I totally agree wholeheartedly with all these. I will add one more, if I may -- to find the natural passions your kids have and to allow them to explore them to the fullest. Public schools attempt one-size-fits-all, which at best is mediocre for most kids and absolutely disastrous for some. By allowing kids to find what naturally interests and intrigues them, we can take advantage of the 10x learning boost they get from teaching themselves subjects in which they are avidly engaged and immersed. Yes they need the basics in the "3 R's" but beyond that, let them discover what sparks their imagination. In my opinion, as homeschool parents, this is our greatest task - to help our children effortlessly unlock that amazing potential that all kids have.
