@@jaredduncan8495 don't really even need scarf in this, with max hp you tank basically anything cuz you've got opposing poke with basically 3.5x as much hp and if you give it lefties or smth it's just a lot better imo.
@@PJOZeus I mean, yes and no, some mons just need one stat to be supercharged to go from mid to busted or to knock out a particular weakness, like imagine Blissey with max defense or a slow powerhouse like Rhyperior with max speed. A challenge like this is a good way to overcome the weaknesses of certain Pokemon that just happen to be lacking in certain areas, though amplifying their best qualities isn't a terrible idea, it's just that doing so is ignoring some other really interesting possibilities (though obviously you wouldn't want to arbitrarily enhance stats either, not much point in maxing out the special attack of a physical attacker after all.)
This was a cool idea but it actually made me realise you could use a similar one for a regular "then we battle" video. Why not - before seeing your starters - declare a stat and you must take whichever starter is best in that stat. EG: Round one you declare "attack" - then turn around and whichever has the highest attack stat you must take it (if it's a tie you choose) and then you've used attack and can't use it again. After doing this once for each stat you have your team.

6:30 IMO Sceptile here with 255 Atk is always really strong - Sceptile has an extremely diverse physical movepool, but it's normally super restricted by its shiste Atk stat. At base 255 Atk, you give it Sash + Unburden (or some other way to abuse Unburden), you can run something like Trailblaze + Acrobatics + Drain Punch (for if like hazards break your sash and it answers steels) + Thunder Punch, with Quick Attack, Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, Leaf Blade, and Earthquake all being great options as well. Alternatively, if you want to do something really off the wall, you could instead go Endure + Liechi Berry to guarantee an Unburden proc and get +1 Atk. Edit: Oh also, you'll probably realize this during the battle, but Leech Seed takes a set percentage of your opponent's HP and gives it to you. That means that you gain a flat amount of HP based on your opponent's HP stat, not your own. What I'm getting at here is that you'll barely notice the healing from Leech Seed on Venu unless you Leech Seed their max HP mon. (Wish works similarly where it gives half of the Wish user's HP stat to the mon receiving the Wish, meaning that Wish passing sucks when done by low HP stat mons, even if they have really good defenses).
I really think due to the format in which starters were chosen it made this the most competitive and entertaining then we fight video yet across all the boys channels.
Love these videos! Just a heads up guys, I looked it up during the video and Black sludge for a poison type like Venusaur is better than left overs but not by a huge margin. Just friendly facts 😁
It heals the same. It's better only because if it's tricked by an opponent it won't heal them if they aren't a poison type themselves but will hurt them instead each turn. It frees lefties for your other mons It's a minor precaution but then again you never know what might happen.
Only reason black sludge is *technically* better is in case a pokemon uses trick on venusaur. (And also if they're doing item clause (which they weren't since tobin had 2 specs pokes) then black sludge lets you put lefties on smth else.)
27:04 Dylan saying he got everything right when he pretty much got everything wrong is hilarious. I get it's hard to jump to conclussions with the given information though
I hope we see more videos like this in the future. They're many great options for all these stats in both Sw/Sh and Sc/Vi. Here's some from each stat that would either stand out or be fun for me personally. HP-Shadinja, Shuckle, and Ditto ATK-Tinkaton, Jirachi, Mightyena, or any other physical attacker who needs a better ATK stat DEF-Blissey, Assault Vesters, and Eviolite mons SP-ATK - Mew, Porygon 2, and Sheerforcers SP-DEF - Kartana, Assult Vesters, and Eviolite mons like DEF SD-Dracovish, Arctizolt, and Pokémon with few good priority moves Some of these can be swapped around like Dracovish into ATK or Mightyena into Speed, but I feel these could be fun.
i have an idea for a future video! you blindly choose your starter and you get to rearrange the bst of the final evolution (with some rules like min. 50 in each max. 150)
The fact Dylan didn't pick the best competitive pokemon of all time is kind of insane. Excadril is good and all, but Incineroar is the best ever, even if this is singles.
Having physical and special coverage really could have mattered here. If gothitelle carried psyshock, it could have sent kabutops back into extinction. Defensive mons are hard to gauge, so having some kind of way around it is worth it.
