    I think some of the Kingdom hearts content creators have a strong influence on a portion of heightened expectations and deliberately create content to focus on hyping the fans.
    Saw a really interesting video about aspects of kh and its fanbase. One part of the video I couldn't agree with was that they were of the opinion that content creators had no bearing on the fans over expectations and hype levels.

    • @gustavju4686

      I don't agree with them either on that last bit. Content creators tend to be hypers.

    • @ProdigyxCD
      @ProdigyxCD  Год назад +9

      I agree, though gotta remember creators are people too. They just happen to make videos about their excitement to share it, they are just as vulnerable to Love the game or be disappointed like anyone else. What it really came down to was that for some people the game delivered and for some it didnt, influencers included. There's many influencers who were disappointed about the game they were excited about, while there were others who loved it. I think no matter who you watch its always just best to come to your own conclusion and feelings.

    • @grantimusprime
      @grantimusprime Год назад +1

      @ProdigyxCD completely agree. I like to watch a range of different perspectives on things I enjoy.
      I didn't and won't name content creators because A) I don't want to bash them and for others to then dog pile, and B) I am not a mind reader, while I feel that some over hype deliberately because of monetisation and to avoid hurting feelings, I don't know that for sure and would feel confident asserting it as 100% fact.

    • @boyishdude1234
      @boyishdude1234 Год назад

      I think content creators have too much influence over not just the fans, but the developers. I've honestly yet to see any truly valid, well substantiated criticisms of vanilla/base KH3, and the game has been out for over four years at this point. That isn't to say that the game doesn't have any objective problems and/or shortcomings, because it absolutely does, but my point is that basically all of the content creators who have attempted to criticize KH3 have utterly failed to actually point out and address its actual objective problems, and when you criticize their atrociously bad takes, they (or their fans) either hide behind the relativism excuse to deflect criticism (thereby conceding on every point), gaslight you or move the goalposts. Despite all of this, people legitimately believe that KH3 is this deeply flawed, mediocre or bad game, even though no one has managed to actually prove that claim. This also led the developers to making a number of questionable choices and decisions in the DLC patch, particularly to the targeting system, which were intended to address "problems" with the game that didn't actually exist.
      If this series is to progress at all in its design quality, the positions of KH2 fans will need to stop being treated as though they have intellectual legitimacy. I'm tired of KH2 fans being held up on a pedestal as though they have valuable things to say when all they do is hold the Osaka Games to a different set of arbitrary standards than they do the Tokyo Games and dogmatically reject any positions that conflict with what they prefer to believe. By all means, criticize the Kingdom Hearts games; I criticize them too. But you need to be consistent and objective with your criticisms if you want me to take you seriously and not dismiss you as an intellectually dishonest sophist who prioritizes your feelings over the truth.
      TL;DR bl00dybizkitz is a cancerous, talentless hack that has done permanent damage to the community. I don't care about his opinions. I'm interested in the facts and the truths born out of them. He can dislike KH3 all he wants, but that doesn't make it a less than good game.

    • @grantimusprime
      @grantimusprime Год назад

      @Boyishdude I really enjoy bb's kh talks. They seem level headed. He has a very strong understanding of mechanics and their influence on how the games are played.
      I think that AskYourUncle makes a strong case while still wanting those who enjoy kh3 to still enjoy it.
      I don't think fans who enjoy kh2 more are held on a pedestal. I think both sides typically have very heated debates and there is reasonable arguments to be made and also very extreme takes from both sets of fans.
      I prefer 2. It's in my top games of all time. However, it has its flaws for sure.
      I believe 3 has much more flaws however at the end of the day, I still had a great time playing it and have completed it several times and have the platinum trophy for 1,2 and 3.
      Is 3 your favourite? What is it that you love about it? What do you think are its flaws? What would be an example or some examples of criticisms you think are unfair or of a double standard?
      I enjoyed reading your perspective, so thanks.

