First Time Eating Icelandic Seaweed Straight From The Ocean with Eydís Jónsdóttir

  • If you watched my recent adventure video about the Reykjanes Peninsula then you might remember the short clips of Eydís and I eating fresh seaweed out of the ocean on Icelandic shores. It was such a fun and educational part of the video that I decided to use the ton of footage that I had from that time to make an individual video. I hope you enjoy learning how to forage and eat seaweed in Iceland, and I highly recommend giving it a try while you are here.

    Jewells, you have excelled yourself! Þetta myndband er frábært! Many years ago, I lived in Iceland (Reykjavík, Keflavík, Stykkishólmur, Ísafjörður, Akureyri) and studied at the University of Iceland. I think that must have been the time when Icelanders forgot about all the varieties of seaweed as Eydís mentioned. I don't remember ever being offered seaweed in a dish or as a medicine. I am vegan now and this is all so fascinating to learn about. It's good to know that Icelanders are becoming more innovative and using the plentiful natural resources of their land. Þakka þér kærlega!

    • @AllThingsIceland
      @AllThingsIceland  2 года назад +1

      Yay for coming to Iceland. Yes, the rules are changing often because we are battling an outbreak of Delta variant. Right now, the rule is that vaccinated people and those with a certificate of antibodies need to show a negative test that is less than 72 hours old and your certification at the border. You don’t need to test again once in Iceland. Those who have ties to residents or live in the country need to also have a test upon arrival. If that is negative, they can travel around. Also, masks are necessary when you can’t keep a one meter distance. It’s possible that the rules will change. Best to keep checking covid.is, if you are not already.

    Jewells! Omg I can’t believe your “guest” allowed you to eat the seaweed without at least rinsing it a little with a bottle of water or something. Did anyone catch when the lady said she usually “washes it first” because of (bugs) that could be in it?? I’d totally be like “let’s eat this together” kind of vibe. Jewells, you’re a champ. Thanks for biting the bullet for us but be careful. I literally cringed when I saw you continue to munch on more seaweed and the look on the lady’s face as you did it. If you have gastrointestinal symptoms a couple weeks from now, get your stool tested. I travel a lot and experience all types of nature and enjoy organic food but there are microscopic consequences that aren’t usually apparent until you get really sick, so just be mindful! That’s all! ;)

    That’s what happened to the First Humans; they migrated from Africa to Europe, and, over thousands of years, eventually turned White. Their genetics and almost Everything about them Changed. The same will happen to you (if you stay long enough). Great video (:

      My hair is in locs. I’m sure if you speak to a person that does Locs, they can help you get this style.
