I'm really impressed by this guy. His honesty and sincerity about and towards the electronic culture is a breath of fresh air. I've just recently heard some of his older dubstep stuff and honestly didn't care too much for it. It really puts to light the music he's been putting out lately, the complextro style he has really does feel sincere to his personality.
Thank you Porter Robinson. In a musical world of " #turnt ," you are one of the few that understands the novelty of not having a drop. That is all that I have to say on this.
***** i expected a childish reaction like that..listen to the last album from deadmau5 and u will understand.. i mean i love porters music and the album he did now but u can not hear as much pioneer work as in while 1 is less than 2 or random access memories..but yea maybe its the most beautiful one of the 3
Just listened to "Breathe" by Michelle Branch and fuckin loved it. Thanks for the reminder of that gem PR. I love you and have been replaying Worlds nonstop since it's release. It's the only electronic album of late that I've loved from start to finish.
porter is great. ive only heard so far, fellow feeling (has an amazing bass drop), goodbye to a world, and sad machine. i think that if i hear more of his songs, hell be my favorite EDM artist
I went to the Worlds show in LA and i can honestly say that it was the best rave/concert I have ever been to. Yes I know Porter's show isn't supposed to be a rave but Los Angeles couldn't help but get hyped as fuck.
respect! please continue to keep the feels alive in EDM especially if that's what is true to your heart. feels in my opinion is needed to make the best of the experience, but has become much less prominent in the music these days
Watched a burning man hula video featuring Language and got hooked on the tune used... had to find out more. Very cool back story. Spot on re: pointless buildups and drops.
Mad respect to Porter, although I don't necessarily agree that everything should be generalized as one big buildup to a climax because there are a lot of emotionally captivating shows that buildup and climax. Looooove that he mentioned Wave Racer because that guy is a legend in the making. Very knowledgeable fellow!
Haha yeah man my Fav sound engineer is Josh Pan, Fav genre smasher y//2//k, Luca is so sensitive he knows exactly what to put on -- oshi is just fkin insane
I like this guy. I support anyone who has the balls to stand up for what they believe in. I love #edmmusic but at the same time, you're an artist first. Artists HAVE to evolve themselves and the music that they do, or you might as well just take the same 5 tracks, sample them forever, and just get new people to sing over them. EDM's structure is very important and artist need to recognize this and not totally abandon the culture, but still, artists by nature are disobedient. If we weren't, there'd be no EDM.
You're awesome Porter, stay humble and shit. Love your attitude, and I loved your set at Frequency. You truly changed the way I see music. I used to hate EDM and all that stuff, until my friends started bringing me to events, which were still meh. But when I saw you do a live set, you blew my fucking mind, and showed me that electronic music is more than just noise. You and Haywyre both.
yep ddm is the new disco. pain electric music more board of umbrella. for me I experimenting mix electric sound with rock and like chip tunes a lot because is chip tunes are raw. a lot of the fancy electric sound fit certain only certain genres.
what does he mean from @5:10 when he says he doesn't use black keys, and epic emotional atmosphere? he even uses michelle branch - breathe as an example but i cant pin point what it is that is being specified
I think Porter's story is very interesting. I respect him a lot for the decisions he made and how he wants to stay true to himself. However, I kind of feel like he's generalizing all music with big energy and a "drum buildup" to be cheesy and unoriginal, which is really not true at all. There's some great artists out there that make great pumped up house tracks. But If you judge EDM from the Beatport Top 10 and music festivals then yeah, you'll find a load of bullshit. There was nothing wrong with his old music, and personally, I liked his older stuff way more. I loved his Electro House sound, and then Language came along. I don't really like his new sound, but still, he's a respectable guy.
I feel this was Porter being polite and politically correct, instead of name dropping or bashing genres. But a lot of what he said was very true about the genre being limited and having to stay in a certain confine to be accepted or appreciate.
Basically, this can be applied to humanity as a whole. Sure, everyone starts out working at McDonalds as a part timer, as a student, but eventually they'll have to do more and let the next generation do the same. I think artists have to 'graduate' from each phase of their career. Perhaps that's why musicians from Spinnin's golden age of big room are dying out! Acts like Jay Hardway, Moti, Quintino etc. are all shadows of their former selves...
4:45 - before people said future bass
+kyle mclean lmao
THIS^
this whole time explaining what future bass has been tough and then you hear it described without naming it was kinda surreal.
But the time future bass is emotional, it is so great..
Porter likes flume, thats becuase they are both legends rather then being in it for the money!
First electronic album this year that hasn't bored me to tears. Really great work.
I'm really impressed by this guy. His honesty and sincerity about and towards the electronic culture is a breath of fresh air. I've just recently heard some of his older dubstep stuff and honestly didn't care too much for it. True musician, there aren't much of them nowadays
adorable little nerd wearing a punpun shirt
Jaden :3 actually it's the girl
Porter Robinson, you sir, are a fucking saint.