    Nomura was definitely Rushed kingdom hearts 3 and instead working on other video games project back when kingdom hearts 3 was still undevopment. He even left out a lot few stuff such as the drive form mechanic was used to summon instead of the magic bar. And there is also not testing out the kingdom hearts games on switch which he failed to do instead using the cloud version was Nomura biggest mistake. Plus he should have just remastered entire kingdom hearts games and entire xehonart saga with a graphic card and engine upgrade.

      Don't know about if he actually said that but I'm not going to entertain the thought this video is trying to convey about it actually not being that long between 2 and 3 because we got handheld games. Most of those are prequels and just adds to lore but doesn't push of the story forward and it certainly doesn't help when the climax ends up being as weak as it was in 3. We literally have gotten as more prequel and side projects than mainline games. It's ridiculous and it's a shame that it hasn't even been an signficant improvement story or game play wise since 2.

  • @RealAvery

    finally a reasonable take
    alot of the hype mongers on the kh community usually give these to their audience as they overhype especially during the dry season:
    -people get burned out by the hype
    -get let down because the game didn't meet their expectations
    when those expectations are not met just like what happened with the community in kh3 the fandom will be ultra-polarized to the point its toxic.
    which will cause people to never want to get hyped ever due to hype burnout, leave the kh community all together, or people will just engage in the toxicity as only then the cycle will repeat with any future major entry in the series.
    to a point the hype mongers are at fault as much as the individual person to let their imagination run wild with crazy expectations & which contributes to toxicity overall.

    I suppose thats just what happens in a place like the internet where no one knows each other and wildly different oppinions clash
    For my part, im just glad we're over the "KH3 is the worst game ever" phase, as someone who enjoyed the game on release it was truly hard to see all the negative comments about the game, that weren't all necessarily critism.
    Obviously Kh3 ain't anywhere close to a masterpiece, but why let it stop you from having any fun at all with the game
    At least thats how I think

    • @johnwise4341
      @johnwise4341 Год назад +1

      KH3 was very average. It had potential if it followed the formula of the older games, but created a new adventure. It just seemed like an extension of KH 2 and not an actual sequel. They just wanted to show off the graphics. It seemed like one of those Disney games that are cheap and used to sell to their merchandise. It lacked a lot of passion and detail that was put into other games.

    • @silvsora
      @silvsora Год назад +1

      @@johnwise4341 well thats just straight up cap, it did not lack passion, Disney was just very strict with the game and yes a lot stricter than with the other games because of its anticipation, at least thats what Nomura stated.
      And I have no idea what you mean by "it just seemed like an extension of KH2", I can't agree on that, whether or not its the combat and game mechanics, story or something, KH3 was definetely trying something new and the only reason why the adventure didn't feel fresh is because this adventure wasn't as mysterious as the others, Sora failed in DDD his Mark of Mastery and now had to regain his powers immediately bringing us to familiar world that is the Olymp, there wasn't shit like Castle oblivion and or playing the first hours as Roxas.
      And Yeah while its not for everyone I can totally get behind why people would have this game as their absolute number 1 in the series, its not perfect by any means but its definetely not a "bad" or "average"
      game, the developers definetely put a lot of heart into it.

