  • In this video I address a few issues that I have noticed in the recent couple of months. Issues addressed in this VLOG include engine knocking and pinging with high outside ambient temperatures, brake pedal vibration, a bent wheel that will never balance and a spare tire that was severely cracked.
The knocking and pinging is still present in high ambient temperatures (usually 85* and above) but has been drastically minimized with the use of premium fuel here in California. It's an expensive option but if it works i'll use it! I replaced the spare tire with a new one I purchased off of eBay. The brake pedal vibration got better after I "re-bedded" in the brake pads by repeating hard stops from 60-10 MPH over and over to heat up the rotors. The bent wheel will remain in the rear of the car either on the left or right side until I decide if I want to purchase a new / used wheel or not. It seems to be doing well in the rear of the car so far.

I put on 4K miles in the last month on my Honda Oddessey with squeeking from sticky breaks, wheels that are a bit out of alignment and wheels that vibrate at 70mph. I just checked the wheels to make sure that the rubbing is not causing extra heat and kept driving under 70mph when on freeways (about 2/3rds of the total milage). Average I was doing 63mph from LA to Seatle and headed back down in a wondering way and got about 22mph. On freeways 25mph. Man wish I could get the 27+ mph you get on your sienna. keep vanning :)

Try that lucas oil additive . the stuff is like glue... keeps any motor really safe. check the timing too.

paradoxdesigns Indeed, I love Lucas products too! I tried the power steering leak stop in my last van and it worked like a charm! Timing is computer controlled on the VVT-i engines so nothing to adjust there. Good suggestion though!

what about with mid-grade gas..or you might need knock sensor to be replaced..as i had to do it on my Es300..But there was check engine light

Thought about that too but no CEL for a knock sensor. Apparently its a common issue with these vans and after researching it seems that ACN fuels are more prone to knocking / pinging than the rest of the states.I actually ran mid grade (89) all the way from DC to CA and had no issues with knocking / pinging until I hit the ACN fuel. Bummer. Thanks!

1lifejourney these engines like talking to you that all. It also depends on how hard you push it because if I red line my 06 hear a tapping sound it normal.:) it goes away after time. The dealer will say the same thing. They have different shape cylinders then they use too.
