I replaced my refrigerator and am using the glass crisper tray and just have a large white nonslip pad under it. Amazon has tempered glass crisper shelves. For example, a tempered one is $28.39 and measures 23.7 x 15.5 x 1/8". There are other sizes. To have a grid underneath, Walmart online has 5 piece sheets of heavy-duty 22 x 28" poster board for $6.97 or for a lighter duty one the same size online for $4.88. The grids are a light color which could be an issue for some.
I've done this as well, works great! I put it directly on my counter and added a small 1 inch piece of silicone mat on the corners and doesn't move at all.
Ha, I have actually come up with the ink dauber storage option myself: use stackable bead storage jars and actually at one point had them stacked up about a foot long😂. I have a dauber top for each of my Oxide colours , label the jar and they work a treat! Keep the dauber wet, too - so many times I can ink blend something on the quick without having to get my ink pads out. Brilliant!
Thanks for sharing. Neon is 80s which is now retro to our children. I love Tombow Brush Pen markers. You can do a lot with them and your hubby did great!
Thank you, Mary - great info and demo'ing of products. I especially LOVE the Blending Foam Tool Organisers as I am an invalid and craft in my hospital bed, so space saving tools like those are perfect!
Mary, I really enjoy your videos and your classes! Thank you for consistently sharing money saving tools and hacks with us. I appreciate that you keep it real. You deserve to have a YT silver play button. You may not be phased by it but it’s my goal for you because you put out excellent content and you should be rewarded for it.
Hi Mary, would love to see a lot more on the Duo and foiling; also more on the Cosmic Shimmer. I really look forward to your honesty, and really watch for your videos - thank you!
I really enjoyed this video and learned so much! Sadly about three months ago I bought a black glass mat proclaimed to be outstanding by one of the top card-making influencers. The black color makes it difficult to see any ink put on the mat for blending, making notes, not a good choice. Now I see it has a scratch! It was a very expensive purchase, and disappointing as well. Thank you for offering a more cost-effective option for others wanting a glass mat.
I absolutely love this video! You are so honest and I love being able to watch you demo different products. So many crafting tools & supplies are quite pricey, so I appreciate your honesty and your creative thoughts. Mary, you are my hero!!! 🥇
Fun video. Nice mix of stuff. Appreciated the time stamps. The tombow brought back such memories of when I began stamping and we colored all the stamps in and Tombow were just about all we had back in the day. Never pull them out now, with so many inks etc.... also very interesting how the react on different surfaces. Have a super weekend,
Hi there Mary!!!! There is a few things in this video that I already have but I love your videos about Craft Tools, etc. with the lower cost..... Thank you so much for all your research and videos!!!
I LOVE your sense of humor. . . You poke fun at your own silliness and it makes me laugh out loud with you! Oh yeah, and I like the honest comments while comparing different products, which was the real purpose of this video. TFS 😂
What a great compliment; I seriously have as much fun as I sound like I'm having when doing my voiceovers. I feel like you're all right there with me. hahaha...that's crazy!
The stackable foam blender containers I’ve had from Ali for a couple of years and I love them and have a little tip to share that worked well for me. I went through all my oxides and figured approx how many ink colors one blender could do such as light to med to dark of the same color family or tone. Then I took sticker type address labels from Avery that were not the tiny return address size but the little bit bigger and I ink blended each oxide color on them. Let them dry overnight. If you want to write the name on you want to do this next before you distress glaze them. But keep in mind the cool part is you cut these into 3 narrow strips. 1 goes on the stacking containers, and the other 2 you can put on your ink pads. But please use distress glaze on them so if you grab the ink pad or container with wet hands you don’t change the ink color and have to start over. This process was very fast and very easy. I’m planning on doing my CP inks too eventually. I hope this tip helps.
I didn't want you to be finished with the video! I was having a great time watching and learning new stuff. I'm already looking forward to your next one. Thanks for testing these products and letting us see how they do. Very helpful info.
