    Sir if either this is head on situation or crossing situation the rule says in both of them to alter course to starboard ,and in crossing it clearly written that stand on vessel cannot alter course to port for a vessel lies on her own port side

    head on situation if you are in doubt if it is head on. then assume head on. give enough alteration for the other vessel to recognize your action.

    The only disagreement I would have is placing equal blame on the two vessels. The only major fault of the container ship is that they didn't alter substantially, the bulker however broke rule 14 and 15 (whichever they assumed was happening). The bulker should have been stand on or altered to stbd. Their alteration to port put the container ship in a very bad position, which could only have been rectified by coming fully round to stbd and back on to course. If I was to apportion blame, I would say 80-20 to the bulker. Thanks for the videos, they're really interesting as I'm coming up to my orals.

    Actually I believe, what should could have also be done is to change the speed - especially the 23.7 kts is quite high speed to keep it in this situation - at latest at point 3. What do you think ?

    • @jayd6098
      @jayd6098 3 года назад

      Speed alone may not be sufficient. Rule 8 action to avoid collision states changing course may be suficient.
