Here is a good tip. I joined as a reservist. As part of signup/program I got guaranteed MKA school right after boot. (You can always go active if you want after A school is completed). Note, when I joined in 1980 if you were honorman in A school (top scorer) you would usually get one of the best choice of assignments when everyone else is filling out the "dream sheet" hoping against hope for a good assignment.

My non-rate days, 87-89, at a now closed air station; which was a ton of fun and landed me in Army Warrant Officer Flight Program. Went from a USCG E3 to US Army E5 then a US Army WO1.
I have a blast in the Coast Guard and would’ve stayed if the WOC Flt Program didn’t present itself.

Nice video but you forgot about all the Painting, nailgunning, sanding, mowing, cleaning etc you have to do as a nonrate, especially if your on a cutter! Granted I was in the Old Guard but it has to be somewhat the same. Much better once you are rated imho.....

My wife will but I’d rather pay someone to do it than do it myself. 🤣Now I’m too old and in pain from my back breaking while I was serving! Those things catch up to you faster than you want or think! I only chose it because it seems to be something I have a lot of knowledge in but was wondering what the job was like on the field? Are you familiar with IS and the wait time associated with striking it? I want to do federal police work and see that IS directly specializes with federal intelligence. I understand you're an IT so I'm assuming you work with them like they do in the Navy.
If you are familiar with it would you recommend taking the wait time as a non-rate to strike it?
Are you familiar with the billets available? I'm looking for a chance to visit some foreign ports or hopefully strike an overseas assignment like Japan or Spain.
How does your work compare to an IS'?
As for the work as an IS, is it more analyzing or collections? I've spoken to a recruiter and am trying to figure out what C-schools I'm looking at as an IS.
Lastly, what qualifications should I work on while a non-rate to make my life a little less depressing?
    Thanks in advance.

@@francescavinci8445 Alright so, first “night” your heart starts pumping that’s when you meet one of your CC’s. Then you get sent to your squadbay. COVID has changed how things work there at the Bootcamp, so you’re in ROM for two weeks;(they tell you think of it as 6 weeks), so 16 hours a day you’re inside your dorm with the exception of getting food going to the gym, etc.
After ROM, the schedule varies daily. However one thing stays consistent in the day, smoke sessions, going to the galley, roll call, and cleaning the squadbay at the end of the day.

In this video you talked about doing law enforcement as a non rate, doesn't that require going to Military Police School?
