It's gotten harder, Instagram's changes have made it very difficult for creators to grow. My posts don't even appear in hashtags anymore, unless they're a month old. All my posts in the last few months have had the lowest reach I've seen on the past year. Unless IG stops trying to be like Tik Tok I don't think it'll be a supportive platform for artists for much longer.
Finally, someone said it. This video is useless, the algorithm on IG is impossible to figure out at this point. Unless you have thousands of dollars to put into advertising or draw fanart 24/7, you won’t grow at ALL.
@@DesignzRUs1 I feel that content is being suppressed intentionally to tempt users into buying into their features. Instagram is moving towards a "pay-to-play" model it would seem, organic growth is no longer a viable option. I hate what Instagram has become, but I'm still tethered to the community I've built...
Yeah, a lot of social media tends to treat it's content creators like sh*t (RUclips included). Part of the problem is also how social media is built upon having constant content to display at all times, which treats artists and content creators less as people and more like overworked factories to keep churning out their artwork, more as a commodity to consume rather than something created with time and passion. Instagram having a finicky algorithm shows how a lot of social media sites don't really care about the working artists that use it at all - it's just another site catering to the desire for instant gratification that all social media is built to cater to. It's little wonder that there's artists that are hesitant to post their art online and/or are still famous for having mental health struggles.
I do none of that and I still grow and I see many people having success in the same way. Sometimes the problem isn’t the algorithm, sometimes your art just isn’t connecting with people the way you think it does.
@@rochewoodworthillustration Okay? No one asked, no need to brag just because I said your video sucked LOL Who said we don’t have success on Instagram? I have thousands of followers, great engagement and I get fanart all the time. I’m just saying it’s harder to grow NOW and claiming the algorithm has no hand in lower reach is just delusional. Go shove your gaslighting nonsense onto someone else, thanks.
I love what you said in the end that even though the art community is “a huge and saturated market, it’s real and there’s always room for someone new.” This has been my experience as a new artist who is still trying to grow and it resonates a lot. Even tho I only have a small following still, I’ve found that I’ve made some real friends who truly support and encourage my work and it means so much. Thank you for this video, it is so helpful. I really am proud and grateful to be a part of this community and to have people like you who are willing to help those who are still finding their way ❤️🥰
Struggling IG artist here. I've been drawing since 2015 but I only took my art seriously this month of 2022. These tips are really helpful. But a reminder to all other artists out there, everything will start within us; we need to really commit to our growth to see results. Also, let us put our heart into the things we do, we need to first love our work before others will so that even if we have few likes or don't get noticed, we'll still continue because we love our work first hand. Also, the vlogger's voice is so calm and relaxed :)))))
hey, thank you, and good luck with all that! I am the same as you, just start to get real with art this last a few months ago. really agree, to love our own work is most important! If you are not enjoying your own art, I am sure people feel the same way. Defining our own style is like defining ourselves.
Engaging with other creators is one of the most rewarding aspects of instagram anyway, so it’s definitely the wrong move to only be thinking about the algorithm. Thank you for sharing 🌿
As an anime artist, I still don't understand how Instagram works, since the algorithm keeps changing everytime. I'll try to follow your advices and hope it works. Thank you for this!
Love your video, it is not only well-made, but also brings a lot of value. I am not a newbie, but despite that I still look for new tips on how to present my work better, I struggle for years to get some traction to my account, despite of being active, engaging, posting quality photos. Ever since reels came into picture, it is much easier for me to grow there and your encouragement to create them is very on-spot. One thing I sadly don't have time to do and would love to very much is to join the challenges you talk about and I am curious to see how that affects my progress :)
Honestly, drawing challenges is critically important! It’s a super easy way to get lots of engagement and the potential to have your work shared to a wider audience. I really contribute a lot of my success in the last couple of year to these challenges!
I recently opened my art account on instagram and I only have 24 followers rn haha. I'll try my best to connect with people and post more often with hashtags. Thank you so much, this helped a lot

I had a few people contact me about this, and after checking all the settings and toggling some things off and back on it was showing up for everybody!:) Sorry about that!!
Thank you for the tips :) I am trying to grow my instagram and RUclips channel, I post every week on each and answer all my comments and DMs (not that I get that many). And just keep trying :)
This is such a helpful video!! Just wondering, what is the best canvas size resolution for posting high definition art? And how do artists post close ups of artwork that don’t look pixelated? I always feel like my art has a slightly blurred or fuzzy look when I try posting it 😭
That’s awesome! I started mine a week ago and I only have 11. I didn’t want to promote it on my personal account so I can grow organically. I’ll follow you, what’s your ig?

