- In this video review, Chris talks through the Rokker Rokkertech light tapered slim single-layer jean. Now, the Rokkertech Light has been produced by Rokker exclusively for Motolegends. It is a lighter weight jean that meets the AA level under the latest EN 17092 regulations, but impressively they recorded a slide time of 4.9 seconds when tested on a Cambridge machine at SATRA. This makes them 10% stronger than leather. The wash is what Rokker calls their ‘original’ wash, which sits somewhere in between their ‘raw’ and more aggressive ‘vintage’ wash. The fit is what is termed ‘tapered slim’. In truth, this is very similar to the standard, ‘slim’ fit. It is very marginally wider in the thigh, but very marginally narrower at the ankle. There is 30% more stretch in the fabric than there is in the standard Rokkertech. This makes the ‘Lights’ particularly comfortable to wear, but the stretch also allows a taller, touring boot to be worn inside the jean. At our behest, the jeans come with a zip, and not a button, fly. They are also supplied with the latest, super-thin D3O Ghost armour and, for the first time ever, this is a Rokkertech that comes with adjustable, knee pockets. If you want the ultimate in protection, go for the full-fat Rokkertechs, but these are as protective as you’re ever going to need on the road. They are, in a number of other respects, nicer than the standard jean. They are also a bit cheaper!

Bought a pair of these yesterday and I’m over the moon with the quality and fit of the pants . The fit ,comfort is exceptional and can’t see me wearing anything else on the bike . It was a blind purchase and I bought them off this video and I’m glad I did . Brilliant

Just bought the PMJ single layer jeans from you, they’re fantastic but I think I’d prefer these. I’m going to have to buy them as well!
Interesting - I didn't get on with the previous generation Rokkertechs I got from you in 2019 - primarily because the D30 armour felt uncomfortable on some bikes and, to be perfectly frank, they weren't as good as my Knox single layer jeans which are soooo comfortable and equally resilient. I've even tried replacing the D30 armour with the new Ghost variant and it doesn't work at all well in the non-adjustable pockets which are not a brilliant feature it has to be said. So I basically don't wear them and have put the Ghost armour in the Knox jeans. These new Rokkertechs may be better but I won't be trying them now I've found a good alternative.
I like the stretchiness, zip, movable knee protection and "hope never to use" slide time.

@motolegends I'm on my 2nd pair of Rokkers jeans, i also have a pair of lined jeans from another famous maker. Their ghost armour has velcro stuck to it and velcro to their jeans, the plain side is fitted so it's next to your body,,opposite to they way you say to fit it.
Does it make any difference to the performance of the armour which way it is fitted? All my jackets have the Armour with the plain side next to my body..you have me worried now!
Correct me if I a wrong, but the Rokkertech cost £299.00 with a slide time of 6 seconds, while the PMJ jeans cost £229.99 or less with a slide of time 8 seconds. Both are single layer jeans. Why would one chose Rokkertech over PMJ?
You suggested that we should correct you if you are wrong, and you are wrong, so I am correcting you. The full-fat Rokkertech has a slide time of 6.4 seconds and cost £350. PMJ single layer jean costs £230 but has a slide time of 4.1 seconds. Now 4.1 seconds is perfectly good enough, in our view, for any road riding situation, but if you want the ultimate in single layer protection the Rokkertech is where it is at. But there is another issue. Nobody buys anything purely on its functional component. Why would anybody buy a Ducati Superbike that costs way more than an equivalent Honda that has a similar level of performance, yet many people do. Fit, feel and style will also be factors in decision making.
@@Motolegends Thanks for the quick response. The PMJ website states that the TWARON material is the best high protection innovative synthetic fiber with 8 seconds of impact abrasion test, not 4 seconds. Which one is correct?
The 8 second time is for a pure Twaron. And you can buy a layered jean with a denim outer and Twaron lining. However, these are heavy and hot in warm weather. Our preference is for a single layer jean which allows much better airflow. When you weave the Twaron with the cotton fabric then you end up with the lesser 4 second slide time of the PMJ Tex-Pro jean we sell. Depending on the percentage of Twaron to denim you will get different slide times. We also sell a ladies PMJ single layer jean which has less Twaron which is a 2.1 second slide time.