So happy you showcased the glass mat!! I agree the magnets for stencils are not great BUT I have used my MISTI magnets to hold some things in place that I don't need "hold tight". It's great for the grip mats though! Hahahaha! Retro is DEFINITELY my description for neon colors!! I went through that phase waaaaay back lol! I LOVE that you do these videos!!❤❤
If you want a good gilding polish/wax, try Finnabair by Prima Marketing. A little tiny bit goes a long way so it's one of those products that the price is kind of cringy, but you've barely made a dent in it 6 mos. later even though you've been using it a lot. It comes in matte, metallic, and pearl. It goes on really smooth and you can apply it thick or thin. Bonus: It smells reeeaaally good! It's made with beeswax, so you can't put anything over it. Pro Tip: Squeeze the tube into a small container. Cover it with Press n Seal. Put the lid on. If it separates or looks dry, give it a good stir with a toothpick. Some of the colors can look kinda moldy at times. It's just the darker pigments have separated out, especially the green. Give it the sniff test. A few years ago, there was a problem with the manufacturing. Prima replaced all the moldy tins for free, to their credit. That's when those RUclips videos come from. I got 2 of the bad tins. I got replacements right away. It was a one time problem that got fixed as soon as Prima found out about it. There's been no problems since. When they changed manufacturers, they had to switch to paint tubes. You waste a lot of wax by having to squeeze it out onto a palette. If you put it in a container, a little dab will do ya'. It shows up not only on black but is vibrant on white as well. Prima's products are no longer in my budget, because they're kinda pricey, but I still pay for the waxes. They're worth every penny and if you use a light touch with your finger tool, they end up being the same price as the other brands if not a little bit cheaper. If you want to spatch metallics through a stencil, don't use gilding. Use pastes. It's a lot cheaper. You can always add highlights after the paste dries. Thanks for all the revues. They're really helpful! Here's a small payback. I hope you find it useful. I recommend trying Peacock & Antique Gold for starters.
Some time ago I found the stackable containers, without the foam daubers, at Walmart for less than $1.50. The online price was 1 dollar so I got the online price at the register. I just looked online but it seems they no longer carry them, however your local store might have some left over. Look where the beads are. Great video, I love all the tips and tricks, and I definitely love that you as a three year old do the same things as me as a three year old, LOL!!
I've used the duo gel through a stencil, then rubbed gilding flakes onto it when it dried. It's a really cool look that has a more antique-y or distressed feel because the coverage isn't as perfect and smooth.
Thanks so much for all the relevant information for card makers. I agree with the scissors. Smaller ones are fantastic but love the original long blade scissors.
I have used Tombow as my watercolor markers for YEAAAAAAAARS!!! they are not cheap and you can catch some good sales. and HEY, gilding polish comes in LOTS of colors, girl. the dark colors look great on white.
Mary, another awesome video!! You could of been on this for a hour and I would still be watching!! I like the domed containers from Amazon. I have the duo gel and love it!! Looking forward to your next video, my friend!!😀
Thank you, Mary! I saw those knock off Tim Holtz domed blenders awhile back and was curious. I'm so glad you tested them out! I love the little individual containers! Looks like I will be heading to Amazon! Thanks again!
Mary, I am right there with you on expectations of the wow factor, especially bright colors. When I work hard on a card, I want to elicit a smile. I want to brighten their day. By the way, Retro style refers to new things that display characteristics of the past. Most commonly retro is used to describe objects and attitudes from the recent past that never seem modern. Thank you again for all your work to help us and inform us.
Thank you Mary. I love that you just get straight on with the information and give honest opinions about the pros and cons of the products. It is unfortunate that some of the products are not available in the UK but I will try to find similar products. You may like Pretty Gets Gritty Explosion Powders. They have beautiful colours and sparkle.
Thx Mary. As always very helpful. Just wanted to give you a heads up as far as storage for your blending sponges. If you go to your local Albertsons or other grocery store or like CVS you can find those containers at the pharmacy counter. And they come in 7 colors. Or Go to hobby lobby they have those same containers in the jewelry department not sure how many come I a package. But I assure you it will save you money. Been using these for years for my beads.. Hope this helps.
I have the original magnetic glass mat & I was actually disappointed in the magnetic features with re: stenciling. I didn't feel that it held my stencils in place w/o having to use several magnets & then they were in the way of inking the stencils. I now mainly use it for multi-media and have gone back to using the silicone mats/WF grip mat or heck even my gel plate to hold the stencil/paper in place. Thanks for the video!
