You know a song is great when a very simple, unmixed, unmaster remake gives you nostalgia.
Ahh I know right!!!
no it just means that the song itself is very simple and badly mixed
@@OrchidIsDead ???

I remade the melody so accurately that I was given a copyright claim for this video haha! I can't collect ad revenue for this video for that reason so help me make the best of this video and hit the like button, subscribe, and help me grow!
I know, and it's neat. Albert Einstein of music
Congrats haha
i don't see the claim in description?
It might have been disputed and they removed it. @@cakewalk4602
@@cakewalk4602 yea I’m not sure why. This was my first claim and it says they’re still checking yet I couldn’t monetize the video while it’s under review.
pls let’s dive more into porter music! there is so much to learn from him
Without a merch line/Patreon link/support method?
@@SnowCocoaCookie Like Shelter!
i would absolutely pay for a really in depth porter robinson focused songwriting course
I am not a subscriber, but I will be to see more Porter.
Language is the song that changed electronic music forever. Porter is one of the best DJs/Producers of our time.
He's also an otaku, which is very cool!
changed electronic music lol stop being dramatic. Avicii, Flume, Daft Punk, Skrillex, Madeon, Justice etc have all contributed more to EDM
@@mattforkan7130 i would say avicii was huge for bringing it into the pop scene and daft punk and porter robinson were both largely experimental in a good way

Porter is a genius in my mind. His melodies and overall production quality are literally unmatched in the genre.
Only 2 artists i put in POrters league is Virtual riot and AU5, these are melodic titans, they know music theory well enough to make seemlingly PERFECT MELODIES
Heard Language when it was featured on Forza Horizon 1 back in 2012. It's been the number one song I've added to every playlist since then.
Idk how to describe it, but it somehow brings inner peace to me, despite it being so upbeat. Could honestly listen to that intro with the piano and plucks for hours on loop
I remember coasting around listening to this song in Forza Horizon. Absolute peace.
That feeling I got from booting up Forza Horizon and sitting at the title screen listening to Language is a feeling I’ve been chasing for over a decade lol
Never played Forza Horizon, but I totally get the inner peace thing. It kinda washes away the stresses of the day.
Language was the reason I NEVER changed off of Bass Arena. And when it came on, I beelined it to the highway to drive FAST.
You must listen to Deadmau5 and Kaskade's music from around 2008-2012 too. My two favorites are I Remember and Strobe which is still my go to for when I want to sit in a dark room and zone out.
I'LL BE OKAY
That was one of my favourite eras of EDM. Such pretty chords and honestly I believe the sound to be timeless, even in light of the current state of confused-BPM techno and rager-mixed-melodic dubstep. Artists like Porter, Madeon, Mat Zo, and Audien did a lot of good work during this time and I still find myself reaching for their songs every now and then and I fall back in love all over again
This time of EDM feels like everything is very positive and motivates you to keep going. That's why I keep beautiful memories of these wonderful years of EDM 2010-2016
Is there a specific name for this era of EDM? I'd love to find more music from this era
@@Maisonikkokufan bump
@@Maisonikkokufan it may be the called the UKF dubstep era. but more so just melodic dubstep
Very interesting, your comment! I really agree this kind of melody feels like a classic sound.
I'm sorry to be cheeky - and I fully appreciate you might not have the time, nor want to - but could you possibly reply with 10 of your favourite tracks by the artists you've mentioned please? In no particular order. Even just 5 songs would be awesome.
Anyway, if you read this, thanks for your time, anyhow.
Every time you revel in the beauty of a melody or sound, your smile is so genuine that it's totally infectious. Equal parts educational and uplifting! Thanks Alex!
Damn, you saying “weightless” to describe that harmony line is just SO spot on. Yet it’s such an equally emotionally heavy feeling as well. But it’s like the heaviness and weightlessness counteract each other. Idk I’m just rambling! Nice video :)
That first transition never fails to give me goosebumps.