I'm impressed - what an articulate young man!
YOOOO I RECOGNIZE THAT GIRL ON HIS SHIRT. Thats Aiko from 'Oyasumi Punpun'.
so cool coming back to this seeing that porter hasnt really changed so much after all! He is just more honest with everything!
Just found this guy today and he's wearing a shirt from my favorite story of all time. Best. Such a respectable and humble dude too.
Thank you Porter Robinson. In a musical world of " #turnt ," you are one of the few that understands the novelty of not having a drop. That is all that I have to say on this.
3:50 virtual self in a nutshell
Daft Punk - RAM < Porter Robinson - Worlds... fuck it.
Porter Robinson - Worlds > Everything ever...
If you're going to pick a Daft Punk album to compare it to, pick a good one.
MrMaf00 i was comparing a relevant/recent album... madeon compared this album to RAM... so yeah.
1.Daft Punk-RAM
2.deadmau5-while (1
*****
i expected a childish reaction like that..listen to the last album from deadmau5 and u will understand..
i mean i love porters music and the album he did now but u can not hear as much pioneer work as in while 1 is less than 2 or random access memories..but yea maybe its the most beautiful one of the 3
Second Universe (While 1>2) is probably deadmau5' worst album though. [Album Title Goes Here], 4x4=12, Random Album Title... pretty much flawless.
Just listened to "Breathe" by Michelle Branch and fuckin loved it. Thanks for the reminder of that gem PR. I love you and have been replaying Worlds nonstop since it's release. It's the only electronic album of late that I've loved from start to finish.
Porter is a legend tbh. I'm kind of glad that a lot of people don't obsess over him because his music isn't commercialized... it's his.
I still love his EDM style dj sets. He was one of the best at it.
An honest, genuine artist. Keep it up, Porter.
porter is great. ive only heard so far, fellow feeling (has an amazing bass drop), goodbye to a world, and sad machine. i think that if i hear more of his songs, hell be my favorite EDM artist
Trust me, I bought the entire Worlds album and now he is my favorite artist by far.
Fuck I love that his wearing an Oyasumi Punpun T-shirt
2:20 - Truer words haven't ever been spoken than Porter Robinson on the state of drops in EDM
where can i get that shirt tho ?
oyasumi punpun
much respect! real producer.
And yet... he's the best DJ in my opinión.
I could hear Avicii speaking through him (since he did face same issues)
I went to the Worlds show in LA and i can honestly say that it was the best rave/concert I have ever been to. Yes I know Porter's show isn't supposed to be a rave but Los Angeles couldn't help but get hyped as fuck.
Enter Nurture
Enter Smile! :D
Sincerity goes a long way. Don't walk on other peoples footsteps, make your own path!

