Folks, this ain't complicated. ExtraEmily is a great entertaining streamer, but she is also an only child who has repeatedly shown extremely self centered behavior. From voting for herself on every award to not thinking rules of businesses apply to her (specifically about filming) to ignoring traffic laws and never expecting consequences. From trying to weasel her way out of bets she lost to practically ruining her friends pool and backyard and not offering to help clean until he forced the issue... stuff like that over and over again.
I dunno why people are so surprised, most streamer are like that. You have to have a somewhat self serving/self centered personality to get into the big levels of streaming. Just look at most big streamers, they're all about themselves most of the time, with some exception, but it's rare.

@MK_2023. she said they were broke, not they are broke (she in literal terms said 'we almost broke' in broken english, leaving ambiguity). And in this same video Emily points out they are financially doing fine. This is a personal issue between them and they don't really need the money. It's spite to make her pay back when they aren't broke now. Emily doesn't deserve condemnation for this, it's her personal relationship and complicated issue. My asian parents also went almost broke paying for my brother but they would never ever ask him to pay back even if he can afford it. In asian culture it's understood that parents don't need to be paid back. And in asian families. Parents push for ivy leagues to and willingly pay for college. They wouldn't have asked her money back if she did STEM job. It's pure asian parent nonsense and Emily is in her right within that cultural framework to push back on this bullshit.

It didn’t go TOO in depth, but she was constantly on the verge of tears whenever her parents were brought up, then she’d flip a switch and suppress it and be all bubbly to hide it. Basically the idea I got was she was always trying to be good enough for them, overachiever, wasn’t ever perfect enough, did very well in school, then she finally made it big as a streamer and now they want the money back. I can imagine for her she’s like “well at least give me something, like I was pushed to the limit, succeeded, all at the expense of my happiness, the least you could do is consider this the ONE thing I leave the nest with rather than it be transactional with a net 0 gain as if I was never your daughter to begin with.” Some big guesses, but like, I could see it.

it's obviously just spoiled mentality. She is self centred if you watch the stuff she does. She thinks she should get everything she wants. All her parents fault FYI so her not wanting to pay them back is their own doing.
Even if she does have a toxic relationship with her parents she would be better off to pay them back and put it behind her so they dont have that over her anymore. Especially given her income, 170k isn't all that much.
These comments are so misguided. College for their child was an investment. EE's education comes through in her wit, and her commitment to streaming and trying to raise the bar is a reflection of what hard work to get to an Ivey League school looks like. The parents should have taken out Parent Plus loans that had her name on it if they always intended for her to pay them back. If she paid them , it would just come back to her in inheritance.
What surprised me the most was how shocked she was when she read the chat and how Nick and Arther reacted to it. Her mood changed quickly when she realized that most people couldnt understand her decission not to pay her parents back. And she talked about it like its totally normal to act like that...
The thing with Emily is that she could pay them back AND give them gifts. Instead she enjoys letting them "wait" for gifts from time to time. Which is not very good. If you are able to make them "independent from you and your gifts" then make them. They also have rights. nick was on point, she said "they don'"t need it" he said "YOU don't need it"!
I sort of get where her mind is - it seems like all of her life her parents envisioned her life as they saw fit and never took into consideration her thoughts on how it should go so she feels conflicted by the idea that yes, they provided everything for her, but never considered her thoughts on anything, which likely led to a lot conflict at home and a ton of resentment from being guilted into a life she felt powerless to direct. They pretty much spoiled her into their vision for her life in what they believed would bring success without considering her input simply because she’s the child and they believe “know better” being parents and adults. This is a common cultural issue regarding familial hierarchies and education in Chinese culture.
For me the only question I have is, are her parents independently wealthy? Is the 140k a matter of them literally gutting their retirement funds to send her to college. If not, then whatever, rich people problems. If it is the latter though; yeah thats screwed up. I've decided not to be super reactionary lately when it comes to controversy cause we're rarely ever getting all sides of a story.
They were not wealthy, middle class, and they did take all their savings to help her go to an Ivy league (she got accepted with 50% scholarship.) They still had retirement and had their own average midwestern home, but beyond that, the 140k was everything else they had at the time and they worked hard to get that money. However, Emily does take care of them financially and so they are no longer middle class, and so people acting as if she is failing her parents are ridiculous.

It's very understandable how most Asian viewers and others would side with her parents on the matter. It's the culture. It's the morally right decision. She chose the expensive school. They struggled while trying to keep her in that school. They may never forgive her for it, however, repaying the agreed upon loan would set things back towards the right direction. They may still make fun of her for it, like most Asian parents do but at least she'll get to say I paid it back instead of not doing it out of spite.

