- 'A rainy day on the Swanage Railway': With the Summer season well underway, the Swanage Railway was operating its most intensive timetable to date. Operating their Purple timetable - new for 2017 - the day featured two standard passenger services operating between Norden and Swanage, and four return trips on the new 'Wareham Service'.
Following a shunting accident, as well as other ongoing repairs and maintenance, the beginning of August was looking bleak for the railway with no serviceable steam locos available. This resulted in some frantic activity, and the arrival of T9 Class 30120 (courtesy of the National Railway Museum). However, following bottom-end maintenance and mainline equipment fitting, U Class 31806 was to resurrect the Swanage Spirit as she returned to service.
Locomotives:
Ex-SR U Class - 31806
BR Class 33 - 33111
BR Class 33 - D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN"
WCRC Class 33 - 33025
All footage filmed on Wednesday the 9th of August 2017.
Nice to the see the embankments at Harmons Cross nicely flailed back.
Yes, bit more scope for video and photos now.
I just hope 257 is ready in time she is due back on the 21st august
Oh, she'll be ready, I can tell you that.
806 looking fine in that new paint and lining !
She sure is. Sounds as sweet as ever too after the maintenance work.
Do you work at Herston ? She does sound and look great! Dan
I volunteer in the works when I have the time and days off, yeah.
So what happened in the shunting accident?
It involved 34070 "Manston", and 80146. That is all I'm allowed to say.
TheSoutherner you mean 80104
80146 / 80104 - same thing at the moment.
Why is that, is it a secret or is it being covered up? As it's a public service the truth should not be hidden surely.
No, really, I'm not allowed to say. It occurred in a private sector of the railway, with privately owned locomotives.
