People need to start considering Porter Robinson (including his work as VirtualSelf) as one of the greatest artist of this generation. This is talent that comes by once in a lifetime and theres really no other way to look at it.
Now he has his Air to Earth project on top of all he's done these past few years. I'm damn proud of him working thru his creative slump and coming out of it on top of the world!

Holy crap when I saw his set at edc for the first time, I thought to myself at a certain point during his set that this felt like I was in the matrix and other parts I felt I was in a cyber world. He definitely was successful achieving his vision visually and in his music.
Ashley Rey He always successed to create a new world and he takes you to that place with his musice. He did in Worlds Tour, Shleter Tour and now with Virtual Self. Definitely one of the GOATS of EDM.
Have you ever seen his Worlds live set? I haven't seen Virtual Self yet, but I have seen his Worlds set several times. If you enjoyed his Virtual Self set, and you appreciate how well he can build an atmosphere and create a world around you then you should really try your best to see Worlds Live if he ever does it again (fingers crossed). I think most people who have seen it will say it's the best set they've ever been to.

Idk if he grew up on older european electronic styles or did a lot of researching and learning, but hes bringing a lot of that sound into Virtual Self, which is a good thing. i listened to a mix he did for a radio stream, and i can tell hes listening to a lot of upcoming underground stuff from uk/euro/russia that is unknown to almost all americans: the darker emotional sounds.
His early work and success came from those scenes exactly. If I recall there's an interview of him talking about going to Germany? when he was like 16 or some hella young age like that to DJ at a club. Its amazing to see his evolution thru genres. You're comments old so at this point you can add on his Nurture album via Porter and his new side DJ project Air to Earth.
Ive been listening to porter since he first started. And everything he touches is pure gold.from starting with energetic electro to going to that old school trance sound, it is pure and genuine.
I’ve been a fan of Porter Robinson for three years only, and though I’m absolutely in love with his old music, his new stuff is mind-blowing for me, no matter how different it is (I would say, it’s a whole new world). And the fact that he’s constantly feeling nostalgic about the early 2000s makes me love him even more as I can totally relate to that, too. Also, it’s crazy that he is familiar with a band like t.A.T.u. They were around when I was in elementary school. I would listen to them every day after classes. I love how he's able to channel himself emotionally in so many various ways. Working in confines or being forces to embody a personality is a positive challenge as a creator.
It’s been years since Virtual Self was released and it really has stood the test of time and in fact gets better as time goes on. Can’t wait to see what Porter is planning next post-Nurture
To summarize: The way I see the divide between virtual self and porter robinson is the same way I see the divide between western music and rhythm game music. Rhythm game music is very unique I don’t know how to explain it other than messy, emotional and extremely experimental meanwhile western music is produced very cleanly and not as experimental which is what porter Robinson usually makes and probably the reason he felt he needed to separate this into a fitting alias.
3 years later and still patiently hoping Porter releases new announcements for his VS project 🙏 a shame he never got around to making a video game collaboration project for it like he mentioned, but either way all I'm wishing for is new music and one more chance to experience his sets live in London 🖤

I did not even know who Virtual Self was until EDC. I'm so glad i got to hear his music live.... Possibly the best set of EDC in my opinion haha.
