Fucking awesome. Porter is one of my favorite producers. All of his Electro House mixes he's dropped lately are just perfect. Can't wait to see him live.
That advice at the end was probably the best advice that any artist could give anyone, and i'm not being sarcastic or anything like that actually makes people realize that they don't just sit down and make amazing music in a really short period of time like a lot of people think they do but they work their asses off to get where they are.
Bass music without Harmor is possible but a lot harder, relies on manual resynthesis, and trying to get anywhere near a decent vocoder sound without Vocodex.
does This video prove that Traktor S4 is clubworthy? Zedd uses S4 too while on tour... sincerely, from a beginner who is always bullied because he uses S4 at parties..
You're probably getting bullied by uncreative big room djs who wouldn't even go near traktor or remix decks. They just don't like you for being individual.
Very true. I often forget about Reason but they are definitely in the old FL Studio model where they had their own generators and let you cut loose on them. Very good program too if that is your thing. I totally agree it is the person using it. They all have similar functions. The ones I use primarily today are: FL,Sonar, Maschine and sometimes Cubase. I guess Traktor too because I tend to dump stems I made in other programs into there so I can cut them up on the decks before my final mix.
I use FL Studio myself and i have found so many of the same kind of sounds made in Ableton or Logic and i find alot of artist Underground Artist being signed by the major Records like Spinnin' Records and Ultra Records that get signed and have said that they find FL Studio so amazing to make music so it's not a matter of what program is more detailed or what program is for "professionals" but the fact of how your music will sound in the end to get those crowds pumped up wanting more happy DJing!
A dj's job has always been to get the crowd going. Mixing songs keeps the rythm going, which keeps the atmosphere pumping. The way he mixes the songs isn't important in my opinion, it's choosing the exact right songs for the crowd that night. And maybe the time taken to beatmatch manually would make you miss the perfect moment for mixing in the next song.
Deadmau5 mainly uses Cubase and Ableton ;) FL is a good DAW anyway. Not my favourite but it's just my opinion. Feed Me and Savant use FL as well ;) And Feed Me is hands down one of the best producers out there.
FL Studio is awesome if you know how to use it. I think people are saying that it's for "newbies" because the interface looks simpler than many other DAWs so it seems like it's more basic, but in reality any producer who knows what he/she is doing can make good use of it. Personally, I make a lot of my loops in FL Studio and then arrange and mix my tracks in Ableton.
So true!! Except for one thing, Reason doesn't support VST but is still an awesome DAW. People hate on it for not having vst's but a lot of great songs are made in Reason. Which DAW do you personally prefer? I've tested them all. Started with FL studio, then tried Cubase and Ableton but didn't like them. Switched to Reason for a long time and made some good tunes in it. Now since 2 months I switched to Logic because i bought a Mac and I think it's awesome. But still it's the person, not the DAW
some artists use ableton for performance (madeon, and datsik) Madeon uses FL for making his songs and is a huge spokesperson for them. he uses ableton for performance Datsik produces with logic and performs in ableton Paul Van dyk did the same format as datsik but eventually switched his production to ableton instead of logic
dude a vsti will sound exactly the same in Fl Studio as in Ableton and a sample will also sound the same in both sequencers. ableton MAY have more standard features or plugins idk, but a vst is a vst and a sample is still a sample.
@eerrrrrrfolks I don't understand why people hate on a certain DAW.Yes, some are easier to use than others, or more useful for a certain type of music, but in a very broad sense, most mainstream DAW's used today get the same job done. I've used many different DAW's and the only reason I use Ableton Live now is because of it's extremely fast learning curve and easy to navigate and use. I have also used FL studio, and beside Ableton, that would probably be my second choice.
Good for him. That doesn't make him the end all be all. Different DAWs have different workflows. Some people prefer one to the other. Shit, a lot of artists are still using logic and reason. Doesn't mean they suck.