I don’t know Emily or her personal situation with her parents. Speaking from personal experience though, my Chinese ex was the same way. Never worked a real job in her life. Her brother-in-law paid her whole way through college at Boston University. So the way she acted with money is like nothing I had ever seen before. Her parents were struggling so much and she didn’t want to help at all. Didn’t feel the need to pay her brother-in-law back when they were also having financial problems. All this and still her hard working mom was always putting money in the bank for her daughter’s savings account. Had no respect for her parents at all. Not saying that every Chinese girl is like this, but a lot of them are coddled like this from birth. Also before I get attacked I’m saying ANYONE can be like this when not taught the value of a dollar. or even taught how to actually care for your parents instead of thinking they should pay for everything and just use them as a stepping stone in life.
Absolutely disgusting. You have such loving parents who payed 170k for your education. You're not using your degree and most likely earn enough to pay them back easily in increments. Just very ungrateful and childish.
No sympathy for Emily OR her parents. I don't understand how you can afford a 140k tuition and then say you're almost broke, like did you forget how you made that money in the first place? Then you got Emily making top tier streamer money, 140k has to be a drop in the bucket to her, right? These people have clearly never actually been broke before since they have time to have this discussion rather than actively earning money. Her parents chose to put her through school and pay for it, Emily chose to accept that and throw it away. They're both in the wrong here.
Twitter is the real world, people are able to show their true self and Emily if she can't handle her fans and enemies then she cannot face the world when push comes to pull, she will live in that bubble where everyone comforts her and she gets her ways.
im sure if we all knew the real story behind the scenes we would (probably) completely understand why she doesn't want to pay them back but because we dont have any of the context or backstory (because she doesnt want to say it) she forsure is 100% wrong in this situation unless she goes into detail about it. In situations where you cant speak on it its better to just avoid the subject instead of making yourself look worse. People just straight up guessing about the situation like its a fanfic isnt helping either
Simp keep that bull shit to yourself. She went to the university it didn’t work out, she got rich off streaming and is in a position to pay them back she should it’s the principal.
She kind of makes it known that they only asked to be paid back after Emily started making big money from streaming. That shows you kind of that her parents were the typical asian parents forcing their kids to do things they don't want to do and claiming its all for their benefit. The contract she talks about was not before she went, if it were I would see how she would totally be in the wrong. Sending your kids off to expensive colleges because you can, because you can than tell everyone my daughter is going to Columbia, blablabla, than expecting them to pay it back after they quit and are successful in doing something they wanted to do in the first place is ridiculous. People keep saying if not for her parents she would never be a successful streamer, well I am sure they were not happy and told her she has to get a normal job, if she listened to them she wouldn't be a millionaire. I think a very large reason she has a childlike personality is a defense mechanism from her parents, not just a stream persona.
You are doing the same-- assuming she has a good reason to violate the agreement she made with her parents to pay 14k every year. No matter what could be going on that is the agreement she made and hasn't abided by. Are you just a fan using fake empathy to assume that she has to be right when the only information we have is that (1) she agreed to pay it back 14k/yr (2) she has the means to pay it back (3) She refuses to pay it back.