Saw someone else do this, so I figured I'd do the same - here's what I'd have done for each person's options: Tobin: - *Rhyperior* with max *Spe* - Rhyperior hits like a truck, and it also takes (physical) hits like a truck. I could see giving this SpD to eat for days, but I'd go max Spe and run Earthquake, Rock Blast, Heat Crash, and Swords Dance, with a Weakness Policy as the item (I could also see Lum Berry though) and Solid Rock as the ability. - *Ditto* - Ditto, Ditto, Ditto. Genuinely how do you not take Ditto here. Oh also max *HP* and a Choice Scarf if that really needed to be said. I've played a lot of Balanced Hackmons in the past, and Scarf Imposter Blissey/Eviolite Imposter Chansey are both always prominent threats in Hackmons. 255 HP Scarf Ditto is literally that, and the potential for a sweep after copying their 255 Atk/SpA stat mon is unmatched. - Drifblim has an incredibly high HP stat, so I could see giving it either defensive stat to have a very bulky mon that can potentially use Baton Pass. However, I think *Cloyster* with max *SpD* is correct here. The defensive stats seem harder to find a good spot for to me, so I'd be ecstatic to find a good use for one here. I'd run Shell Armor with Spikes, Toxic, Avalanche, and Teleport with Leftovers, although I could also see a Light Clay set with Reflect and Light Screen replacing Spikes and either Toxic or Avalanche. Ditto also helps enable you to have a very passive mon because Ditto is incredible at punishing set-up sweepers, which normally steamroll passive mons. - Max Attack Moxie Salamence here is actually kinda tempting, but I do agree that *Landorus-I* is correct. I would buff *SpA* though, as Sheer Force Life Orb Lando-I already hits like a truck, and that's with only a 115 base SpA. With Earth Power, Sludge Bomb, Substitute, and Rock Polish on a Sheer Force Life Orb set, you can wallbreak quite well and threaten to sweep with Rock Polish. Just make sure to give it a final HP stat that isn't divisible by four so you can Sub four times. - I mentioned this in a previous comment, but I'd go *Sceptile* here with max *Atk* any day of the week. Sceptile has a great physical movepool and Unburden gives it so much potential, all of which is normally held back by its 85 base Atk. I'd run Unburden Focus Sash Sceptile with Leaf Blade, Acrobatics, Drain Punch, and Swords Dance. If I wanted more spice though, I'd run Bullet Seed over Leaf Blade to break through Focus Sashes and Substitutes. - The stat I have left here is *Def,* so I'd pick *Primarina.* Now, the set I have in mind is not good, per se, but it is really funny when it works. I would run a Primarina with Whirlpool, Perish Song, Protect, and Rest with a Chesto Berry. One might argue that I'm spending too much time in the kitchen, and one might be right, but one cannot talk me out of Chesto Resto Perish Trap. I would just like to say that if Speed was the final stat to use though, I would be advocating for Belly Drum Charizard every day of the week. Dylan: - Assuming that's an Uxie in the middle, I'd go *Uxie* with max *HP* - Uxie has great defenses already, so a good HP stat will work wonders. I see two ways to take an Uxie set, the first being a more generic defensive mon with Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Rest, and Foul Play, while holding a Leftovers. The second is much spicier though, being Nasty Plot, Baton Pass, Light Screen, and Reflect, while holding a Light Clay. Both sets seem strong to me, but I personally lean towards the second one (assuming you guys are chill with Baton Pass sets). - I agree that all three are great here, and I can't fault you for taking Exca. I personally can't pass up on Incin here though, so I'd go *Incineroar* with max *SpD* and Intimidate as the ability. I would run Will-O-Wisp, Knock Off, Taunt, and Parting Shot with Leftovers (I could see Heavy-Duty Boots though) to have an extremely versatile defensive pivot that can easily win you back tempo. - Copy-pasting what I said for Tobin: I'd go *Sceptile* here with max *Atk* any day of the week. - *Tapu Koko* and max *SpA* all the way, I'm 100% with you on this one. One quick note though - Koko doesn't get Moonblast, so you'd have to settle for Dazzling Gleam instead. Also, with Scarf, you don't actually outspeed their Max Speed mon (assuming they have even a bit of Spe investment), so I'd go Specs Koko with the same moves that you chose (besides Dazzling Gleam over Moonblast). - While I like the look of Kyurem here, I've sadly only got Spe and Def left. I would therefore grab a *Celebi* here with max *Def,* and I would run Recover, U-turn, Toxic, and Stealth Rock with Leftovers. At base 100 HP, it should be very bulky, and while I'm not liking the 4x weakness to opposing U-turns, Celebi's reliable recovery is extremely nice. I would also run minimum Spe to hopefully be able to get a slow U-turn off for tempo. - The stat I have left here is *Spe,* so I'd pick *Swoobat.* It sucks to pass up Dragapult, and both Kyurem and Pult are making me regret having spent SpA on Koko (Pult especially has crazy Special coverage), but I think a 255 Spe Nasty Plot (or CM if you want) Swoobat can really easily win out of nowhere. I would run Simple Swoobat with Nasty Plot, Stored Power, Heat Wave, and Air Slash (in case I need to fish for flinches), and I'd give it a Focus Sash. With the teams I've built, I think Tobin usually wins due to Ditto. Dylan's Sceptile is normally great at sweeping through Ditto (because Ditto doesn't copy Unburden's Speed Boost), but Tobin has his own Sceptile to usually give him a 50/50 chance of stopping Dylan's Sceptile sweep (and then potentially just reverse sweeping). Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I love that you have some videos where you mute the opponent and try to guess what their thinking without them giving hints. You have to do one of these with Shady. The mind games would be crazy.
