    The Twilight Princess dungeons are hands down the coolest dungeon aesthetics and it was cool how they leaned so hard into their new link items. I bet the development team spent the majority of their time on dungeon development.

      The dungeon quality was really good. I sometimes do miss the over-world thing like Manley Reviews stated, that it's chiefly only for getting rupees. However, Twilight Princess is a really great dungeon crawler, and recognizing that while you play the game makes the fun of Twilight Princess much more clear in sight.

      I long for that in 3D Zelda games again. My favorite 3d Zelda dungeons are the ones in Majora's Mask but TP is a close 2nd. I also liked how much smaller the overworld in Majora's Mask was yet it was full of secrets to find. I've wanted the series to return to that smaller yet fuller world like most of the 2d games and Majora had (though the one exception where I did like a big overworld was in Wind Waker with the vastness of the sea).

    • @ProtoPropski
      @ProtoPropski Год назад +7

      I mean nostalgia is great, but if you take the rose tented glasses off, and try to look at the game objectively what would you think as a person who never played the game before, and has no stance for, or against it.
      At the end of the day nostalgia is great, but getting people into what you like is also great, so you have to be able to lay out the good, and bad, and explain why despite all that you still recommend it because... X, and X.
      For instance I know I love Xenosaga, despite the bad graphics, and choppy voice acting because once the story starts picking up you can get lost in the characters their motivations, the spanning lore, and world building I could go on, but the story is simply a gripping experience.

    I really like the way that Jacob Geller puts it - he says that Twilight Princess is all about power - who wields it, how people claim it and control it. The cutscene of link being warned of the darkness within him is a reflection of what would happen if he sought the triforce, Zant’s crazed rise to power and Midna’s killing him are all evidence of that, and Ganondorf manipulating and ultimately discarding Zant as he returns are all evidence of that theme of “how do you get and use power.” That’s how it distinguishes itself from Ocarina, in that it isn’t a simple hero’s tale to save the kingdom with a plot twist in the middle; it’s a struggle to control as much as possible (or relinquish that control to others).

      I would not say that Ocarina is a simple hero's tale. That's like saying Inception is a movie about falling asleep. 😂
      It is all about growing up. The child Link is forced to grow up, both physically and mentally, by the end of the game. The ending is bittersweet because although the bad guy loses and the heroes win, only Link remembers what happened. He is now stuck in a past that is not his past, probably has PTSD that no one can relate to.
      All of these themes are reinforced or confirmed in Majora's Mask.

      Majoras mask is more about healing which can get pretty deep. Helping those move on which demonstrates his kindness and selflessness more. Link may genuinely be hurt that nobody knows of his accomplishments but his kindness and morality is unshakable.

It was one of the first games I played that made me feel really powerful, and that I can accomplish virtually anything, if I just keep pressing on.

      I agree, I love the twist too. And for Ganondorf's motive, I think it's the same as when he was about to initiate his plan in Ocarina of Time, he was halted, but now he finally gets to enact it. Manley Reviews may have pointed out that a lot of the story was rushed and that some things were accidental or not fully fleshed out. Nonetheless: accidental or no it ended up being a cool tie-in with how Ocarina of Time's timeline paradox eventually created a really bad situation for Hyrule. It also enabled the player to see where the Hero of Time ended up. I just like those elements of continuity between games that aren't simply direct sequels.

    Games like Botw or Skyward Sword represent magic as random energies than can occur at any convenient moment for the sake of looking cool and flashy,
    Twilight Princess on the other hand made magic feel like actual paranormal effects on the world, like when Blizzeta was corrupted by the mirror she didn’t transform by being enshrouded by dark auras or anything generic like that, she was actually twitching like an invisible force was taking over her mind