I was against Emily until that very last comment someone made about Emily’s situation. I grew up in an area with many Asians and their parents were often extremely harsh on them and the Asians I knew had a deep resentment towards their parents. I think the situation is a lot more complicated and we’d not tons of more info before we can really say but chances are we will never know what her relationship is with her parents.
It's a means to an end. She grew up in Alaska where she was one of the only Chinese kids and felt singled out. I guarantee she is one of those "why can't I be like those other white kids with a more carefree life?" Asian child. While we want to talk about harsh parents she was still able to go to an Ivy league school which btw will set their graduates for life with their connections. If she knew she was going to do this streaming gig why bother having her parents pay for all of it then?
But have u ever questioned why they act so harsh? Most of them are immigrants who sacrificed a lot so that their kids could be raised in a better place so their expectations for their kids are really high. I'm not saying these parents' actions are right but u have to understand their pov. It really just boils down to them wanting the best for their kids Just my 2 cents
This just goes to show how garbage a lot of streamers are. I mean come on, you make millions of dollars and you won't pay them back for the college you chose to go to and not use. It also shows the lack of morals in this generation. All around what a garbage human being.
Emily has always put on a Happy-Go-Lucky type of attitude on stream but with people who seem to always be happy, smiling and childish are usually terrible people on the inside and off-stream.
I feel like Emily did the thing, she graduated, unless they already had a previous agreement that she would pay it back, she did what she was supposed to do, her not using the degree shouldnt dictate weather you "wasted money", a lot of people cant even find a job in the field they study for so if they were given money from their parents to go to school they to should be forced to pay it back? She sends them on vacations buys them gifts shes doing the things a good daughter is supposed to do, unless there was an agreement from before she went to school that I missed somewhere along the lines her parents might be assholes, I dont care if shes rich, her parents do not look dirt poor to me at all quite the opposite actually, her mom said they were going broke because she knew it would put emily's audience on their side, borderline blackmail, pretty fucked thing for parents to do IMO.
cant speak for EE but i used to hold a grunge against paying my parents until i realized I didnt have to pay them. i was more upset that they demanded money lol sounds crazy but I ended up wanting to pay them with the understanding of what it takes to make it in life on your own.
I owed my mother 12k and worked myself to the bone to pay it off last year cuz i was so embarrassed about owing so much. If i owed that much, id pay it all at once and just budget till i was back to normal.
I'm a firm believer of never having to pay your parents back unless you are more than financially capable, which in this case, Emily can most definitely shell out. I personally dislike this whole witch hunt mentality, but im also not surprised. That's why you dont overshare unless youre ready for the backlash 😂
Probably had a bad experience with school due to strict parenting and expectations, hence she feels bitter. Maybe due to the fact that she made a career from something her parents didn't approve of and now they are expecting the money back. This is ultimately what tough parenting and conditional love brings. I myself experienced a similar upbringing with school, still I recognise that my parents did it out of love and desperation for me to have a good future. So I hope that I can repay them (even though they would never demand it).
I don't know the full story/relationship with her parents, all I know is that i, personally, would pay off any debts regardless of my relationship with that person once possible

My dumbass parents also kept saying there were “almost broke” too, back when I was with them Lol. Those Bastards act like they are a charity and I need to donate to them
@@SKBJTVconsidering they paid near 200k for her education, it’s very likely they’re actually almost broke. and if you’re living with them it’s expected to pay rent and groceries
I think some people are being too parasocial, considering we don't know the ins and outs of their lives at all. At the end of the day, it's her decision to do what she wants with her money--you can criticize her, but I wouldn't take her actions so personally so as to act like she HAS to do this or she HAS to do that because that's what you would and because she's not doing that she's a morally indecent person.
I don't know about other people, but if i had problems with someone, the last thing i'd want is to be indebted to that person (regardless of obligation).
She chose to go to the expensive school under the idea she would pay them back. I know she thinks she's paying them back in a sense by giving them experiences like vacations with her is the same but it isn't, especially when Emily turns vacation with them into content. In a way she's avoiding paying them but using them to make money. They're older parents by the looks of it and she might regret being content brained towards them when they're gone.
IF extraemily was not only FORCED to go to college, but ALSO forced to go to a GOOD college, i do believe she can come back from this. If she frames it that way and is then being PRESSURED to pay it back i could understand not wanting to. This is the ONLY way i could see it as somewhat excusable. X said it pretty well, if everyone had the financial means to pay back our "debt" to our parents we would.
Naw, if she signed soemthing she had to honor it. She's super selfish. There's no way she was controlled but allowed to start streaming. She's lying to get people to her side.
*Money* It can show the true greed of an individual. They sacrificed allot for her, and in return she says "They don't need it" I had a girlfriend like her once. She was wealthy, I spent what little I had on her to make happy. She spent NOTHING on me, and when I lost my job due to an issue at work, she wouldn't even get me a pack of socks. The greed was unreal. People like this don't have your back. They'll spend money, but only when it makes them look good. Their ego requires constant nourishment.
It's simple, She never wanted to do what her parents told her to do. It's the way they forced her to go to college, that's what she hates, not because she has to give them the money back, she just wanted to do her own thing.
This is completely incorrect. Her parents wanted her to go to University of Nebraska for free on scholarship. It was Emily who wanted to go to Columbia in NYC for 40k a year.

The majority of streamers (99%) make less than 1k a year. The top 1% of streamers make less than 5k a year on average (accounting for outliers.) The Top 0.1% of streamers make less than 10k a year on average from streaming.

Only the top 0.001% of streamers are making over 1 million a year from streaming.
Only the top 25 streamers on Twitch are making over 10k a day, total, from all revenue sources, before taxes. They almost all know each other. After taxes, maybe 15 of them bring home 10k a day.
Streamers who can't live on their streaming salary exist, they are the vast majority of streamers, almost all streamers are barely surviving, and they all either live with their generous parents, or more likely, have a day job. The rare few, the 0.01% (yes, you are more likely to get into a good medical school than to become a successful streamer), make as much as a plumber, actually plumbers have more job security and earn more over a lifetime than those top 0.01% of streamers.

