Just wanted to leave some positive feedback... Had my navy interview yesterday for the royal navy and I passed it... This guide helps a lot... Something I'd definetly take the time to research is locations... For example where is hms Raleigh etc and the names of some boats as they do ask! Overall just be yourself!!!!!!

If I had watched this video in 1989 when i applied, I might have been making this video now aged 50. What a great idea this video is, I need my boys to watch this video, just for advice on how to be interviewed. There is nothing like this in Spain, absolutely no career advice.

I did Mechanical Engineering at University and before I graduated (in 1989, many years ago, lol) I was given exactly the same advice by the Careers Office- and it worked.

At the time of writing this I am half way through an undergraduate psychology degree. Until recently I wanted to be a councillor but I’ve always struggled with the idea of a desk job. I have only thought of the Navy in the past month or so. I now have plans of being a mental health nurse. No where near ready to try for the selection process but I intend to use the last two years of my psychology course to train in fitness and direct my extra learning towards Naval life. Thanks for this video. Like I said I am no where near the interview yet but you’ve helped me to cement my goal of joining. I found I could answer many of the questions thoroughly and I’m now confident that it’s a good choice for me. Thank you.

I went for my Royal Navy recruitment interview in 1968. I was met by a Chief Petty Officer who sat me down, gave me two sheets of paper. One was a basic maths test, the other an English test (I had to write a few sentences). Before I'd finished writing my sentences he asked me to spell beautiful. I did so - correctly. He then asked me to nip out and buy him a packet of Woodbine cigarettes, waving aside my concerns that I'd not finished writing my sentences with a reassurance that I'd receive a pass. This must be the reason for, at that time, the phenomenal pass rate. Presumably, those who failed couldn't find a tobacconist! However, at HMS Ganges (gruelling) training establishment one was required to pass NAMET (Navy, Army maths and English test) in order to proceed into the wider Royal Navy world. I did! RNF122 (HMS Gurkha) rather gives that away.

Other things worth mentioning is to know what training you will undertake, both at HMS Raleigh/BRNC and the professional training you will undertake subsequently. I felt confident in other areas (i.e. what is already mentioned here), but I hadn't familiarised myself enough with respect to the training I would go through and it really caught me out. Likewise, know what your daily duties and responsibilities are for your chosen role.

That was actually one of my main concerns going into it, my examples of leadership, but he asked me about two mas long as you have a couple. Management in retail would be fine. Use an example from management of your team in retail, pertaining to a new project that you were in charge of, a new initiative, that kind of thing. The main part is seeing what task you had to do, what happened and the actions you took even if they weren't the best, as long as you explain after that you realised you made a mistake and offer as part of the STARL analysis lessons that you learnt from it it will be fine.

Just wanted to leave some feedback, this video really gives you a good idea of what there going to ask you in the interview. I passed my interview today. I have been in sea cadets for 5 years and I did a little CV of all the achievements and qualifications I have from cadets, I emailed it to my recruitment officer, and this gave him a good idea of what I’m like as a character As I’m only 16 and the CV really helped me and my recruitment officer didn’t have to ask me as many questions as he knows i know what I’m letting myself in for joining the navy ETC. I hope this has made sense to people, and if you have been in cadets I think it would be a really good idea to make a little CV like I did and send it to your recruitment officer.

Hi, no problem... here's a selection of questions to help get you started:
      Q. Why do you want to join the Royal Navy as opposed to the RAF or Army?
      Q. What experience of leadership do you have so far?
      Q. What's the difference between a leader and a manager?
      Q. Where is the RN operating right now in the world?
      Q. Tell me six current affairs issues currently ongoing across the globe?
      Q. What does the role of a Warfare Officer entail?
      Q. What training will you undergo as a Warfare Officer and which parts will you find toughest?
      Q. Tell me about the ships you would serve on as a Warfare Officer?
      Q. What responsibilities have you had in your life so far?
      Q. What have you achieved in life to date that you can draw from as a Warfare Officer?
      Q. Give me an example of when you have worked successfully as part of a team?
      Q. When have you led a team to achieve a goal?
      Q. When have you remained calm under pressure?
      Q. What are your strengths?
      Q. What are your weaknesses?