This video was very interesting ! I will try your tips. But I'm afraid it will be difficult to find time and energy to post and engage regularly. I'm a slow drawer, and I have a full-time job so, I don't often have finished drawings to post. Do you have any tips for people like me ? Thank you !
I grew from 0 to 148k in 3 years, but - now I hardly get 1k likes for artworks / interior shots that were 2-10k in past years, Since October, ig completely hid my account and since like week ago, they only show reels and my likes are like 150-200, which is insane, they completely ruined the platform.
That’s very discouraging, I completely understand. But IG doesn’t “hide” content. Some people I follow do amazing, even without posting reels. Why doesn’t IG hide those people? It’s important to ask these kinds of questions. The platform is completely different than 3 years ago, or even 1 year ago. There’s hundreds of millions more users, more competition. Of course, I don’t know exactly what’s going on with your account, but it’s very important to evolve with the industry and stay on top of the trends, and be genuinely engaged on the platform to stay relevant. Good luck!💕
I'm not sure, but maybe it can be a shadowban? I heard you can get that from the most simple things like posting the same hashtag in too many posts or liking/commenting to fast/much... not sure though. My posts/reels are never seen, not even by the 55 people that follow me. Insta is weird...
It’s a Logitech Combo Touch. Amazing keyboard, I absolutely love and recommend it. The adjustable kickstand is great work working, but kind of a weak point for drawing, but it could be because I use too much pressure 🤷♀️
You should still make one! You can start making friends in the community and maybe even start growing a following by showing your journey of learning to draw :D
@@zeliha8113 Don't know if you made an account yet, but I also think you should go for it. As an artist you'll always be learning and growing so don't worry so much about the quality of your art because it will get better. Before, I waned every art I did to look finished and as good as can be but because of that I didn't practice enough and forgot to enjoy the sketching process. Make the account, don't take it too seriously and have fun! ; )
You should go for it. Believe me there are many pages I have seen who's art aren't that good but because of consistency they have good followers, and you being consistent will improve yourself as an artist. Don't think much about your art just open your page and keep making art and posting. You will improve day by day. I am already late in opening my page so late. I regret that I should have started way more earlier. Since I was not active on social medias I never even thought of opening my art page. I'm 20 now and I feel so late. So just go for it and put your art out there. You will definitely improve by practice.

Oh yes, I think they are super important aspects of the art community and a great way to make friends too! I also feel the same with youtube, I’m really hoping to figure it out this year haha
I've stagnanted at 250 followers. I thought if I drew public figures, and tag them in, I'll just piggy back the followers. Complete fail. Even when they shared and commented. I'm rethinking my whole strategy. I won't quit because I'm having too much fun.
The problem with doing that is that the audience of the public figure is interested in the public figure, not the artist that creates fanart of the public figure. I think your energy is best spent joining DTIYS challenges:)
thank you so much for the tips! I really enjoyed your video. You recommend me have an Instagram account only for art or can I upload other themes like cosplay?
I am an introvert too! Being “social” online is very difficult for me and doesn’t come naturally - but the best way to get better is to just start doing it :D Just start sharing!
If you check out some tags on IG like #dtiys or #drawthisinyourstyle you will find recent challenges. You can also check out my IG profile, I am currently hosting a challenge:)
How can I grow my RUclips channel 😭😭😭 Videos aren't spreading anymore! When they spead they are liked❤💛 Nh I adore them anyway But how can I make videos spread?!!
I am not much of an Instagramer to be fair, but I’m hugely into RUclips. If there’s one thing that really gets me turning a video off, it’s when there is music playing that’s as loud as the person speaking. It’s ok if the artist isn’t saying anything or giving instructions, but this video was ALL talking - so the music is unnecessary and distracting. IMO. 🤷♀️
This is not the “magic recipe” to grow on IG. This is what I do. If it doesn’t work, you need to consider the fact that although you are proud of your art, maybe it doesn’t resonate with other people. Sometimes the art that I worked hardest on totally flops on IG. Sometimes the lowest effort thing does crazy well. You can’t really predict how other people will perceive your work. Focus on improvement, and if you’re happy with your art, don’t get discouraged by a lack of followers. The love and enjoyment of your art should be the main focus.
That doesn’t seems right for sure, but not a reason to quit art at all! Keep making art because you love it and if you love to share it, keep doing that too! The right people will find you! (And remember IG loves consistency, so don’t give up yet!)
