I love it! I made a kitsune homebrew race for one of my players in my last campaign. I tied the number of tails to character level, opening up new abilities to charm or cast Illusions. The player was the heiress to a ninja clan and ended up as the consort and champion of the God of Secrets in my campaign world.

As a person of Chinese descent, I have a deep love of the Huli Jing. The Spirit Fox has a very significant place in our culture.
I loved this video. Thank you very much. Subscribed!

After kitsunes you can do tanukiweres that eat people's livers.

are tanukiweres the same as tanuki? the ones with the giant nut sacks that they use as cloaks, boats, etc?

    • @ckmishn3664
      @ckmishn3664 2 года назад +3

It's not that "tanukiwere" is an actual name, but rather I'm referring to a story of a "tanuki" that shape changed and was trapped in human form. It's an old yokai story referenced in an episode of "Requiem from the Darkness".
If an animal shape changes into a human, it's my understanding you postfix "were", while if a human changes into an animal, you use "were" as a prefix.

Hey, arcane forge, I have a most wonderful suggestion for you, namely cynocephali, the dog men of medieval lore. I think you will have a great time covering them and I think that they would make for a fine player race

Nice. In my world the humanoid Kitsune come from the severed of the animal kitsune and unlike the other Beastfolk (an umbrella term for all the animal based player species) they came into the mortal realm during the silver age along with Cenataurs and Satyrs.
PS: I’ve got another Alice in Wonderland creature for you called the Snark.

    • @ArcaneForge
      @ArcaneForge  2 года назад +2

I love the connection to other beast folk and Snarks sound like a great deal! Knowing very little about them, I'm picturing some sort of bird-like shark, but I'm sure they'll make a great video!
      Cheers for watching!

Ze’d been searching for her, wanting nothing more than to understand what in the world this creature was. Ze found out, now ze wanted to be done with it.
Before zer stood a creature which looked awfully a lot like a fetching kitsune in humanoid shape, yet ze knew this wasn’t at all what stood before zer. “What are you?” Ze asked, fur standing on end as the creature sat with the stillness of canyon walls.
Up and behind the disguised vulpine, zer target had moved with such fluidity as to appear like it was made of water. “I’m power.” Said the creature, examining zer hair in idle appreciation for zer appearance.
Flinching away didn’t do much to ease zer growing concern. “And what does that mean?!” Ze pressed in readiness for violent discourse.
“It means I’m inescapable.” Furthered this creature which never ceased to wear that amused grin, such an expression looking uncanny across its face. No limb seemed unnaturally long, no hair out of place, as if designed to appear normal yet beautiful. That’s what set off the adventurer’s want to flee, disguise faltering so as to let the bipedal fox reveal zerself in all zer beauty. Such radiant fur~ “Why do you hide yourself? There’s no need for disguises here!”
“I could say the same about you!” Was the fur-covered being’s reply, watching how zer target was seemingly transmogrified into the same form as zerself. Such exquisite fur of reddish orange greeted zer eyes yet there was no question, it didn’t belong to this shape and was simply copying.
“Oh?” It began, head tilting just a little too far to the left. “What do you see? Do I look like someone you know?” The wonder in its voice said just how much it didn’t know what ze saw.
A pregnant quiet fell upon the kitsune, the Master of Madness doing nothing to hurry things along. It knew there was no way to win without a losing battle for the beautiful fox before it. “…My representative in the Seelie Court…”
“Awww,” It chuckled in amusement. “How lovely~”
“Stop wearing that disguise! Show me the real you!!” Snarled the vulpine badass, zer teeth borne to teach it a lesson.
“And yet I am~” Sang the Daelkyr, an eye extending toff a stalk to look all around the place while a snake-long tongue snuck around its teeth to catch something behind its head. From under its shirt reached two other appendages which looked like hands yet clearly weren’t. “Anything familiar you’re seeing is what you want to see~ As I’ve come to understand, you mortals don’t have what it takes to handle my people’s stunning good looks~”
“Mortal?! I’ve outlived monarchies and feudal societies! How dare you!!!” Snarled the newly enlightened kitsune, quickly finding zerself face to face with this creature which had so leglessly slipped to stand directly in front of zer. Just like that did the Fox’s growl die in zer throat, seeing in Daelkyr eyes what eternity looked like.
“What you call time, I call a suggestion.” It began. “I’m not dominated by the forces of reality, as I’m above them! Even devils and gods of these worlds must obey such arbitrary rules,” As it spoke, the creature stepped a leg up into plain air and found purchase on something that didn’t exist on this layer of reality, stepping up until it was walking upside down in the air itself. “But I don’t have to do that. Nobody should have to do that! These rules are pointless, don’t you see? Why follow rules shaped by a universe that doesn’t even try, when you can enjoy Xoriat-The Realm where anything is possible!!” As it spoke, the kitsune started to see what it did.
Nothing was real, not the walls or the Ceiling or the floor, just a bunch of gravity wells which were stabilized enough to maneuver around this void between galaxies. This was a fraction of Xoriat which had been pulled into the creature’s domain, bringing zer to see creatures which defied all that ze could’ve ever known. The nature of the Fey suddenly came into doubt as the kitsune examined all that ze was, finding zerself to be deteriorating and reconstituting as something different, proof that the Fey being was temporary at all times and was prone to transition based on the energies and emotions which found their way into a Fey’s life. What was the kitsune becoming? Unknown, but it was too late to stop this process.
“You’ll make a wonderful aberration~” Sang the Daelkyr, making zer offer a scoff and a grin, only to start laughing as tears fell out of those bewitching eyes.
“You’re erasing me!!” Ze cackled in hysteria, unable to do anything more than sob and laugh in the same action, the layers of reality splitting these two actions into entirely different entities. From the sobs grew a creature made of tails to hide its tearstricken face, while laughter became a horde of jaws to snap out raucous amusement.
Suddenly, the kitsune was whole again, no longer tear-stricken nor cackling. “Not erasing you, no! I’m just reusing you. Each part of your body can become something new! Just look at your fur, that could become a living weave with space, and your teeth would make wonderful chandeliers~”
“What about my organs? My heart?”
“A slip and slide with the softest pillow at its end.” Answered the creature with weird terms in mind.
    “And my tongue?”
    “The fists of a bear.”
    “My throat.”
“Chop chop, I’ll have a special knife.”
“How can you use my bones?”
“Name a device, your bones will be something better, believe me.” And so it continued as ze heard all the ways zer body was begging to be broken down and reused into new, aberrant shapes.