My asian parents also went almost broke paying for my brother but they would never ever ask him to pay back even if he can afford it. Yeah, they try to push her to let’s say be educated and be knowledgeable and half the shit she don’t use it don’t really matter. She’s making up that time that she could have lived a little bit better and is doing what she’s doing now which is paid them back and call it a day you can still be in your family‘s lives. I feel like she’s dragging it because it’s more personal than just money which I could totally get.

minus that 170k degree, they paid for that you don't use.
Weak act, Emily.
Meh she's her own person. She can do what she wants if they don't like that they should've made her get a bank loan. Nobody forced them and if they use that as a point of contention for their daughter it's shame on them
If we ignore every source of income outside of just subs. She is still getting a minimum of 20k a month. Even with "just" that, she can easily pay 10k a month no problem. Instead she can probably pay it all off with 3 sponsored streams..Of which she did like 12 last month.
it's obviously just spoiled mentality. She is self centred if you watch the stuff she does. She thinks she should get everything she wants. All her parents fault FYI so her not wanting to pay them back is their own doing.
Imagine if they didn’t wanna pay her college tuition she would have been all over the internet talking about how they are bad parents.
Even if she does have a toxic relationship with her parents she would be better off to pay them back and put it behind her so they dont have that over her anymore. Especially given her income, 170k isn't all that much.
She took 170k? The work your parents put in for you to be better? You better pay them
Took? Her parents chose to put her through school 😅 y'all love making up these random ass narratives
if she makes 100k a month and cant pay them back thats wild
u on crack if u think shes makes anything near 100k..at the most she makes 30k
Man ive heard so much about her behind the scenes. This all checks out. Theres a reason she doesn't hang out with people off stream
I never ever liked her ever. No wonder why.
If Extra Emily is a wealthy streamer she SHOULD pay it back.

Her mom just bought a Tesla im not saying they’re rich but buying a tesla doesn’t give off poor vibes lol

Really feel sorry for Emily's parents to go through this. They worked hard to get Emily to an Ivy League school and she didn't even use it. Spoiled and ungrateful

it’s crazy people are even defending her making excuses for how they treat her. she literally said she just doesn’t want to she said they’re great she just doesn’t want to pay.
Its typical of women, they are selfish, especially about money.
shes american not chinese..she cant even speak it
@@camlee2341I think they mean like her parents being Chinese and her maybe having a more Chinese family dynamic growing up
Absolutely disgusting. You have such loving parents who payed 170k for your education. You're not using your degree and most likely earn enough to pay them back easily in increments. Just very ungrateful and childish.
When the bubbly act falters and becomes overshadowed by the true callousness beneath.
On god
She worked so hard to work so you could go the sacrifices parents make , some of us weren’t that fortunate
Maybe they had to take loan themselves
Twitter is the real world, people are able to show their true self and Emily if she can't handle her fans and enemies then she cannot face the world when push comes to pull, she will live in that bubble where everyone comforts her and she gets her ways.
ExtraEmily has always seemed like a terrible person off camera. This just proves I was right.
I would give me parents 170k for no reason but she indebted them and doesn't want to
im sure if we all knew the real story behind the scenes we would (probably) completely understand why she doesn't want to pay them back but because we dont have any of the context or backstory (because she doesnt want to say it) she forsure is 100% wrong in this situation unless she goes into detail about it.
And here we have another SIMPathetic one.
@@PotatoGunCamper I assumed she had an excuse because it makes 0 sense to act that way otherwise besides just being completely stupid which she isnt. even if you want to believe she is. also i dont follow her nor do I care about her or her stream lol. this world isnt just black and white, if you trust everything you see on a livestream without knowing any of the truth or context behind the scenes youl just look like a fool later. thats been proven 100% of the time for every issue
If she’s capable of paying it back, then she should. If she’s earning millions. If she’s making 6000-11,000 a month then she’s is more than capable
It really just boils down to them wanting the best for their kids
Just my 2 cents

She’s goofy as hell
All i gotta say is asian parents trauma
So ExtraEmily is a terrible person, who could of guessed

I think some people are being too parasocial, considering we don't know the ins and outs of their lives at all. At the end of the day, it's her decision to do what she wants with her money--you can criticize her, but I wouldn't take her actions so personally so as to act like she HAS to do this or she HAS to do that because that's what you would and because she's not doing that she's a morally indecent person.
her parents literally begged her for months shes just entitled
*Money*
It can show the true greed of an individual.
They sacrificed allot for her, and in return she says "They don't need it"
I had a girlfriend like her once.
Me in pikachu face "omg oh no another Twitch streamer who's a POS"
Imagine not giving back to your parents when they gave you all they have..
