Friends with Vises! Cool! I built a Covid-Workbench and friend had THREE vises from a school (I think UPenn) they were throwing out! He gave me one, I restored it (paint, lube and new handle). Doesn't that Wilton have the wind out, then pull feature instead of having to unwind it all the way out? If you need another... Cold. Yeah, that wind yesterday! You have snow coming so your Toboggan is gonna get used soon! Love the holes in the wheel for the clamping! Stay warm and Thank you, for the videos and sharing your projects! (grrr, who gave this a thumbs down???)
This winter hasn't been brutal yet, but these past couple of days haven't been fun. Calling for 4-12 inches tomorrow into Monday by me.

It's amazing how clean the backsides of my shirts are hahahaha. I should have said 29 is the temperature before I turn on the heater. I get it to the 45-50 degree range on these colder days.
Another interesting project, am looking forward to watching this one evolve, never tried steam bending but like allot of people it is on my list of things to do when I have time 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yeah the initial building of all the components to bend is time consuming, and all the subsequent jigs can also be time consuming so definitely one of those things I wish I had more time to play around with.
I have been watching you channel for a few months now and it really is nice to see someone that is such a great artist/crafts person and does not have to have all new tools and the latest gadget. Very impressed with your know how. Very talented, very creative, very skilled. Well done. This reminds me of how I learned and began oh so many years ago. The Wilton vise you have should also have screw holes behind the wooden jaw that is against the bench for more support if you did not know already. I found several old school benches with the lockers under them several years ago and they all had 4 vises on each one. So I have been very blessed to have been able to give some of them to other people that put then to good use. One more thing to think about is that when someone offers you some thing you think is free, well you have already payed for it by what you give us with you content and hard work. Sometimes things need to be passed on so they can keep being used for what they are intended for by people that can appreciate the whole worth of what it is. Well done and thank you.

Tough to heat a condensed shop filled with flammable stuff......makes me glad I build amplifiers in mine, it gets cold 🥶 in MI!

Yeah I have a concealed propane heater that I use these days that works pretty well. Finding a spot to put it can be a little difficult but the flame is pretty concealed and I don't run it at full force. Something like a torpedo heater would be terrifying in this space haha. The other problem with this shop is even though I've been using it longer then I thought I would I never intended it to be a forever shop so I never put in the time to add lots of upgrades and that can be challenging at times.

I have more time than you do but I always immerse my 1/4 " thick strips for about a week before steam bending. It seems to help a lot. Nice project, looking forward to part two.
I have heard soaking works really well. Next project I will have to try and set aside time to do that.
I have been killing myself with quarantine projects.....I am going to start on this one as soon as I can!!! I can not wait to watch the rest of the series and complete one myself! Hopefully my kids will keep it and pass it down. You make great videos always look forward to the next one. Keep them up!

29 degrees in a shop makes for a couple of things. If there's a concrete floor, it's tough on the feet and lower legs without good insulated boots. And second, snot icicles. Neither of which is fun 😀.

hahaha the snot icicles are the worst. I go through so many tissues. The 29 is without the heater running. It's pretty loud and messes up the audio. Most days I get it to 45-50 and don't suffer too bad.
Great project! Love the drying rack concept and conduit solution. Looking forward to seeing this little ripper finished. I enjoy steam bending as well, it is super satisfying (when it goes well). Wicked awesome that this is a barter project! ✌🤘

This is really interesting. I've seen steam bending vids before but this (I hate to use a cliche but...) this really does take it to another level of useful application, as well as instruction. Looking forward to the next part. Thumbs up and thanks for posting.

Nice to see a RUclips jig being made for a specific purpose rather than just as a stand-alone project. Love the beautifully classic design and the honour in barter. I'm curious, did you have a number of designs in mind or was it an obvious choice? Thank you for sharing.
Different designs in mind for the toboggan? Or designs in mind for different projects to fulfill the barter in general?
@@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks I did mean the toboggan, but I would be fascinated to hear of any other projects you have in mind for barter or pleasure - though maybe they're the same? I've never felt that this type of barter was about retail value, more about the value to the receiver including the intellectual, effort or emotional value.