@congrainshinny I think you misunderstood my comment. I'm simply pointing out the fact that his music and all that he's accomplished is amazing for his age. I'm comparing it to the mixes I make to showcase how good he is for being 18. I fail to see how I "used my age as marketing".
Armin van buuren, Dash berlin, Markus schulz, Gareth emery, Hardwell, Paul van dyk, Above and beyond, ATB, Arty, Mat Zo, Sander van Doorn, Swedish House mafia, and the list goes on... dont get me wrong, i love fl studio because it's fast and easy, but there must be a reason why so many chose to produce with logic.
Yeah just like guitar or piano or any other music making instrument or even just like anything that takes experience as long as your good with music and can feel the rhythm and know the beat you can make music out of anything and make a kicking track that everyone will jump up wanting for or whatever floats your boat. thanks for agreeing i wonder if you use any of these DAWs because i think you understand the rare quality of making music which is not to impress others but to feel it inside :)
@xXAjaxXx yeah but the problem occurs with who plays with these kinds of products. People who aren't really into Dj-ing buy this product and because of the sync function, they're automatically "amazing". I think thats unfair to the people who put lots of time into Dj-ing and love music. I totally agree with your point that the sync function allows for Dj's to spend more time making better sets though, its just that not everyone uses that function for that.
i use fl studio and people totally misjudge me for that!!! but what i think is whatever your best at working with is what you should use! unless you strive on learning new software but i prefer to stick to recognised ground
@cokenEbachio Dude chill. I was just sayin that it doesn't work well with serato because it's really tightly integrated for traktor. and btw both traktor and serato are good softwares and are really similar
When i was watching them setup his equipent, one of the guys rolled out his bag and i was like, omg ive seen that befor!!!! And was waiting for him pull out the s4, he pulled it out and i yelled, the s4 has landed!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to learn the difference between not liking something, and something being 'lame'... Just because you don't like Porter Robinson doesn't mean he's lame. Have you heard Language? That has to be one of the best songs of 2012...
@yahoonoahgmail Fair enough. I've experienced some need to beatmatch manually, like when I have a dubstep song that clocks in at 140 and another dubstep song clocks in at 70. They're actually the same tempo, but auto sync doesn't see it that way. Auto-sync is still a valuable tool though, and if you have your songs beat-gridded properly it's pretty damn reliable. I agree with you, having the skill as a back up is probably a good idea, it's just not the end all of electro djing that it once was.
You could really learn something of richie hawtin. A TRUE pioneer, first one using traktor scratch, etc. A MASTER in controlling, destroying, and rebuilding tracks LIVE.
@D4NI3LGONZALEZZ just install windows with the boot camp assistant on your mac, you just need a windows install dvd (xp, 7 whatever) and run boot camp install.. done
@AdrianHconnection Hell yeh Brother! From what i know, skrillex used it for abit, porter robinson, basshunter, skream and more. . .anyone know of any others who use the legendary software of Fruit Loops ? ? ?
who cares? this is a new era of dj'ing. 98% of the crowd doesn't care at all that somebody can beatmatch. what they care about is hearing nice transitions and songs that make them dance. digital dj'ing has become something that allows people to play out and make use of technology. as a dj, it's your job to please the crowd, and unless you're playing to 500 audiophile hipster beatmatch-dj elitists, hitting sync and making sure your set kicks ass is what makes the crowd happy.
@congrainshinny Completely agree with that. Considering I have no videos uploaded to youtube it doesn't make sense that I would use it to promote myself haha. The only tool I use is scloud and I don't spam my link around the internet and on other people's productions.
He doesn’t need a dj bag now, he has his own festival
you've grown a lot porter
we're so proud of you
this guy made Everything to Me
Fucking awesome. Porter is one of my favorite producers. All of his Electro House mixes he's dropped lately are just perfect. Can't wait to see him live.

