Always happy to help out until people take the p!ss, bit more difficult on days when your in a busy route for maintenance and you gets asked for several different things. Think an above and beyond for me was a house move for someone down on their luck for everything they couldn't fit in their car..had to take the window out to get the sofa out and all sorts 🙄 it cheered them up tho and you never know what comes back in return some point down the line👍 I do say no to loads of things still tho😅

Hi Chris. I agree mate entirely. I’ve done everything from changing light bulbs, picking up prescriptions to putting up a curtain pelmet and even installed a washing machine for some of my elderly clients. I think it’s good practice and always pays off in the long run.

I was asked once by a regular client of mine about washing their car 🚗 which I did as they were both elderly, the husband was much handicapped with sever arthritis. I didn't insist on charging but she paid me handsomely. We don't need to be charging for every little task; moving a ceramic pot from the front to the back if you will. Hit the nail on the head pal. Just doing nice things for nice people doesn't cost anything.

Totally agree Chris, as they say " It's nice to be important, but it's far more important to be nice". I have done many things for my customers beyond the realms of gardening, collected shopping, prescriptions, bled radiators, tune TV's etc. Like you I don't believe it hurts, of course, if I feel I'm being taken advantage of, then it doesn't get done - I certainly wouldn't wash cars for my customers!!!

I’ve done many ‘non gardening’ things over the years for good clients. Trouble is many older people aren’t able to do even fairly basic manual tasks so happy to help if I’m comfortable to do so.
Yes I have washed a clients car once! Also changed lightbulbs. Moved furniture, cleared out sheds/garages. Gone shopping for various items, Repaired various things etc. not too fussed as long as the garden is the priority.

Absolutely perfect way to work. The main jobs first and those little extras go and long way and I think can mean more at times 👌👌

I often do a bit extra for my customers. I've got one or two who can only afford a couple of hours a fortnight, and I'll often do a little more than that, and tidy away in my own time etc. so they're getting 2 full hours of work. I've got a couple who want me to clean their summerhouse though, just whenever I can fit it in... I've said I would, but have to admit to putting it off a little. I hate cleaning, with a passion!! My problem is that I struggle to say no to people!

Trying to think of any instances I’ve had. Most recent was probably to drive with trailer over 600km (one way) to help a lovely client retrieve some items from her deceased cousins property. What a house! 4 levels plus a stilt section, was like something from a 60’s Bond film, the villains lair.
January is quiet so was happy to help.
Upon unloading, one of the many cats decided to jump in the back of the trailer, and took a piss against a table top ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️
Lady looking puzzled by what I’m doing, I’m in France fyi, I say, le chat… peepee and she went ballistic at the cat, omg it was frickin hilarious.

I don't do much 'above and beyond' these days, but a few years back I took an elderly customer on a 200 mile round trip to collect a new dog, which meant a great deal to her. She died a couple of years later and left me £300 in her will.

Iv done nothing very unusual, but I'm a black belt in undoing bleach bottles lol, but because I only have a small regular client base and good working relationship with all of them, I tell them and they know, for any reason they feel something is wrong or feel uncomfortable about a situation, no matter what the time, they can phone me or a colleague of mine and i/we will rush over straight away.
    👌👍

I've done all kinds of weird stuff; (including, but not limited to); setup iPhones, change lightbulbs inside and outside, roll out living room rugs, turn bed mattresses, move furniture (garden and house). Mostly elderly clients and do it with a good heart. Sometimes I do make excuses to escape the job though.
