    Real scientists experiment. We placed ten children under cars then informed their mothers that their children might be suffocating under the vehicles. Out of 10 mothers two were able to lift the vehicles immediately, two used meth to accomplish the task, three asked neighbors for help, one used a jack, and three went back inside to finish watching "the view."

    Tbf whenever there's a story like "a woman lifted a car to save baby" it doesn't mean she lifted a whole vehicle but just tilted it. People do crazy shit when they're under huge amount of stress. Usually we have unconscious limits put on our muscles so we won't damage them for stupid reasons. Saving your own offspring is not a stupid reason
    A person who's in shock after a car accident can walk with a broken leg. That's why it's so important to send the victim to hostipal even if he / she claims to be OK. We do crazy shit when we're flooded by adrenalin

    I appreciate the satire, just wanted to clarify for those that don't know: hysterical strength is a real thing, look it up. There are documented examples of people lifting cars up when their loved ones are threatened underneath. They severely damage their muscles in the process, which is why you can't use that sort of strength every day, but it is certainly possible.

    • @medexamtoolscom
      @medexamtoolscom 4 года назад +140

      No it isn't, it's all urban legends. When you try your very hardest, you are indeed not activating all your muscle fibers, there IS a little bit of strength you're not accessing.... the trouble is, you're still accessing about 80% of it, meaning if your brain could access your body's full strength, the ability to lift 100 pounds would become the ability to lift 125.

    • @Hyperus
      @Hyperus 4 года назад +219

      you are not going to lift a vehicle fully, you may tilt it over a wheel axis, especially from behind, as the engines mass in infront of the frontal axis. And even then, I doubt the effect will be major, unless the vehicle...well... is really light.

    • @fuehnix
      @fuehnix 4 года назад +80

      @@Hyperus Also, I think this is likely in cases when you are in a ditch, or maybe the car is upside down. You know in situations where you will have leverage.

    • @keetonfoust
      @keetonfoust 4 года назад +117

      Most of the car lifting stuff is just leverage dude. 4000 pounds over the length of the car is possible for almost anyone to lift with enough adrenaline power.

    • @ajnode
      @ajnode 4 года назад +157

      I have no idea what "hysterical" strength is. The reality of the fact is similar to what people said above me. Though lifting an entire car over your head might equate to ~4000lbs, that is not what needs to be done to lift a car enough for someone to squeeze out. The suspension on a car means that the car will tilt in the direction of downward pressure. Some of that pressure could be alleviated if someone were to lift from a particular angle, and very briefly - the lift for something like that would be far less than ~4000lbs.

    This is satire, but to actually address the question with adrenaline no an ordinary person could not lift a car. Typically we have access to 50% of our strength, hysterical strength can take you to 100%. For an average woman 100% would be about 200lbs-300lbs. It is also worth mentioning that while a car may weigh 3,000lbs, to lift its front or back end off the ground typically requires closer to 700-900lbs of force. IF a woman lifted with 300 lbs of force, the car needs 700lbs to tilt, then 400lbs would remain pressing on the person below which will probably still kill them but is possible to potentially escape.

    • @LeslieB73
      @LeslieB73 5 лет назад +10

      Yes, if it is a 3000 pound car, then the rear end will probably weigh between 700 to 800 pounds.

      @@SteveOnlin Also worth noting strength athletes can tilt a car, and in some unusual positions even entirely lift it (all 4 wheels off the ground). Although they are males. The Female deadlift world record is 672lbs which isn't quite enough, although if she had full adrenaline maybe. Male deadlift world record is 1,104 lbs which is enough to tilt a car. And they can hip lift upwards of 2,700 lbs.
      (The 50% strength access doesn't apply to strength athletes because they access a larger percentage of their existing strength than normal people do, in addition just have more potential strength overall. But with full adrenaline they wouldn't double their records - especially considering they use ammonia to try and get some adrenaline going before their lifts anyways).

    I thought he was gonna say "So we decided to look at it from a scientists perspective. We found a mother leaving Walmart, in the parking lot at about 3pm on a Monday afternoon with her baby. John, my assistant, approached the woman and scientifically removed the baby from the mother's membership by first punching the mother in the face to stun her, then snatching the baby and running as hard as possible. With the mother now giving pursuit, we threw the child under my 2018 Honda Civic with 4 wheel drive and proceeded to slowly start rolling over the child, my assistant John keeping the mother at bay from simply reaching under.
    After a few minutes, and much effort from the mother... We determined that her efforts were enough."
    -- on the scene --
    "I mean, she basically lifted it."
    *"I mean yeah.. if the definition of lift is, y'know to put a lot of effort into getting something off the ground, yeah. I mean, yeah she lifted it"*
    -- commentary --
    "We decided to give the baby back. It was was only right that we returned the baby in one piece."
    "Oddly, she didn't seem very pleased."
    -- on the scene --
    *"My bAaaBYyy!!!"*

    "What me and John learned today was a very valuable lesson about what it means to lift something heavy. It's not about how much effort you put into it, but it's about the thought you put into it. I've been your host Kevin Mortali, back to the station."