What a kid...
look him up now
@@s8v1 best comeback ever!!
vaya humillacion jsjsj
I honestly don't get the point of arguing over DAWs, you are most going to be using 3rd party plug-ins anyway, so they're all pretty much the same
Bass music without Harmor is possible but a lot harder, relies on manual resynthesis, and trying to get anywhere near a decent vocoder sound without Vocodex.
You can still buy those for ableton
i fucking love this video of porter -- he is fuckign hilarious -- love you porter!!
does This video prove that Traktor S4 is clubworthy? Zedd uses S4 too while on tour...
sincerely, from a beginner who is always bullied because he uses S4 at parties..
of course the s4 is clubworthy, zedd used an s4 on ultra mainstage this year hahaha
The s4 is perfection for any Dj.
ignore them, they probably don't know what it means to be "clubworthy" anyways
Bugar Nugroho Everything's clubworthy nowadays! Just use whatever's most comfortable for you to make the best performance you can make.
You're probably getting bullied by uncreative big room djs who wouldn't even go near traktor or remix decks.
They just don't like you for being individual.
2:18 The most inspiring thing i've ever heard from any producer :) Porter Robinson, you are now my most favorite producer ever.
Ohmygosh Porter Robinson is amazing. Just everything he does is... beautiful.
Still true
see this man live and you'll see why he uses sync. best damn dj i've ever heard, and i've seen at least 25+ others.
One of the best DJs ever!
Very fascinating interview. Its weird that PR is 5 years my junior and I look up to him. Thanks DJTT for this.
I am so psyched that my live/dj plan includes all of the things he uses. Hell fucking yeah.
These DJs/producers always look like they're having so much fun on stage! Keep it up! =)
It's actually kinda heartening to see a fully digital setup being rocked to crowd like that.
Very true. I often forget about Reason but they are definitely in the old FL Studio model where they had their own generators and let you cut loose on them. FL Studio Till I Die. Im So Chuffed That Porter Uses It, He's One Of My Favourite Producers!
I use FL Studio myself and i have found so many of the same kind of sounds made in Ableton or Logic and i find alot of artist Underground Artist being signed by the major Records like Spinnin' Records and Ultra Records that get signed and have said that they find FL Studio so amazing to make music so it's not a matter of what program is more detailed or what program is for "professionals" but the fact of how your music will sound in the end to get those crowds pumped up wanting more happy DJing!
it doesn't matter what program you use! as long as you make amazing music that's all that matters
19yo with and attitude like that dude definatley deserves everything hes getting
Porter is the man. I wish I knew what synths and stuff he uses though. Surprising to hear that he produces in FL studio
love that he used deckadance. im transitioning into traktor from that right now. thanks for the encouragement!
A dj's job has always been to get the crowd going. Mixing songs keeps the rythm going, which keeps the atmosphere pumping. The way he mixes the songs isn't important in my opinion, it's choosing the exact right songs for the crowd that night. man respect for porter.

he is awesome
Legend! His EP Spitfire is out now!!!
HE USES OLD SPICE! :O
Well that explains the sudden rise to awesomeness.
I love you. Your awesome! I cant wait to see you on saturday @ the grad in SLO, Cali. ^_^
I respect the work ethic shout out!
@eerrrrrrfolks I'm with you! I'm making it my mission to find all the big names that use FL! I love it!
some artists use ableton for performance (madeon, and datsik)
Madeon uses FL for making his songs and is a huge spokesperson for them. he uses ableton for performance
Datsik produces with logic and performs in ableton
Paul Van dyk did the same format as datsik but eventually switched his production to ableton instead of logic

Haters gonna hate, DJ's gonna play

Well said. Well said.
I use both FL and Ableton love both
The song throughout the ENTIRE video is Porter's "Say My Name"
Cordially,
Your editor.
Good for him. That doesn't make him the end all be all. Different DAWs have different workflows. Some people prefer one to the other.
Shit, a lot of artists are still using logic and reason. Doesn't mean they suck.
Yeah 12thplanet uses Fl and hes one of the best dubstep and house music producers out there
Yes its the standard traktor software that can run on mac os or windows computers
Lenguage is so amazing EDM track.
