One thing’s for sure. You won’t need to buy that many Coruscant Guard Gunships as you’ve already got a bunch of decaled Shock Troopers.

I think displaying more Mocs vs sets is a great idea! Especially since you have started to use more custom vehicles which makes Legos models obsolete. Keep up the great work!

I love this and recently I started doing this myself! I buy the sets for the figs and I build them to learn new techniques, but then I almost immediately take them apart for the pieces. I also understand the draw of collecting sets, but I think it's a bit cooler to be able to display your own builds
The figs are my main attraction to sets as well but I have started buying them from bricklink.

I also do not collect and display many sets. I only have a few sets still built (Rivendell, Lion Knights Castle, and the new Galaxy Explorer). Any other set I've recently bought and built has since been parted out and sorted for MOC building.
I do think Legos bigger sets like the ucs style stuff make for great display pieces! I have the ucs imperial shuttle and sandcrawler and wish I could display them.

I think that we have a similar philosophy for when it comes to what we display, out of all the builds i have on display, 5 of them are official sets, everything else is either custom sets or the few MOCs i've built to date. Main reason being that Lego official sets don't really capture what i want for my collection, accuracy and complexity are my main focus. I still buy a lot of official set but mostly for the minifigs and to be up to date with the new parts that Lego offers as it's a great development tool/asset for the custom sets i create or collaborate with other designers.
I have a couple ucs sets I would like to display but I want to start displaying more custom vehicles. When I eventually get a larger permanent display setup I want to invest more in those types of builds.

I would definitely be buying old sets that I wanted still. But mocs are cool and yes it also allows for bigger and better mocs
After buying most of the old sets I wanted for nostalgia I realized there just wasn't much of an appeal in the newer sets.

I do the exact same thing! Would rather spend my $$ on parts for a MOC/MOD then on a LEGO set these days.
For sure, especially because actual Lego bricks are pretty cheap.

They are just carefully stacked on top of one another.
I dont often do MOCs, but I have recently rebuilt old lego sets from pieces in my lego bins so I don't have to pay money for new sets

For me buying Lego sets is very much a finite thing. It's not that I don't want to keep collecting, it's just I don't have nearly enough space or money for that matter. With Lego becoming more & more expensive, I rarely buy a set straight away as most are just vastly overpriced imo but that's just the way things go I guess.

I only buy mocs too now and mostly custom figures just because i don't want to support lego's current cheaping out attitude when it comes to sets

You can often get much better looking models for much cheaper.
Displaying sets is 100% not as gratifying as showcasing your own designs
