She undertook NOT to leave the U.K. while the accident was being investigated, and she did within 24 hours so she has already demonstrated she is both a liar and a coward. It will be interesting to see if the U.S. stand by their professed determination in seeing "justice" done throughout the world, or does it only work one way. There is also debate about her immunity status as her husband was not registered as a diplomat (CIA agent), as is required. The U.S must be seen to do the "right thing" particularly with an ally, or it may find "friends" even fewer throughout the world.

Regarding the US, give the decision process time especially in light of the antipathy and contempt the British Diplomatic Service has shown towards the US to date. It has been revealed her husband was not a registered diplomat. Her failure to step up and take responsibility is an outrage.

As an American I am appalled that the US condones this heinous act. The President should demand that the woman be sent back to the UK and face what she has done. She has destroyed a family and their should be NO diplomatic immunity for murder.

Her husband was not registered as a diplomat, he is/was a CIA agent. She undertook not to leave the U.K. then did within 24 hours, so she is both a liar and a coward.

There was a diplomat who ran a red light and hit and ran a 21 years old man in Pakistan and then fled to USA. There has to be an accountability.

She has no need to flee as it was an accident per se. It was highly unlikely she was driving under the influence (DUI) given her eldest son was sitting on the front passenger seat by the time of accident; and any sign of ‘influence’ would be easily picked up during the initial enquiry by the police on the spot when she was reported ‘cooperative’.
Assuming she was driving with a proper license and fully insured, all she needs is a good lawyer and US government have plenty at its disposal.
The grief and anger are incurred by her lying to the police by claiming no intention of leaving the UK first, then fleeing the country by claiming on diplomatic immunity.
She was scared and misinformed by whoever gave the flee advice, which caused very damaging PR situation for the governments of both countries. It projected an unintended impression of arrogance and supremacy over other jurisdictions’ legal systems for the US government.

I heard similar stuff happening in Japan where US service members raped young japanese girls, even Germany. After all of this...... the US bases in Japan, UK, Germany still remain operational. The US has cvcked half the world, they do whatever they want. Yet, the Russians are the bad guys that we should look out for. This is a joke.

Put some perspective on this. It was obviously a very tragic accident so calling her a murderer is not going to help the situation in any way. I feel so sorry for his family. Their sorrow must be overwhelming but I'm sure they are not after any Witch hunt. I think the woman should do the right thing and return to the UK to explain the circumstances of what happened. Things could be learned from her explaining the events of the accident and help prevent another one in the future. Example would be putting reminder signs up around the base to drive on the left etc. That is why she needs to come back. Not for prosecution but to make sure things like this don't happen again. Her help is more than needed. The US are despicable in not facilitating this to bring closure for the poor lad's family.