And you make an awesome point about transitions.
It's the key element that takes your song from just loops to an actual song.
And the more you create, the more you'll realize transition is someting you have to work on.
The more you work on transitions, the more you'll realize you need changes in your composing.
So working on transitions actually improves you as a composer as well. Isn't that amazing?
When I’m working on my new tracks I probably only am able to do 20% justice to what I’m hearing creatively in my brain. I really need to spend more time on some of that stuff
Y'all aren't talking about the absolute frisbees this man is wearing over his ears?
Yeah! They look fucking absurd 😂
The best headphones I've ever listened with. 2k frisbees.
I totally understand your enthusiasm and the smile on your face. The pure power of positive energy (with a little pinch of melancholy) Porter has put in the harmonic of this music is absolutely heavenly.
Still one of the most uplifting EDM songs ever. A timeless progressive house song... truly a masterpiece.
Porter Robinson was the first to fuse a melodic Trance vibe into the prechorus of an electro-house track with Say My Name in 2010. He was the boy-genius that literally changed the landscape back then. I saw him at Beyond Wonderland that year at the tiny stage and PR was late for his set, so Zedd played an extra half hour. Crazy times.
yeah I dont think so
I saw a similar show in a tiny hall in Rochester, NY. 12th Planet opening for Zedd, then Porter, then Skrillex. Was a wild show - Porter skipped school that day to make the show according to Skrillex when he took the stage haha
There were literally articles written about it in DJ Mag.
This is honestly one of my favourite edm songs, its so beautiful and im glad that there are others out there that understand the beauty of it. When im on uni break i plan to sign up for the bootcamp and videos like this where you share such in depth knowledge make me more confident that i will get something good out of it :)
Looking forward to having you in there (: get some songs ready for me to hear.
@@AlexRome ive had FL for a while but im still very bad with it and havent found my footing yet but ive done a lot of experimenting mostly with chords. I finish uni in about a month, cant wait :)
Ahh 2012. A magical year for edm
I know right. I miss those days so much.
Aha love this, Deadmau5 uses these types of chord structures all the time too. Particularly The Veldt, the chords are actually incredibly similar now I think about it. (Funnily enough they also both released within 10 days of each other, quite astounding!)
I find that these structures often come from starting with a grounding note that persists throughout the song, then chords about built around it, rather than the other way around. That's how I remember Joel talking about his chords on stream years back and I found it to be really useful in my own music
(I've been doing some more googling and it looks like Porter and Joel got into some beef about these two tracks haha! I do believe that this vibe was just the natural progression of EDM at the time and both of these guys just showed how in tune they were with the scene, it seems extremely unlikely for one to have deliberately plagiarized one another at that stage in their careers)
I've never messed with sound design, or heard of this channel before today, but the nostalgia alone earned you a subscribe. Thank you for both the beauty and enjoyment!
Ive seen this live on his shelter tour, even hearing that transition now brings me right back there. Music is so goddamn powerful.
One of the best EDM songs ever so many things to learn. awesome breakdown. Hard to believe how young he was when he made this!
This album has always been timeless
I love how you do this kind of analysis and recreating them. This feels like a video essay but you're recreating the art!!! You bring your viewers/audience in a journey of recreating the whole thing with the analysis.
This takes me back to being front row with my little bro (who was the one who bought me the tickets) watching him play this live at III Points 2022. I get goosebumps and teary-eyed 🥹
What I find so compelling about your content is how excited and passionate you are about the music and techniques you’re showing us. I think it sets your content apart from most other EDM content producers. I find it inspiring and infuses me with enthusiasm when I’m working on my own stuff. Thank you, Alex.
Alex, you really have been a constant push for my own production lately. The tips and insights you give have really made the process of making music so much easier, and im looking to release my first album by January 2024. I hope that what I've learned translates to a great album as i have yet to release any of my music. In the meantime, i will keep pushing and learning. Thank you, man.