THIS IS INSPIRES ME!
@congrainshinny I think you misunderstood my comment. I'm simply pointing out the fact that his music and all that he's accomplished is amazing for his age. I'm comparing it to the mixes I make to showcase how good he is for being 18. I fail to see how I "used my age as marketing".

Few do, most turn them of and enable them when they come in handy at a transition
Yeah, that's cause he plays at least a minute of every song, usually more. He used to control his own lighting and smoke fx too.
fucking love you porter
@xXAjaxXx yeah but the problem occurs with who plays with these kinds of products. @D4NI3LGONZALEZZ nope, its adding windows to your hard drive no reinstall needed. just google boot camp or windows on mac
yeah your right, but what kirkmester555 means is not the he is missing the cross faders, but an up and down fader
Porter Robinson JUNE 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i use fl studio and people totally misjudge me for that!!! but what i think is whatever your best at working with is what you should use! unless you strive on learning new software but i prefer to stick to recognised ground
Very cool!
No, with FL. He has a video with Future Music In the Sudio
That has to be one of the best songs of 2012...
thank god someone said it right!
That would have been useful if i could actually hear what he was saying over the noise of the track in the 'background'
As Hardwell says, if the software is there, why not use it?
some dope words of wisdom "work ethic"
Avicii produces with Logic, I believe. But you're right about Afrojack.
so what if they use fl studio? not the DAW, the vst plugins matter.
having an s4 made me a lil happier after seeing this haha
@QuantikMusic Rusko uses "Acid" or something.
But yeah, your completley right.
look up dream by yong tapz X the definition....that is a track I produced, where are your tunes at batty?
So wait, is there a traktor software that allows you to make music?
You said it.
Does he only use the Traktor S4 during shows? Cause i saw the CDJs and was wondering if he used those as well during the show
Anyone else think those 2 midi fighter t-shirts are quite disturbing?
@yahoonoahgmail Fair enough. I've experienced some need to beatmatch manually, like when I have a dubstep song that clocks in at 140 and another dubstep song clocks in at 70. D-Jasper Official. Thank god you're the official D-Jasper. I'd hate to have mistaken you as an unofficial one.
It's all about what software YOU prefer, I use Logic, but FL and Ableton really aren't shit!
I use Ableton but FL Studio has to be the most amazing DAW ever
its cause madeon uses fl studio to produce, he only uses ableton for his dj set
Skrilex used Ableton and a trigger finger and Porter Robinson used the software that comes with tractor
why would he use fl studio? not saying its not powerful enough, but its a trend to use live more with all these electro artists.
He's using AIAIAI TMA-1 headphones :)
@D4NI3LGONZALEZZ just install windows with the boot camp assistant on your mac, you just need a windows install dvd (xp, 7 whatever) and run boot camp install.. done
@C0LDWiR3 I couldn't agree more. More value should be placed on the quality of the finished product rather than the process.
'' I notice you have an s4 in there '' It's pretty fucking hard to miss if you ask me
@AdrianHconnection Hell yeh Brother! From what i know, skrillex used it for abit, porter robinson, basshunter, skream and more. . .anyone know of any others who use the legendary software of Fruit Loops ? ? ?

@eerrrrrrfolks I really respect FL people!
I find it soo shit hard to use!
What software is he running for djing? I totally missed it, I know he's using fl for production.
Porter robinson you are a sick fuck and i love you
@congrainshinny Completely agree with that. Considering I have no videos uploaded to youtube it doesn't make sense that I would use it to promote myself haha. The only tool I use is scloud and I don't spam my link around the internet and on other people's productions.
@McCrackinHouseMusic So you have used FL Studio?
What is that thing next to the S4?? Something with black buttons, is a sound card or something like that?? Thanks
YO ME AND PORTER USE THE SAME DAW
@Asian661 Really!? He's got so much potential!
love say my name 🔥🔥
im getting that setup