Dears, I have bought on pair of Rokkertech stright raw. My waist measure is 42.5" and I have sellected a 36" size but unfortunatlly came small🤔.!! Luckly I gave it to my friend and it is fine with him👍. I like this light tapered and I am intrested to get one. Importan question: what the is the proper size to my 42.5" measured waist? Furthermore, I want a 30" lengthe but worry of armor postioning, will you need to adjust it for my measured size of (hip joint-to- knee joint = 17") hope you can help aspecially that I am in Saudi Arabia. Finally thank you for your good and speed shipping.

Own the black Rokkertech Pant and they are absolutely worth the money. Expensive yes, but happy to pay that price. Just brilliant jeans and I need a 36 leg so they tick that box as nobody else does a 36 leg. Just a pity that this jean does not come in a 36 leg. Gutted.
I am afraid we end up with more demand for a 30" leg than for a 36" leg so have requested these in the shorter lengths. The Rokkertech in Vintage wash and in Raw do come in a 36" length if you need another pair! And the PMJ Tex-Pro comes in a 36".
Both the rokker and pmj have slide times of 4 seconds or so. Why then is pmj rated AAA and rokker only AA ? Thank you.
The subject matter is a wee bit confusing, and tomorrow, Sunday 31st May we will be posting a more comprehensive review of EN17092, and this might help your understanding. But in essence the issue is this. EN 17092, the current regulation, does not incorporate a slide test. It uses a totally different measure that makes it harder to compare one material with another because there are only three levels. And so some manufacturers still get their jeans tested on a Cambridge machine, which was used under EN 13595, the old regulations. Unfortunately, there is no automatic conversion of A, AA and AAA to a slide time. What makes the situation even more confusing is that some manufacturers are only testing to the A standard, merely in order to make their gear legally saleable. This does create some anomalies. So the situation you outline is not unusual. The Rokkertech slims have a better slide time but might be less tear resistance or have weaker seams than the PMJs, and this might be why they are only AA rated. I do not know this to be the case, however. Or it could be that they just didn't try to test them to AAA initially. Another more obvious example is that the standard Rokkertech jean is only A rated yet has a slide time of 6.4 seconds. My view is that it will take some years before all this settles down such that one can make truly informed judgements. I hope this helps!

No they are not cooler. The originals are thicker. Also, none of them contain Dyneema!

eh up these are very protective trousers, more abrasion resistant than leather so I certainly wouldn’t say style over function. They’re designed as a protective garment first and foremost.
@@gpzfan5272 a full on leather 1 or 2 piece are often bulky in the key areas. Do these thin jeans provide crash (impact & abrasion) or fall (abrasion maybe impact) protection. Do they limit limb fling during a roll or are there instructions on the label how to prevent it. If you commute at 15/20mph these may be adequate, but hey I'd prefer some shock absorption. It might hinder movement but as I say function over form

This is a complicated subject. In terms of abrasion resistance many motorcycle jeans are stronger than leather; and that is just a fact. But, if you were riding on the track where you could end up sliding a long way, then you would go for a leather suit because leather slides much better. However, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that being comfortable on the bike makes you a safer rider, and puts you in a position where you are less likely to have an accident. Leather doesn't breath well so it is not ideal in really hot conditions. And because it doesn't breath it doesn't work particularly well over a thermal layer. The issue is far from cut and dried. All we can say is that in a road riding situation a highly abrasion jean with armour is right up there with any solution.
Motolegends you addressed that to me but I was already defending the riding jean 🤣 The other guy was extolling the virtues of leather and suggesting denim is style over function.