These videos make me fall in love with EDM again.
same.
These melody and chord deep dives are so great. There's not much on you tube that focuses on this purely from a music producer perspective. Thanks Alex!
It's a true masterpiece through and through. Glad to hear it's still talked about 11 years later. Great vid
In the nurture version, in his last presentations, Porter changed the drums in the drop and added more variations to the melody that hallucinates even more.
Still my favorite Porter song to this day well over 11 years later. This song feels so cheerful with an undertone of melancholy, and it always brightens up my day whenever I put it on.
this is so beautiful . great breakdown of the details
This is one of my all time favorites. Even the lyrics, which are sometimes an afterthought in this genre, make my head spin. "Let me float back to the place you found me... I'll be ok." is so beautiful and sad, but maybe happy. I don't even know, but it hits me in the feels.
i fuckin love your energy here, you seem really genuinely excited about the music. i really enjoy pop songwriting like this where elements that are relatively simple on their own come together to create a harmonious whole that is far more than the sum of its parts, and i think thats what the form of pop music is about at its core (or at least a major part of it). this song is such a great instance of that. great video
thanks for the video, you always choose the best songs ever!
Man your passion and love for the music is incredible. Not only that you share all of it with us. You put a big smile on my face. Keep it up. Thank you for the the such valuable knowledge you share
This is pure gold. Thank you for this
I always wondered why this very early porter robinson track was still so emotional for me, I absolutely love the nostalgia and the lively feeling it gives you all around. It's grand and vibrant, and I can tell how it influenced his sound on Nurture. This is when Porter defined himself and I love him as an artist
This song is a real piece of art
I envy your knowledge and share your passion! Thanks for really showing us how to not only make the sounds but explaining everything in a way that's understandable. Beast mode!
This video really reinforces how creative Porter is at creating melodies that convey both a lot of emotion and hopefulness. Thank you for the insight, Alex!
Thank you for sharing Porter's song and making this tutorial. It's so beautiful-
When i first heard it i was stunned and just speechless.
Your enthusiasm is always completly infectious! :'-D
Thank you for this video, I love these kind of breakdowns and Porter is amazing
2:21 I remember when Language first came out some people compared it harmonically to Deadmau5's The Veldt and to some extent it's similar but each song has a different kind of magic🖤
Both are my favorite songs🖤
Yeah, I generally love Porter Robinson's sound, but this track sounds like some generic electro house track from 2013. I like some Deadmau5 stuff, like Veldt, but this sounds waaaayy too Deadmau5y.
I was trying to find the song, and when I finally found it, I searched the comments to see if anyone else noticed it! It instantly reminded me of The Veldt from Deadmau5 also!
@@blueberri5366like that’s a bad thing
That song came out like a year later if I'm not mistaken, so if anything The Veldt sounds lkke Language
@@Imnotevenhuman The vocal mix yeah. The Veldt's instrumental was already circulating on the Internet. This is how Chris James contributed the lyrics to the song. Porter may have been inspired by the instrumental. Btw I love them both and both songs are perfect🔥
Your enthusiasm is contagious!!
Bro, you're a BEAST!
from the day i heard language i put it into the little box in my mind with some of my favorite songs, i listen to it sometimes and i really do feel like its gonna be okay
This is my favorite song of all time and I really love and appreciate the thought put into this and the reverence it was approached with. Excellent video.
Thank you so much for making this, the intro has always been my favorite part but I've never seen anyone else make it before, well done :)
Beautiful video Alex
Love how you appreciate the details!
i really love watching you teaching, it's so stimulating seein the satisfaction in what you do and accomplish!! keep going man you're great!
i love seeing how excited you are over how its composed. this is so good
I'd love to hear whatever you made of the remake uploaded.