He is wise beyond his years. Good going Porter. Proud of you....
Saw you with Tiesto in Norfolk, VA. I was impressed with the chances you took
Watched a burning man hula video featuring Language and got hooked on the tune used... had to find out more. Very cool back story. Spot on re: pointless buildups and drops.
So well spoken and knowledgable!
Shows/songs
Plus, Porter himself makes pretty sick buildups. Flicker and Language are good examples from his "modern style" stuff
i love his shirt!
This guys a weeb. But hes a great weeb.
I love this interview
Love your music Porter!
This kid blows my fuckin mind.
The genre he's talking about has artists like Josh Pan, luca lush, y//2//k, oshi, misoji
Luca Lush is so sick.
Haha yeah man my Fav sound engineer is Josh Pan, Fav genre smasher y//2//k, Luca is so sensitive he knows exactly what to put on -- oshi is just fkin insane
Word yo! Have you heard Luca's mix of Hold on We're Going Home yet?? It was released last week on trapped planet or something.
Hahah yeah man that's a dope ass track -- I listen to all of my music on soundcloud coz I produce too

6 years later i am here
I’m really happy language worked well, because we most likely wouldn’t have got worlds without it working out well
He is PERFECT!!!
Yo he mentioned J Dilla
As a Detroit native, I very much appreciated that name drop.
He never was into big-room.
I live in North Carolina
the soundcloud rabbithole is real
ok cameraman calm down
I have two other Punpun shirts from where Porter got his. o:

Flume's remix of Tennis Court by Lorde.
Is the girl on his shirt from punpun??
+WCKFJK1 FUCKING YES
That shirt OMG
his punpun shirt omg
I love his brain 🧠

yep ddm is the new disco. pain electric music more board of umbrella. for me I experimenting mix electric sound with rock and like chip tunes a lot because is chip tunes are raw. a lot of the fancy electric sound fit certain only certain genres.
did he say M sixty-four? c'mon! nevertheless, what a great artist, hearing his thoughts just makes me likes him even more, the guy have principles
what does he mean from @5:10 when he says he doesn't use black keys, and epic emotional atmosphere? he even uses michelle branch - breathe as an example but i cant pin point what it is that is being specified
He doesn't use the black keys on a piano/Keyboard. He writes most of his music in C Major. Only using white keys
6:59 what about now?
I think Porter's story is very interesting. I respect him a lot for the decisions he made and how he wants to stay true to himself. Who is the artist that Porter mentions at the end of the video? I want to give his stuff a listen to!
Derek Bowles Wave Racer!
4:09
I like his hair hahaa
Porter inspired me to grow out my hair
Does anyone know the song he made that got good on beatport?
+Llamaguy11 If not "Language", then it's probably "Unison".
+Llamaguy11 Its called Say My Name
+Llamaguy11 Say My Name

AND he is a Voluntaryist. WOMP WOMP THE STATE

can't play sad machine on my keyboard without *black keys*
flede actually if you play shelter (which is all on white keys) you can play sad machine. You just have to play it in c major
martin garrix? is he a peanut candy? He doesn't compare to Porter who is a Lollipop candy wkwkwk haha
your live stream edm is amazing, why go to vocal and ambient music.
are you listening to the interview at all?
lol, "The State"
I don't know this guy but I think he speaks the truth!
Porter: I just use white keys...
Course you do, you're scared the black keys might steal your bike... Or rob you... Dats racist...
fun9killer3 Well you live up to your name...
Not racist but it made me laugh... I love porter robinson. Im sure he didnt say it in that way. Buy racist jokes always make people laugh.
josue grajeda It was sarcasmness....
fun9killer3
that was a joke dude xD
Thats what makes it funny Alex Gærtner no harm intended
true music producer one of my favorites next to ZEDD :D
lowk looks like illenium
Does EDM have anything to do with EDMODO? Serious question.
yes. i'm serious.
Never have I held an opinion with someone with so much overlap
EdM pIonEEr
The real question is... what happened to the big cheeto?
woahhhhh it wasn't hard for you to learn to be a DJ?! Tell me mooooore!
Bernard Sabag no one ever said it was hard to dj, the difficult part is producing
So he was asked to Dj and he never pursued a big dj/music producer career, wow... really??? LOL...
Porter has a decent vocabulary
Lol Porter is such a weeb xD Nice
WEEB
I think his album wasn't that good as the show around of it
did he just shoutout J dilla? sheesh