    I actully felll of the KH train becuse I dont have a PS4 and I am not interessted in the cloud versions.
    But I am looking foreward to some day catch up once I got a PS5 even if it might still take a while.
    With my expectations of works of fiction in general I normally go in with mild optimism. So low expectations but not negativ ones. I think I am going to enjoy it. Its a very enjoyable mindset. Its positiv but still leads to my expectations being surpassed often.
    Now when it comes to entries in franshises I truly love its different.
    At first its like alwsys but when the release date draws nearer I can not help but to get exited while a part of me activley tries to keep my expectations low. With other works of fictions my mild optimism feels natural. It just happens. But with stuff I love its like an activ struggle in me between my excitement and trying to keep my expectations low. Its also just happens. Its not somthing I actively do.
    Right now I got a lot to get excited about. My favorite work of fiction is the Manga/Anime series "Made in Abyss". I watched season one 11 times and Dawn of the Deep Soul 5 times. I also read the Manga only as far as the Anime goes (until volume 5) multipple times.
    I have not watched season 2 yet. I wait fore the Blue Rays to Release in my country. That happens in the begining of July this year. And once I watched season 2 I will countinue with the Manga aswell. Oh I am so excited.
    Reg and Nanachi are my 2 favorite characters in fiction and Riko also makes my top 10. I look foreward to see how there Adventure continues.
    My favorite Videogame is "Fuga Melodies of Steel". Its a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of animal children that go on a quest to save there families.
    I bought this game in March 2022 and I have played through it 12 times since. 6 of those playthroughs where back to back with only a few days between finishing a playthrough and begining a new one.
    I adore this game and I am kinda obssesed with it.
    And in May this year its direct sequel is comming out.
    Oh my hype can not be contained.

    I have a theory, perhaps Sora was supposed to save Kairi in order to unlock the next step to his destiny, if I am correct, then it might be possible that he is supposed to bring new worlds into the world of Kingdom Hearts, cause from what we get to see, the world of Kingdom Hearts is big, but not as big as Disney itself, and Sora might just be the key (no pun intended) to expand the world, to sum it up, I think the world Sora gets pulled into isn't just an unreality for those in Kingdom Hearts, but a nexus to the other realities that Disney has bought, and maybe some Final Fantasy realities as well, and in order to return to Kingdom Hearts, his job is to bring the world of Kingdom Hearts and the unreality he is in now together, and if I am spot on, that means he will probably have to go to worlds that were bought by Disney, like Star Wars and Marvel, but in the words of MatPat "But remember, thats just a theory, A GAME THEORY!?!

