  • Nissan Maxima Diagnosing Cause of DTC P1320. This code can set even on a car that runs fine. Usually it is caused by an ignition coil that is just starting to fail or by a coil that was replaced with a non OEM unit. This diagnosis did result in me replacing one coil with a good OEM unit and the check engine light stayed off.

This is possibly the best diagnostic video I have seen yet on RUclips. Thank you! I sure hope you make money on your RUclips videos. There are so many crappy videos on RUclips that people are making money on these days. Your diagnostic here can save anyone a minimum of $100 in diagnosing a failing ignition coil. And you give a comprehensive description of what is actually going wrong. It's clear that you have put a lot of time into professionally diagnosing cars. Again, I hope you get paid.

I have a '95 Maxima (4th gen), the red coil wires on the back (cyl. 1,3, & 5) are on to the right instead.
When you say, no more than 0.3V for that rpm, are you talking about 2500 rpm, the 4000 rpm you set your car to, or it doesn't matter?
Shouldn't I worry about backfeed when doing this operation?

Very good and explicit video, however maybe should have a helper. Running the engine at 4k rpm for over 3 minutes without a load not a good idea.

Doesn't matter in the teeniest slightest bit. Probably overheat the cats after 15 minutes. 3 or 4 minutes at 4k stationary in cloudy mild cooler Washington weather is a ok

Can't hear you over the engine for some reason aftermarket coils work okay but they don't clear the code on the ECM pick up Nissan dealer coils

Yes, some of the aftermarket coils continue to set the code. Always best to use OEM parts not “OE equivalent” whenever possible.

Thanks for the video, it helped me a lot. I have a question. the pulses of the coils can be seen directly on the connectors of the coils?.

Yes. But they are far easier to reach and probe all 6 at the computer.

Wrong trouble shooting. This is caused by either a weak camshaft or a weak crankshaft sensor

Yes, my camera makes certain types of sounds seem much louder on video than they seem when hearing them n person.

You might want to stop reving
engine you're going to blow up the engine

    • @blackjaredm
      @blackjaredm  2 года назад +2

Yes, it would be kinder to the engine to not do the prolonged rev, however from experience with this engine in other Maxima’s that I have sent to the scrap yard due to having other problems (usually transmission) deemed not worth repairing I have learned that this particular engine can be run at full throttle bouncing off the rev limiter for hours on end with no apparent damage...not recommended though.

Boy... These people must putt putt around Mayberry....
Every time I go over Stevens pass or Snoqualmie pass @ 65mph my V6 Auto vehicle kicks down and is about 4,000 rpm for the 20 minutes drive over the steep part. I guess my 220,000 miles Toyota is just on borrowed time, hanging on by tooth floss and a prayer..... Funny it sure runs good though... I'm sure the Internet knows better though.

Ever do a followup on the replaced coil? I have the exact same problem. P1320 code is a pain in the ass. Runs great when the check engine light comes on... I assume the "computer" is to the right side of the center console? THANKS!!
