I’ve been making these sandwiches ever since I saw this video, and it’s just so much fun to mix and match fillings. I absolutely recommend only egging one side because when you flip it, the other side just becomes toast and gives you texture. My favorite fillings are blistered cherry tomatoes and breakfast sausage with basil and extra sharp cheddar cheese.
Mostly dyed blue to distinguish it from other already red items, strawberry, cherry, and spicy candy called fire were already red along with watermelon, they ran out of easy to produce red variants, and made artificial raspberry things blue.

I do a twist on that egg fold sandwich when I make them, I grill/fry the bread in the pan first on one side then pour the eggs over. You get a crispy exterior but still the egg soaked bread effect and the folded up sandwich. I also usually use a rustic sourdough.
The videos of the guys cooking the “bread omelet” on the streets of Mumbai shows how phenomenally fast they are. They add a spice mix, onions, chiles, diced tomato, and herbs like coriander.
I get what James is saying about "dont call it bacon" BUT as an exvegan (urgh, I'm just not a good enough person... plus i lived in Japan where it was almost impossible and even regular food costs a fortune. Long story anyway) calling these recipes bacon gives you ideas of how you can use them. Like if this was called a crisp i think then we would only think of eating them as is but with the word bacon it then makes me think of all the places that bacon is used so now these could be used in sandwiches/burgers/salads/on a breakfast plate etc which is not something I would think of with crisps (mostly because i'm not intelligent and I've never had an original thought in my life haha!)

Yeah I'm a vegan and I do get what he's saying. I never liked pork so bacon would put me off, and glazed smokey carrots sounds better. But you're also right, like it makes thinking up how to mix and match recipes easier
There are so many different ways to be a good person, and your diet has nothing to do with how good of a heart you have, or how rich of a life you've lived. I know some very good vegans who are quite nasty unhappy people. It doesn't define goodness. If these things are important to you, there are many ways to support the environment, or help animals if your food choices are limited. Besides, one of the ways to be a good person is humility, and doing good deeds so that no one ever finds out! It's a wonderful secret to keep between only you and God 😇💙✌
Squonk I once made angel food cake - I think it had less sugar than usual if I remember - and used it as bread for my gluten free granddaughter because I hated the gf recipes for bread (several years ago, they’ve improved by now). That's what I was thinking. The blue is awful. I could see making it pale pale blue or other pastel. It looks like they added 1/3 cup of sugar. That's about the amount that goes into an angel food cake.

Obviously, the reason their called "Carrot Bacon" is because their sliced thin and cooked crunchy, so it looks like bacon. Its not actually bacon on itself. Its like if you cut a carrot into a hot dog shape and put it on a stick, grilling it. It'd look like grilled hot dog, but that doesn't mean it has been transformed into an actual hot dog.

I've started making that egg sandwich for breakfast every week for breakfast and found the same need for crunch. My solution was to take bacon, cut the strips in half and make them crispy so that they are perfectly sandwich sized. I also use a nut bread, so there's also the crunch from that as well. It really makes a perfect satisfying breakfast.

Ben, you mentioned about putting cornflour in meringue. My mum always adds it. She uses an old Mrs Beeton recipie and they’re fantastic every time. Very marshmallow-y in the middle.

Agreed! Veggies are just as worthy to be the star of dishes if you know how to cook them! They don't always have to be fake/wannabe meat or meat alternatives rip
Obviously, the reason their called "Carrot Bacon" is because their sliced thin and cooked crunchy, so it looks like bacon. Its not actually bacon on itself. Its like if you cut a carrot into a hot dog shape and put it on a stick, grilling it. It'd look like grilled hot dog, but that doesn't mean it has been transformed into an actual hot dog.
Amen to this. It also looked nothing like bacon.
No one is pretending it's meat.
It's a way to easily describe something to give people an idea of what it is.

I've started making that egg sandwich for breakfast every week for breakfast and found the same need for crunch. My solution was to take bacon, cut the strips in half and make them crispy so that they are perfectly sandwich sized. I also use a nut bread, so there's also the crunch from that as well. It really makes a perfect satisfying breakfast.

Maybe caramelize the onions in the same pan before you add the eggs? It would keep the 'one pan' nature of the recipe while also making it better!

@@nottsoserious It would also add some onion flavor to the egg which is great because regular egg is bland. I would also sautee some garlic in the juices to get some of that in there as well.

For the sandwich: i‘d toast the bread and just soak one side in egg. So you get some crunch.

Crispy bacon and smoked gouda with parmesan in the fold, egg only one side of the bread and pre butter the other ..yummy and crispy ..think I'm gonna try this one!

I've tried this with egg on one side only and butter on the other, it worked well.
The sandwich is much better without flipping the bread in the egg. Gives a proper crunchy outside rather than floppy french toast.
fry the bacon in the pan first, remove then cook the egg in the remaining bacon fat 👍

That egg sandwich at the end looks fantastic. I've tried it myself and popping a couple of rounds of pickle in there made it perfect for me. Gave it the crunch that you mentioned might have been missing in your own
I've made it also and I'm intrigued by the idea of more crunch.. I think an experiment where the bread is toasted first is in order.