This melody is so beautiful. I absolutely LOVE that Porter included it as part of his Nurture Live setlist and reworked it in an old-meets-new approach to fit into his sound of today ❤
dude you are awesome!! haha i just started watching but i love how you love music. it's amazing.
this song breakdown is so freaking amazing, cant wait to see more content like this
One of my top 5 forsure
Love the breakdown. No wonder I love that composition so much
your enthusiasm is intoxicating oh my god, loved the video
Love the passion while explaining everything.. This is why music is the best!
Love how you show things so simply just with your own enthusiasm

Language is absolutely timeless and we all knew it the minute we heard it for the first time. Nice video!
love your enthusiasm man
Porter been my favourite artist in and around the genre since I heard this back in 2012, still stuns me how fresh this song feels
I love your videos because they are just as entertaining as they are educating, please keep up the amazing work

i seriously love this vid, man
God. I have loved this song for years on years and it brings such happy emotions to me every time I listen to it. Truly TRULY a work of high art.
Sweet video Alex ! Love your passion for these intricacies
That melody just gave me a huge wave of nostalgia 🥹🧿, long live Porter 🙏
wow never thought about this and learning about it just made the song 10 times better. Great video for an amazing and extremely talented artist.
You look so happy. You enjoy this so much it’s so fulfilling to watch. ❤
Your content is so great. I've been writing music since I was a freshman in highschool. Your videos on mixing and producing have really helped me take my talents (melodies, lyrics, arrangements) and actually get them recorded with a cohesive intention. Thank you!
My favorite EDM song of all time. These melodies and transitions are timeless. They hit me even harder today more than 10 years later!
Dude, great video!
i really love your vibe. You seem legit passionate about this song and its somehow very wholesome... Thanks for sharing
didn't know I would learn a lot for a random video that pop-up on my youtube suggestion list. Thank you so much.
I’m so happy this video exists
This song never gets old
I love hearing it in all types of sets
This is something I’ve been thinking of so much. Every release since Language feels like it doesn’t age AT ALL. Worlds, Easy, Shelter, all the Virtual Self stuff, all of that has aged SO WELL, like fine wine 🍷
Your passion is infectious. subbed
Can’t tell what’s more impressive … the original thing or the fact Alex reproduces it like it’s nothing and gives a detailed explanation on how he did it. Each their own genius.
One of the best tracks ever, and what a video to compliment it sir, wow
Greatest song of all time. Thanks for this one, Alex!
I'm not into production at all, but I love that song and the enthusiasm on you got into me so deeply that I just got the biggest smile aswell. Great job man, and it's really obivious that you just love doing this, kudos
Dude... what a well presented, clear and delightful explanation!
Epic song. So cool you recreated it!
Great video, I love your raw passion for this song and am impressed with how accurate you recreated it!
This is actually a great video, nicely done Alex.
the melody brings back so much nostalgia... saw him at ultra 2012+2013... good times.
I started college and going to raves in 2012 when this song came out. This was the soundtrack to my college years where I made some of fondest memories and best friends. Crazy that those years synced up to Porter blowing up with this beautiful song. I feel my heart break every time I hear this song❤
have to say i don't really enjoy edm but stumbled across this video and found this incredibly interesting and you're enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Thanks for the video!
amazing video. thanks man. learnt a lot. more please!
This was really cool and informative, I'm glad I found your channel
Dude this is amazing. I'm not a producer and only check in on EDM here and there when a song or artist really grabs my attention (I'm more of an alternative rock guy.)
But you are fantastic at breaking it all down. Keeping it engaging, showing so much respect for the original musician and just doing it all with a smile.
You're awesome and so is Porter. Definitely earned a sub. Hearing talented people gush about something is infectious and you my friend are talented.
Just found you and this vid. This is amazing
You earned a sub for this. Perfectly explained & really outlines how this melody easily came together using basic techniques, yet, is absolutely amazing. Top marks for the explanation, thank you.
Such a relaxing video full of love, I adore it :D