I kinda wished someone had gotten a Pokémon with a good Special move pool but no Special Attack to finally make it work :D Nobody would expect a Gyarados to hit with devastating Thunderbolts
I think it would be interesting if you did this style again but throughout the battle if you call out the persons boosted stat correctly, they have to tell you what their next move is or something. It’s so easy to mix up HP for D/SpD so it would be difficult. Maybe you only get to call each stat once and if it’s wrong the person doesn’t tell you anything so you can’t cross anything off the list?
Would have done max def or spdef on Venusaur, because Leech Seed scales to the opponent's HP. The more max HP you have, the less of a % of that HP you get back from Leech Seed.
You picked kabutops over uxie with 255 special attack! Such a bulky pokemon, pretty fast as well. Man this game idea is amazing, so many different things to do! Okay it was the first pick of stat, I thought you would have to choose in the end, it makes sense to think a bit about it
Super cool idea and video😁👍! A couple things I would’ve changed(everyone’s a critic, right?) Pokemon at level 50 with best, objectively, natures and double the highest stat but half the lowest stat🤔. Also, have a pencil and paper next to you so you can guess which stats(in this case) you would guess right! I’m not saying there’d be a reward for guessing right or wrong, aside from pride lol. Dylan was really spot on in this video which kinda surprised me! I definitely wouldn’t have been able to guess those. I also wouldn’t have chosen to raise the same stats. Pokemon players come in all shapes and sizes. 😉
Making one stat be lowest is kinda useless. Could get Calyrex-Shadow and then they just say "I'm gonna nerf my Attack for this one." and they basically just get a buffed calyrex-shadow (buffed since lower attack makes you take less from foul play.)
I usually don't like regular human names for pokemon, but Jared on Venasaur kinda fits. Its like when your Uncle goes by his middle name cause his first name is Venasaur

Love this style of video, where you each have a moment to talk through your decisions and how you built the pokemon. ❤
Maxed out defense blissey is the first thing I immediately thought of when the rules were read out and I got shivers
One of my favourite videos of the random starters series, it was so interesting to see you guys go into so much details about the strategy!
It frees lefties for your other mons
It's a minor precaution but then again you never know what might happen.
Only reason black sludge is *technically* better is in case a pokemon uses trick on venusaur. (And also if they're doing item clause (which they weren't since tobin had 2 specs pokes) then black sludge lets you put lefties on smth else.)
I like when yall can talk while playing
I'm always happy to see my friend Maractus. Not a great or popular mon, but it's too precious for how rarely it's been in game.
YOU LIVE AND LEARN!

Lack of a bleep at 30:38 caught me off guard.
27:04 Dylan saying he got everything right when he pretty much got everything wrong is hilarious. I get it's hard to jump to conclussions with the given information though
I love love loved this format. All the bois should run videos like this.
2:50 no disrespect cuz i love tobin, but he literally picked the single worst option there lmao
Shedinja with Max HP would’ve been HYSTERICAL
26:30 no Xs on the dead mons
Either way keep up the great work editors, Tobin, and Dylan
the "it's gonna do a lot... please" from Tobin has been killing me for like 20 minutes lololol
I hope we see more videos like this in the future. They're many great options for all these stats in both Sw/Sh and Sc/Vi. Here's some from each stat that would either stand out or be fun for me personally.
HP-Shadinja, Shuckle, and Ditto
ATK-Tinkaton, Jirachi, Mightyena, or any other physical attacker who needs a better ATK stat
DEF-Blissey, Assault Vesters, and Eviolite mons
SP-ATK - Mew, Porygon 2, and Sheerforcers
SP-DEF - Kartana, Assult Vesters, and Eviolite mons like DEF
SD-Dracovish, Arctizolt, and Pokémon with few good priority moves
Some of these can be swapped around like Dracovish into ATK or Mightyena into Speed, but I feel these could be fun.
mamoswine and landorus "You have one ground type for my immunity on volt switch"
"I wish electric terrain woke me up." It does. Landorus is a flying type.
Not cause it's flying but cause it's already asleep before the terrain was active
@@Night_Sky-u3pif terrain comes up, asleep Pokémon also wake up. It is because it’s flying.
