WOW!!! I am amazed at the engineering that went into the design of this transmission considering that it was designed in the 1930s!!! What they built was a mechanical analog computer powered by hydraulics!
Very nice John ! If you are interested there is a great series at Weber Auto by prof. John Kelly ! Just scroll down and there will be about 4 or 5 vids . Cheers !
My father's '53 Chieftain had a transmission leak. The front seal was bad. He told me it had to be replaced twice, but after that, it didn't leak anymore.
Hola John Dogg, Tengo 2 transmiciones 1954 y 1955 oldmobile Hydra-Matic, nesesitan ser reparadas, me qustaria saver si usted podria aser ese trabajo para mi?
Thanks John great work you have obviously done quite a few hydro- matics. I am assembling one from my 1953 Lincoln and can not get any end play on the imput shaft. Did you say that is normal?
Awesome ! So technically I can use this video tutor to rebuild mine and everything will be exactly the Same? You should know if its off in anyway I'll be lost. This will be my first attempt to rebuild a transmission of any nature. As long as it's exactly like your excellent video I think I can do it except I don't have a few tools I noticed you used. Also knowing I plan to change everything possible in it can you recommend the best full kit supplier that I can order a complete kit from?
Thanks John. Did they vary from year to year or was the engineering that good from the beginning? Also, looking to import a 48 Olds to Aust - is there any asbestos in the clutch discs?
Great work John. A couple of questions, you do add a ball bearing to the clutch springs, do they have an specific diameter? Does the spring you change come from which transmission model? Thanks
John Dodd where's that number? is it the complete number? International direct call? Or do I dial something first? How much is your kit I'll need an amount. Don't want to waste your time if I'm short the mulah :) . Did you get a chance to see my daughter's build project on that link I sent you?
Okay? Okay? No, no, no! Okay? Okay? No, no, no.... The giant question of the century, "How man are there, eight?" We have a giant mismatch of two people on two different planets.
Hi John, been watching your amazing rebuild. Awesome thank you. The ball bearing mod, where are they from and what size? I'm starting my strip and build soon and getting as much info as I can. I have a 55 Olds dual range tranny
The Pontiac Oldsmobile Cadillac Early Lincolns 1939 Cadillac and Oldsmobile 1947 onwards `Pontiac. The transmission was basically the Same Rolls Royce and Bentley used the Hydramatic 1951 until 1965 1976 Rolls Royce Phantom 6