    There is nothing inherently wrong with discourse. It's actually a good thing to talk about the objective problems these games may have and how they can be fixed so that way the series can improve going forward. The issue is that Kingdom Hearts fans, especially KH2 fans (in my experience and according to my observations over the course of nearly four years at this point), have little or no regard for the facts, don't care about the truth and aren't interested in having a discussion with people who disagree with them. Discourse is fine, but when one or both sides of the discussion aren't willing to operate rationally and objectively, it stops being a discussion and starts being a fight where the "winner" is the person with the most mental endurance, and that typically ends up being the person who is the most intellectually dishonest because they're the one with the most to lose optically from not being willing to argue in good faith. Rational people who use their intellect and knowledge to make solid arguments with sound reasoning and empirical evidence aren't going to be willing to continue dealing with someone who isn't listening to what they have to say, especially if the person they're dealing with is constantly using strawmans, ad-hom character attacks and various other forms of sophistry, so eventually rational people just mentally 'check out' and stop making meaningful arguments because as decent human beings they are naturally averse to conflict and have no desire to interact with malicious people for longer than they have to as a matter of optics. As a result, the malicious person scores brownie points with their in-group for "dunking on the stupid people" and the rational person, even if they didn't do the best job optically, only wins over, or partially wins over, more rational individuals, who are few and far between these days because nowadays nearly everyone prioritizes their own opinions over what's actually correct. Yes, people _can_ be wrong about whether or not something is a problem with KH3. The nature of something that exists isn't subjective.
    Generally speaking, my approach is that I try treat people exactly as I would treat a friend who I'm having that kind of conversation with by being generally nice but still ultimately asking the hard questions and explaining my own position as best as I can, and then after I've tested the waters I treat people exactly as they treat me. I'll be open to the possibility that I might be wrong from the beginning and engage in discussion honestly with what I know or what I think I know but am either wrong about or am putting forward more tentatively because I'm not quite as certain in the validity of those conclusions, but if you open your conversation with me in an openly hostile manner and are clearly a pretentious, entitled brat who thinks that you've made "good arguments" by merely making a bunch of empty assertions and saying that they're true, and then you start treating me like completely garbage, especially to the point of treating me as though I have no taste and that I'm subhuman trash for disagreeing with you and not taking kindly to your openly malicious attitude, I'm not going to give any consideration to what you have to say because you're not listening to me to begin with, even though I'm still going to address your malicious nonsense as best as I can without getting too riled up or upset because of the clearly mean-spirited bad faith non-arguments being presented to me by an emotionally volatile and unstable adult toddler who was probably physically and verbally abused as a child. If you can't be nice, I don't have the time or energy to consider conceding to anything you say, especially when it's pretty obvious that you just want me to validate your ego by "admitting that I'm wrong" without you having to put forth the necessary effort to prove that I'm wrong because your conclusions lack sound foundation. I speak from relatively recent experience.
    TL;DR The reason discourse is so volatile in this community is because people on neither side, but especially KH2 fans, are not willing to have intellectual conversations with the "outgroup". They're only interested in confirming their own biases and seeking emotional validation, and this leads to the creation and perpetuation of echo chambers and groupthink mentality, which is why so many KH fans, especially KH2 fans, can hardly be said to have their own conclusions and their own opinions that they arrived at independently. This community simply has no interest in the truth, and with that comes a complete lack of interest in basic critical thinking, reasoning, analysis and communication skills, as well as a lack of interest in doing basic