Dylan : “I got all of these right” has absolutely none of them guessed correctly 😂😂
I really feel the “I’ve missed you” from Tobin 😂
"I don't want to risk it"
This guy has the npc gameplan 😂 no predictions allowed
i have an idea for a future video! you blindly choose your starter and you get to rearrange the bst of the final evolution (with some rules like min. 50 in each max. 150)
Very happy to see you still doing a lot of amazing videos! Hope you keep having more success in the future! 😄
The fact Dylan didn't pick the best competitive pokemon of all time is kind of insane. Excadril is good and all, but Incineroar is the best ever, even if this is singles.
4:23 NOTHING is better than Reese’s!
Having physical and special coverage really could have mattered here. If gothitelle carried psyshock, it could have sent kabutops back into extinction.
Defensive mons are hard to gauge, so having some kind of way around it is worth it.
Saw someone else do this, so I figured I'd do the same - here's what I'd have done for each person's options:
Tobin:
- *Rhyperior* with max *Spe* - Rhyperior hits like a truck, and it also takes (physical) hits like a truck.
Dylan:
- Assuming that's an Uxie in the middle, I'd go *Uxie* with max *HP* - Uxie has great defenses already, so a good HP stat will work wonders.
I really liked this video idea! Would love to see this again
I love that you have some videos where you mute the opponent and try to guess what their thinking without them giving hints. You have to do one of these with Shady. The mind games would be crazy.
I feel like Tobin forgot that the video’s gimmick applies to both players
I kinda wished someone had gotten a Pokémon with a good Special move pool but no Special Attack to finally make it work :D
Nobody would expect a Gyarados to hit with devastating Thunderbolts
now imagine blissy with max hp and max Defence... that thing would be a god
Damn, Dylan was playing 4D chess in this one. Didn’t even have to use half of his team.
Dylan thinking he figured out all the stats was tooo funny.
Amazing mind games in this one!
I like this type of video it’s slightly different from the norm everyone does but gives that homie vibe ❤
That little graphic with the mons over their stat was so clutch
I would love to see someone fuse blissey and shuckle with stamina lol since I just watch the fusion video with dussy
You've all heard of dussy, now get ready for SHUSSY!!!
(We need to see which one would win in a 1v1)
@@alicedodobirb2808 I feel like the winner of that is whoever has the bigger PP lol.
More of this rule set please! Great video!
this idea would be so scary with shuckle raising his attack to the max
Hear me out, DUSSY with max hp would be hilarious
Why is no one talking about Tobin and Dylan getting the treecko line in the same slot😂😂😂😂
Tobin using the wrong “you’re” on Gothitelle is giving me a visceral reaction of discontent.
Tobin didn't use his brain the entire fight lmao
THIS WAS AMAZING...... I want you to do this with Shady so bad
Would have done max def or spdef on Venusaur, because Leech Seed scales to the opponent's HP. The more max HP you have, the less of a % of that HP you get back from Leech Seed.
Dude didn’t even need to bring out the Kyruem sat in the back 😂
You picked kabutops over uxie with 255 special attack! Such a bulky pokemon, pretty fast as well. Man this game idea is amazing, so many different things to do!
Okay it was the first pick of stat, I thought you would have to choose in the end, it makes sense to think a bit about it
Dylan thinking he got everything right with what Tobin chose for stats is insanely funny to me 😂
If I had a nickel for every time Tobin pivoted in a Then We Battle, I could buy a new house.
Loved this video. I would like to see this one more. Thank you.
2:52 Huge miss Max Hp Imposter Ditto would be awesome!!
I need more videos like this. Dylan, if you read this, make another please 🙏🏻
It makes me happy that we all thought of shuckle
“I actually got all of these right” after making almost every guess wrong
This felt like Bill and Ted's Pokémon Adventure
Venusaur putting in work again. 😅
What a great video!
next time could you randomize the stats you max out or reverse it where you make 1 stat the lowest you can
Making one stat be lowest is kinda useless. Could get Calyrex-Shadow and then they just say "I'm gonna nerf my Attack for this one." and they basically just get a buffed calyrex-shadow (buffed since lower attack makes you take less from foul play.)
@@albedo2433 i am just suggesting things idk how broken/bad something might turn out i just wanna see some funny things happen
I usually don't like regular human names for pokemon, but Jared on Venasaur kinda fits. Its like when your Uncle goes by his middle name cause his first name is Venasaur
"hoping he doesn't have a ground type" Tobin after getting mamoswine and landerous: 😏
This was a GREAT idea!
You guys should take more formats from Pokémon showdown OMs! I would love to see you guys try things like inheritance, full potential, and all those fun formats
