice" that taste good in its own way.

    • @lyhthegreat
      @lyhthegreat 5 лет назад +1

    Hi Ghib, unlike Singapore's steamed or roasted chicken rice, Hong Kong's soya sauce chicken rice recipe is normally served on white rice with some sauce poured on top. By the way, I appreciate your honest opinion. We watched 3 of your videos this morning. Keep up the good work. We are going to miss your insights into Singapore when all this restrictions is lifted & you finally manage to fly home.

  • @paecpc

    Sorry no offence , as a Singaporean, I have to comment that the soy sauce chicken rice served is definitely %100 sub-standard, it looks dry without any sauce, skin which can add flavor is missing and it just look unappetizing, most Singaporean will surely never return to such store if such dish is served. Thanks for encouraging people to return the used tray as most of the cleaners are elderly folks and we surely can give them a hand. And most of the hawkers selling food can be quite brash and unsmiling as they work very long hours with laborious chores, hope everyone can understand their situation. Thanks 😊

    • @tonymoly8739
      @tonymoly8739 5 лет назад +4

      @ paecpc
      Indeed, that plate of soy sauce chicken just looks mediocre. He’s given breast meat which tends to be a tad dry. Honestly speaking, all these Michelin rated stalls are over-rated. My mom can make much better soy sauce chicken at home and she’s a Cantonese too. The golden caramel soy sauce gravy is the soul of this dish. Most Hawkers here can’t do a decent one now. Likewise, the claypot rice. The aroma of rice cooked over charcoal is non-existent. The chicken pieces need to be marinated in a good wine sauce and throwing in a few chunks of premium quality salted fish and Chinese sausage make all the difference in this dish.Try eating soy sauce chicken and claypot rice in Malaysia and Hong Kong. These dishes taste much better there.

    • @richardyapp728
      @richardyapp728 5 лет назад +4

      I do not mind about sub standard sauce. In Australia, $S2.8 can buy only peanuts. No chicken and rice. Singapore food courts are quite affordable and unique.
      Elderly have to work long hours with very little pay. They have no energy left for smiling.

    • @loveispatient0808
      @loveispatient0808 5 лет назад +1

      A G for $2.80 , what do you expect?

    • @zhizian
      @zhizian 5 лет назад

      It depends on how you see it. If everyone keeps the tray... they might even get sacked and not have a job.

    • @tonymoly8739
      @tonymoly8739 5 лет назад

      Joseph Lee ....Only $2.80? For certain foods, I wouldn’t eat them even when they’re free. At our age we don’t eat much and what we put into our body systems really matters since we may not handle the food well after eating, so the quality, seasonings and the way the food is cooked matter. That’s why I rather cook most of my meals. In other countries, $2.80 can buy much better fare. In countries like Japan, food products and merchandise may be a tad more expensive than ours but their quality is way above what we get here in Singapore. So bottom line, we don’t get value for money goods anymore in SG.

    The vid makes me miss the food at Chinatown complex! You can also try good food at ABC market at Bukit Merah - there's a store called 瑞记 selling great wanton soup (10 pieces for just $3) and they are not just any ordinary wantons! Their wanton skins are so chewy and delicious and along with the meat it tastes so heavenly compared to all other wantons out there. It is also super cheap to get them at 10 for $3. There is also a famous claypot rice at ABC market that sells one of the best claypots I have tasted so far in Singapore.

    Just a correction on the popiah 's ingredient; it is not radish(daikon) but jicama that is used. Jicama can be eaten (and slightly sweeter and crunchier) but daikon rarely is eaten raw. Daikon is used for the 'carrot cake' in SG.

    For soy sauce chicken you can try Chiew Kee along Cross Street which is just next to Chinatown mrt station. It's not cheap but certainly waaaay better than what you queued for here. Get it with either rice or noodles, and the dumpling soup.
    There are two shops of the same name (split from the same family) but I personally prefer the one on the left.

  • @supreme87878

    The dark soy sauce is only a must have for the white chicken of the chicken rice (personal opinion though).
    I would say that is too much dark soy sauce added to your claypot rice.

Not far from the Claypot rice there are a stall selling only fried hor fun. Limited plates per day. Near that stall , there are two snack stalls, one selling mini fried sweet potato balls and another sells fried crispy honey sweet rice in cube form. Check it out. By the way, the fried honey crispy rice stall owner taught me how to stop ants, I noticed there were no ants coming to his stall, so I asked him, why no ants. He said use red coloured rubber bents. Throw a few around the possible ants track, and tie your plastic of sweet stuff with it. It works.

    "teochew style: soup usually more pepper and garlic and soup are clear"
    "Hokkien style: soup usually darker in color and uses more of herbs"
    "Cantonese style: soup are usually very herbal and medicine taste"

    Yo fam. If you ever wanna cover Japanese food in Singapore that isn't located in hawker/food court, there's a shop called Shinjuku Restaurant located at level 1 of Cuppage Plaza, 5 Koek Road located near Somerset MRT....been there a good 2 times or something before. It's actually pretty damn decent and rather worth the price. Hope you check it out! Have a Merry Christmas!

Just wanna let u know that there is a correct way of eating the XIAOLONGBAO, you have been eating it wrongly 😂 the correct way is to bite open the tip of the XIAOLONGBAO and sucks out all the meat juices, savour it, and then placed the ginger on top of the XIAOLONG BAO and then put it in your mouth!!! hope u sees my comment!! u will enjoy it even better!! 🤍🤍🤍

    Chicken Rice: Im actually shocked at how bland and basic the chicken rice looks... The only eye opener is the soy bean. I have not seen any chicken rice with it even as a Singaporean. I probably will not return to the stall if the rice actually look so bland and basic.
    Xiao Long Bao/Gyoza: The filing looks absolutely packed and no gap! Price is decent as well
    Chendol: Looks like the classic olden days chendol, unlike the modern days with more ingredients in it. They probably purposely kept it traditional!
    Claypot: Absolutely without a doubt the highlight of this video! The amount of effort put into making it is tremendous! Moreover, they provide with so many items (Oil, vegetables, dark soya sauce) to come with it that is not often seen! Just by looking at the dish itself, I can see the amount of flavour packed in it. 45 minutes of wait totally worth it and it's only $5?!!