research so that way you have your facts in order and being objective and unbiased in your quality assessments. If you need an example of what I mean by all of this, look no further than bl00dybizkitz and his bad KH Talks videos, as well as his bad Birth by Sleep and Floaty Combat videos. All he does is spread misinformation and/or disinformation (yes, he does making knowingly false statements sometimes), present empty assertions as though they are already proven facts, back up those empty assertions with more empty assertions, as well as exaggerate partial truths that reek of cherry picking and/or lying by omission to make a point, apply double standards to the Osaka Games and then accuse anyone who disagrees with his terrible, bad faith (non-)arguments of being "an unreasonable person who will never be satisfied with anything he says" after he gets called out and criticized for being biased. I mean, that right there kind of proves that he is simply not interested in being open to the possibility that he might be wrong and that his arguments might be bad, and it also proves that he collectively views all of his critics as bad faith actors who are completely unreasonable people, which... well, let's just say that I'm not surprised that a popular thought leader in the community views everyone he disagrees with as part of a single collective, and in turns treats that collective like garbage (I wish I was making this up, but bl00dybizkitz is legitimately hostile towards the slightest suggestion that he could be wrong. He is _not_ willing to consider his own fallibility, which is why he consistently treats the people who criticize him so badly, regardless of whether or not they are arguing in good faith or bad faith. bl00dybizkitz has a bad reputation outside of his in-group for a very good reason). The only way someone can think that bl00dybizkitz is "level-headed and rational" despite all of these issues is if they aren't looking at the subtext and the logic (or lack thereof) of what he's saying and identifying the consistent patterns of behavior and argumentation that make him not just toxic, but intellectually dishonest. He's biased against the Osaka Games and the fans of those games. That is the opposite of rational and level-headed. That is him prioritizing his personal feelings over the facts.
    One more thing: Games should not and cannot be made to please the largest number of people possible. They already tried that with KH3 and it didn't work. Osaka Team threw KH2 fans a bone with its rich combat system, greatly improved level design and various interconnected RPG elements and they spat on it instead of chewing on it and enjoying it. When you make a game for the mass market, there will always be people that hate it for one reason or another. This idea that it's even possible to make a game that everyone will like is a utopian pipe dream that fails to understand how personal preferences and target demographics actually operate. What Square Enix needs to do is pick a single target demographic and cater these games exclusively to them. They should not be trying to making Kingdom Hearts games that everyone will like. It's not possible to make a game that everyone will like, attempting to do so results in a community that is heavily fractured because there are too many different preferences involved in the kitchen's decision-making process, and we ought not repeat the biggest mistakes of the ReMind DLC, which fractured the community even more than KH3 already did by being a DLC that was catered to a fringe minority of the playerbase that didn't like KH3 whilst still being attached to KH3 and was marketed at both KH3 fans and the fringe minority the bad DLC bosses were made for, which split the playerbase culturally and caused quite a volatile discourse, especially from the KH2 fans that to this day are still baselessly accusing everyone who disagrees with them about the superbosses being good of being "bad players that don't know what they're doing", or if they can't make that specific point, accuse you of lying about being good enough to beat them. Or their brains just bluescreen at the mere suggestion that a good player could possibly criticize the superbosses for being badly designed, as if there's no capacity for more nuanced positions and the issue of superbosses being good or bad is a black-and-white "skill issue". What Square Enix did with the ReMind DLC was just a bad, irresponsible and reckless business, and as a business model that's bad in the long term, even if I were to assume for the sake of discussion that the DLC bosses are actually fair and well-designed like the toxic, smarmy KH2 fans say they are, despite the evidence and logic to the contrary.