Bored of the incessant shrines and repetitive koroks after less than an hour. Plus the armor is all pretty useless except for like 2 or three of the outfits. It’s not that helpful and super annoying to change all the time just to do one thing (which isn’t an upgrade from previous games, which it should be). Plus the characters were all pretty empty husks of anime tropes. I kept expecting more fleshed out story and relationships, but it was just Zelda “boohoo, I wanna fulfill my destiny and be validated as independent and intellectual wah”. Not saying other games didn’t suffer from similar story issues, but frankly, BotW didn’t do them any better and was even worse in some aspects. I was pretty unimpressed with Zelda in SS after how kickass she was in TP, and BotW was no different. Zelda bombed (not in a good way) imo as a character. And the world was WAY too empty, as someone who loves exploring open worlds, I was shocked at how monumentally empty the game was compared to its size. Just stopped trying to explore after a while because…what the heck was the point? Such a waste of time just trying to find dumb korok seeds or more rupees, when half the chests are filled with low-level equipment that won’t last long anyway. So disappointing. Outside of the Great Plateau, there just aren't as many viable opportunities to use the powers.
      Stasis and Magnesis are fine. When do you use ice? When water is around, and it's never necessary.
      Everything they did was intentionally to push players away from using traditional melee,which would be great if it all weren't gimmicks.
      But anything you do with the slate and environment typically takes more time and effort to kill foes with. It's a fun gimmick but really, the majority of the slates toys are not that fun to use.
      Bombs and stasis are easily the most useful tools. Anything else is there for style points, and the game doesn't rank your combat on style.
      So unless you post gameplay to TikTok, nobody cares how much slate you used.
      I think the next game needs combat more resembling Hyrule Warriors. Fluid combos. Different combos and chains. Etc.
      Fun experiment, but weapons that shatter constantly to make way for lesser strategies, which the majority of the world design doesn't support... Not great.
      Plus master mode is not fun so much as it is miserable. So that could use work too.
      Having to constantly farm up weapons after a difficult fight is awful. Going to battle with a difficult enemy, like a Llionelle, is a net loss. You break 8 weapons and walk away with very little for the effort.
      I want Hyrule warriors combat mechanics to make it into the next game not 1:1, but enough to enhance the true Zelda combat. Trying to waggle a metal box around to smack a few bokoblins is just not fun combat.
      Rolling a tree down a hill and maybe taking half their health off is not worth the trouble to take twice as long to kill enemies. Using bombs to blast them into water for an easy kill is a neat gimmick, but boring.

    There's a lot of references to magic, spiritual and also occult knowledge in Twilight, which is why it's one of my favourite's in this series, Zelda's always been in a fantasy realm overall, but in this one they seem to draw more upon those references to explain to those who know of these kinda things what has been happening, possibly in their own reality too as Nintendo and their own turmoil with darkness and light, as Art is always a reflection of ones inner feelings.
    They bring in the Earthly realms, the Nether realms and also Higher realms in this sequel, which is the first time they've incorporated another idea of the Trifecta that is
    the Tri-Force.
    Which can explain the random occurrence of Ganon/Ganondorf, that I see as actually quite relevant, to the overall story arc, as he can actually be likened to King Solomon, in what I can see are similarities between them. Which explains the label of a "Demon Thief" as Solomon was said to have been known to possess powers that could make Demons "obey" his commands, used artifacts or enchanted objects like jewellery and Sigils and Symbols for spell casting (which Zelda's always been a Symbolic kind of game) and the likes, he kinda uses Zant's for his own means, as Ganon was captured and held in the higher realms, but banished to the Lower realms where Zant resided and used his own Occult knowledge to work with Zant and Zant's Magical knowledge to plot his own return, as this is what primarily the Zelda's games are about underlining, the Tri-Force and the return of Ganon, (usually), each incarnation of Link shows that he and Link are pretty much destined to repeat the epic struggle of balance, as he is a counterpart and possibly, a necessity to the Tri-Force's power. In this one though, it seems they wanted to make it more focused on the struggle each of them have had to face, including Ganon, as he is more like a lost wondering soul in this one, more than a Villain in power.
    Which when you know of that kind of knowledge, it makes sense why they chose a more realistic look too and you can see how Nintendo incorporates knowledge about reality, magic and that into a fantasy based game, which is pretty neat.
    Sometimes i feel that Nintendo also take more of a break away to explain some more story depth about what Zelda, Ganon's and Link's incarnation represent each time, more than the gameplay itself, which makes TP one of the greatest in my play through of them, maybe lacking some gameplay as even I didn't know they were like "Okay man, now make it play on Wii" lol but Skyward Sword covered what TP missed for that time
    anyways, just thought i'd share that as when you know of it, you can see it quite clearly . . . Kinda like you've shifted realms ;)
    You def 120% Zelda ahah made me laff