It definitely does. I went from 50k to 100k the next year, and I’m on track to grow to 150k before another year is over. Using the same “tips” I posted here.
@@rochewoodworthillustration No it doesn’t LOL There’s so much more to success on social media than follow counts. I get more engagement on my page then accounts in the art community with your same “numbers”. The real problem is posts not being pushed out to followers…the algorithm definitely has a hand on what gets seen and what doesn’t. Your boring “children’s book” art isn’t special and I’ve never even heard of you LOL Again, your video is useless and I’ll be happy to leave a dislike :) Have a nice day!
What I did good for myself on Instagram is not to be active and to waste my time on there! I don't need a corporate running social media platform to control me and my content to gain profits.
@@rochewoodworthillustration Just for my pass time. However, I am a long time user of IG and its owner FB, but I don't take them seriously anymore since they are poor quality geedy American based platforms.
I think growing on instagram has been much harder I had an older account which grew quite a lot from using hashtags and people sharing. I got rid of that account because the art I do now is different and the audience is also different so I’ve created a new account it’s doing ok but it’s so hard to get people to see your art even from people sharing it my art doesn’t get the love on my new account as much as the art on my old account did. But I still won’t give up because I love showing people my art so I’m still hopeful that I can reach to 1000 and in the future 10K! I’m on 257 right now! :) 🩷🌸
It´s definitely a whole new ballgame than it was just 2-3 years ago! Just make sure you´re focusing on the love of creating and sharing art, not the numbers, and don´t give up! Good luck 💞

Hi! 😄 I will save this topic for an upcoming video! :)
For me the reels are doing less likes than posts
Is your account a professional account?
On IG? I have a creator account. I explain more about my theories on that topic in my ebook.
IMO. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the tip! :)
"engage with others" oh no
This used to be me lol It gets easier the more you do it …(kinda) haha
Your accent sounds somewhat familiar 🤔
🇿🇦 haha! I knew it! So happy to see more and more South African RUclipsrs ☺️☺️🤍
Haha, yep! I’m South African:) But I am as of one month ago, based in Portugal😄
@@rochewoodworthillustration that’s so cool! Hope you’re enjoying life in Portugal! 🤍💃
Ek hou van jou prentjie so oulik
I like your picture and sweet
And then there’s me whose been doing all these for 2 months and I have 200 followers lol
My reels has 0 views with 3k followers after 15 hours of work I gonna quit of art
That doesn’t seems right for sure, but not a reason to quit art at all! Keep making art because you love it and if you love to share it, keep doing that too! The right people will find you! (And remember IG loves consistency, so don’t give up yet!)
I have almost 2 thousand followers but I could care less
LOL that’s also fine! Not quite sure why you’re watching growth tips videos then 🤔
@@rochewoodworthillustration because Instagram is going downhill my friends and family are not seeing my posts.
These “tips” DON’T work anymore.
It definitely does. I went from 50k to 100k the next year, and I’m on track to grow to 150k before another year is over. Using the same “tips” I posted here.
@@rochewoodworthillustration No it doesn’t LOL
There’s so much more to success on social media than follow counts. I get more engagement on my page then accounts in the art community with your same “numbers”. The real problem is posts not being pushed out to followers…the algorithm definitely has a hand on what gets seen and what doesn’t. Your boring “children’s book” art isn’t special and I’ve never even heard of you LOL
Again, your video is useless and I’ll be happy to leave a dislike :)
Have a nice day!
U have kids?
Three kids! 😅
What I did good for myself on Instagram is not to be active and to waste my time on there! I don't need a corporate running social media platform to control me and my content to gain profits.
Oh, I mean that’s fine too. Not sure why you’re watching an IG tips video then.
@@rochewoodworthillustration Just for my pass time. However, I am a long time user of IG and its owner FB, but I don't take them seriously anymore since they are poor quality geedy American based platforms.
Thankyu forr this genuine tips !🥹❤️
Of course!!💕
I think growing on instagram has been much harder I had an older account which grew quite a lot from using hashtags and people sharing. I got rid of that account because the art I do now is different and the audience is also different so I’ve created a new account it’s doing ok but it’s so hard to get people to see your art even from people sharing it my art doesn’t get the love on my new account as much as the art on my old account did. But I still won’t give up because I love showing people my art so I’m still hopeful that I can reach to 1000 and in the future 10K! I’m on 257 right now! :)
🩷🌸
It´s definitely a whole new ballgame than it was just 2-3 years ago! Just make sure you´re focusing on the love of creating and sharing art, not the numbers, and don´t give up! Good luck 💞
Thank you for sharing. This was so helpful