      Xehanort and the org use Vexen's research to recreate a model of Xion based of the data they have. Then they do tests in toybox and San Fansokyo. After that they create a model of Xion that's just empty puppet, but after Saix keeps pushing her to remember Axel and Roxas, because he was a traitor, she starts to have some memories awaken. Then Sora enters the fight and Roxas from inside Sora gets to her. This is where Remind comes in Sora from the future who was at the time inside his past self frees the memories of Xion that were inside him and they leave and go to her. That's how she becomes whole and get's her face back.

    I'm not excited for Kingdom Hearts 4. Not the way I was for Kingdom Hearts 3, by a long shot.
    I think that's a painful sign of how the series has lost its focus. It's original flavor and style that everyone loved so much about it. I know there are plenty of folks who would say KH3 is the peak of the series, and I don't disagree regarding certain aspects, but my perspective is from the eyes of a child whose first game was Kingdom Hearts. So maybe I'm biased. But I'm also well versed in what made the games so popular to begin with. After playing literally every game in the series, as I've grown up as a person, and as I've been able to look back on each game and the series as a whole, I've seen a lot. I've parsed the stories of Kingdom Hearts with my own real life experience. I've stacked Kingdom Hearts up against other games I've played all my life. I've listened to hours of analysis by fans and critics alike. So I say what I say here against that backdrop.
    Regardless of what strengths and weaknesses each game has had, as a whole unit, each game has gotten progressively weaker. KH3 has a great visual direction and I think they recaptured a good bit of the classic KH1 world design. It does a good job of fleshing out the present day and connecting it to the Time of Fairytales. But it lacks the ominous mystery and childlike wonder of Kingdom Hearts 1. It lacks the smooth flow of combat we tasted in Kingdom Hearts 2. It lacks the deep, emotional storytelling and character interactions of Days. And even though I think COM and BBS weren't super great, they showed us the creative flexibility and, honestly, boldness of a studio to try new things. All these games presented us with the staple features of Kingdom Hearts. They're what brought people to the table and convinced them to stick around for dessert. The spinoffs, unfortunately, delved too much into the experimentation aspect, in my opinion, and while they got to design a lot of experimental and fun features, they had to get lost in an ever-expanding plot in order to justify every one of those experiments. I believe half of Kingdom Hearts' games could have easily been turned into their own separate IPs, because their plots are so often not inline with Kingdom Hearts as it was presented to people like me who grew up playing the games.
    I still think that the characters deserve to exist. Birth By Sleep and Days added meaningful big characters that we could enjoy and invest in. I'm not saying we need to lop of chunks of the cast in that sense. But post-Days/BBS times, we basically just get introduced to a litany of different Xehanorts with bizarre motives and goals. There are no new characters added, aside from Disney characters as cameos in their respective worlds. And despite the fact that we get no new characters, we're still toyed with for over a decade regarding the characters we DO have. Then, Kingdom Hearts 3. Finally! It's here! The mechanical, graphical peak of the series, the latest on the story, we finally get to see the fates of the characters we've come to love so much!
    These characters interacting with each other in any meaningful way might manage to compose a whole 10% of the game's plot. Most of the rest is "learn how to use this power" without learning how to use the power because, in the end "it was within you all along," which is the absolute worst fucking thing you can ever do to your fan base for so many reasons that I don't have the time to explain here. The mechanics are choppy, floaty, seemingly lacking the promised evolution claimed to echo the growth from KH1 to KH2. And stuffed to the brim, and then some, with odd features that are rarely utilized in any creative ways. The parkour-inspired attraction flow that, ironically, ruins the flow of combat, and is actually less smooth than it was in DDD. The Attractions that force themselves upon the most random of fights and almost never seems to even fit in the situation at all.
    But it does look nice, I guess. I still strongly prefer the classic Kingdom shader from the very first teaser on Destiny Islands. It was colorful, dreamy, and only as detailed as it needed to be. KH3 in Unreal looks bizarrely like a cartoon was glossed over with a thin lacquer of realism, and even though I don't dislike the visual style, it isn't Kingdom Hearts.
    I'm going to take a refrain here to explain that I do, in fact, understand that series that have been alive as long as Kingdom Hearts very often change drastically from what they originally were. I expect an evolution. But this isn't evolution, this is regression. KH3 was, for over a decade, advertised to be the conclusion, the closure, the end-all of our characters' relationships and stories. And they spend fifteen minutes getting that very rushed closure before we're turned back toward the bizarre "it is what it is" of the Master of Masters, ancient Time of Fairytales, that damn black box that perfectly embodies everything that has ruined this series, reality, unreality, and a litany of things that, ultimately, only serve to devalue the characters we first fell in love with. They insist upon the new chapter as the next big thing, without bothering to actually give a proper end to the previous chapter. They HAVE to force in this new storyline, because they've dug themselves into a hole by this point. Regardless of how or why, they've dug themselves into a hole.
    Kingdom Hearts should have ended after 2. Add in 358 for Roxas' sake, because he's awesome, and give BBS a concise ending that doesn't forcefully open a new future.
    Beyond that, it's as I said, the black box represents everything that has caused this series' downfall. The variety of mystery we find in Kingdom Hearts 1 is a childlike wonder, an exploration, an uncertainty that does not drag us down the well of listless theory. It is a mystery that beckons us forth, and promptly gives us what we sought.
    The black box is, quite simply, an unanswered question. Introduced to do nothing more but tempt us into staying on the bandwagon just a little longer, in hopes that maybe the answer will, finally, satisfy us.
    I reiterate: Kingdom Hearts 3 dedicated an hour, at most, of its 30 hours to the story we've spent the better part of 15 years longing for an end to. And then brings the wacky, question-filled confusion and endless theory of the new story back to the spotlight. And if it's not the confusing "Box" story, it's yet another reminder of the power of friendship, and how "It was inside you all along! Nothing about your journey actually helped you!"
    They kill off the entire cast, just to bring them all back immediately, with no actual repercussions. There's no risk. There's nothing at stake. There's nothing to rally against. Xehanort was just a misguided good guy, we promise, even though he tortured about a dozen children in the name of some war and a new world order.
    There's no certainty anymore. Ansem, Seeker of Darkness was a bad guy. Xemnas was a bad guy. Xehanort was a bad guy (at first, at least). I'm not saying we can't grant humanity to our villains. But when we constantly make the audience question who's good and who's bad, we can't be surprised when they find themselves unwilling to root for anyone in particular. I see rumors that Sora has been a villain the whole time. The character we have never had a single reason, not a hint of a motive, to suspect should be our main villain.
    Why do we do this to ourselves?
    I've lost interest in Kingdom Hearts because Kingdom Hearts lost interest in itself. Call me delusional, but I find the world in which Kingdom Hearts' story ended after 2 to be the best outcome. Call me a boomer, biased, whatever, I don't care. I know what I know, and I know that Kingdom Hearts has massively lost itself over the past decade and a half.