      @bificommander7472 Год назад

      Funny, it was my least favorite. I was a bit older when I played it, so maybe that's why the theme felt a bit off to me. You're not actually trying to help the Yetis make the soup IIRC, that just happens by accident as the wife keeps remembering incorrectly where the boss key is, so you stumble unto the ingredients. It felt like a pretty artificial way to unlock more of the level as you play. Not really getting an item, or changing the level to open a new path, but just the game telling you to complete a random path, then the wife going "Oopsie" and unlocking a different door. No reason why she couldn't unlock all doors after remembering it wrong twice, except then the level might get too short.
      And the boss fight comes right out of nowhere too. The mirror turns the wife into an evil monster, just so there can be a boss. This evil power of the mirror was never mentioned before, and never comes up again.
      Personally, I think it would have fitted a bit better in Wind Waker.

I also just liked running around as wolf link, because I'm weird that way and just thought link turning into a fricking wolf was badass. Midnas Lament is also one of the most memorable Zelda songs I have to say.

    • @viljamtheninja
      @viljamtheninja Год назад +3

      @@jrpgplayer I love Twilight Princess, but Ganon was entirely shoehorned in, foreshadowing or not. He did not need to be there. The player, and Midna, had a real antagonistic relationship with Zant. He had genuine compelling motivations. He had had a visible impact on both Hyrule and the Twilight Realm, on Link and Midna personally. Ganon only has a relationship to the player if the player has previously played Zelda games and can say "LOOK AT THAT! I KNOW WHO THAT IS!" and gets to pat himself on the back for being such a rad gamin' dude.
      The end fight with Ganon, while excellent from a gameplay perspective, just felt so much less impactful because we hadn't spent the entire game building up an antagonistic relation with him as we had with Zant - or as we had with Ganon in Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker.

    Twilight princess give me the feels like no other game in the series. The end of Skyward sword kinda forced them on me with fi’s song, but the ark that Midna goes through gives me as much feels as Undertale. I spent hundreds of hours replaying the game just for the story alone. I also came across it at a very vulnerable part of my life as a kid and it helped me get through it. This is my favorite game in the series because the people I meet are so kind and I want to be in that world and live with these people. I felt like I was there in that game every step of the way.

    That Ganon manipulated Zant from the start is something I actually like about the plot. Makes his character even more tragic and for all his badassery early in the game he's quite pathetic. Now unredeemable as a servant to the devil. Easily the most compelling henchman in the series.

    • @wtcvidman
      @wtcvidman Год назад +5

      I think Zant is a pretty tragic figure. I think there was a time when he really wanted to help his people and saw Midna for the spoiled brat that she certainly was at the time (she matured over the course of the game through her experiences) and when he was passed over as the ruler, he felt as if the last chance for his people to return to their rightful home had passed. Ganondorf just used him for his own purposes of course.

    I always felt TP was a nice conclusion to the story arc Ocarina started. While Wind Waker did a great job establishing a new world where Ocarina's events had faded into legend, TP did a great job having narrative similarity to Ocarina, remastering its setting and design and reminding you of past deeds of the hero of time. The final defeat of Ganon after he was sealed away for so long. It felt epic, and climactic, and like the stakes were far higher. At the same time its time shift / asymmetric gameplay mechanic of link / wolf link brought more variety to gameplay than Ocarina's young link / adult link mechanic that, while narratively interesting, mostly just changed your gear limitations and setting more than anything else.