Right? I feel the same. I use it to hold down stencils while i use embossing paste but ink blending is too risky. I do love them though so much for all the other things.
Oh I’m so glad to see gilding polish! I’ve been so interested in that to color paper if I can’t find the right color of pearlized cardstock for holiday cards.
Thanks Mary. Really enjoyed this video. Sometimes you just don't know how things work or whether they will be any good so I am grateful that you share the pros and cons of the products. It is super helpful.
I love your videos Mary! For the Tombow markers, I like to color my actual stamps, mist with water, and stamp. Beautiful! Also, Tim’s new scissors don’t have the micro serrated blades like the old ones. The only time it annoys me is with fussy cutting, which I don’t do very often. I’ve heard other people really dislike it though so the new ones should be better for them.
I JUST noticed that about the scissors, and so glad they don't have them. It's a smoother cut for sure so I can fussy cut using them. Thanks for pointing that out!
You might try a "porcelain steel" white board -- I had one in my office. The surface was the best white board I ever had, and I used super-strong tiny magnets to hold note cards on it. 2'x3' from $54.
Great video! I use Perfect Pearls (the container is not ideal but the powder is so pretty). I also use that Nuvo shimmer powder. I have many different colors. I want the Lindy's magical powders but haven't purchased them yet. Also, i bought a magnetic glass mat. No bueno. I sent it back. I have a We R memory keepers one. Works fine with the Altenew sticky mat and other uses. TFS! 😊
Mary I bought some very strong round magnets from hobby lobby and they were not very expensive but I have a magnetic glass board that was from the old Slce cutting machine and they work wonderful on my board nothing moves. I would look for them they use to be where glues and basic crafts were but at my store they have moved them. They are the Hobby Lobby brand.😊
Thank you so much for this information. I really appreciate the hours of testing that you have put in before bringing anything to us. Funnily enough, I have just pulled out my only gilding wax (gold) to use on an embossing folder for the first time. I am in love with the duo paste as well. It is really as good as they say it is. What an amazing find for your hubby in the Tombow set! They are nearly out of my price bracket now - so expensive! Your voice over was smooth and fluent and you are either very well rehearsed, edited a lot or a natural! My guess is the latter as your personality just shines! Thanks again for your painstaking time. I have just subscribed.
I'm so glad you're joining me here! Welcome! And thank you for the great compliment and feedback. I would say I'm a bit rehearsed (because of the 8 years I've been on RUclips) but I really just feel like I'm talking to all of you as soon as I hit record. lol Thanks again!
I just love the pixie sparkles and have quite a few colours. I think you chose some of the f the more muted colours. Beyond blue is amazing and try not to be so conservative when using. 😂 A few good taps all over gives a great result. I honestly wouldn’t be without them.
I like the pixie sparkles over brushos. I think they add really fun sparkle, but not enough color. I bought 4, and most likely won't replace them when I run out. I have also used them on journal covers between layers, and sealed with gloss gel medium.
@@marypolancodesigns I don't think they actually say that. I played. I actually have boulevard lights. Its GORGEOUS over other darker shades of brusho.
I shared this encouraging comment with my 11 year old son because it warmed my heart so much. Not sure there's a better compliment you can give someone. I'm so happy to have created a space where you feel joyful enough to want to stay! Thank you for taking the time to share this with me. :)
I love your product reviews mary. Thank you for doing them. I've been looking at the guilding pastes, and so grateful you showed it. I won't be purchasing them. I didn't realize that it doesn't show up on white/ light colored cardstock. ❤
Hi Mary! I always appreciate your thorough and honest reviews of so many of the products on the market. Thank you for sharing. I recently purchased the Duo Gel and I can't wait to give it a try.
Great informative video Mary 🥰 I was glad to hear and see your video. I have thought about the Tim Holtz scissors ❤️ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx
I love these videos like this! Nicely done. I am seriously considering that glass mat... I doubt I would use it for stencils without a grip mat anyway. Just can't see paying so much for one with fancy images and lines... THank you for sharing!
Nice video! Thank you Mary 😊 Now that I have tried Simon Hurley's Solar Pastes, I doubt trying the metallic paste. While they certainly pop on dark cardstock, using them on white card stock has its own magic. Yes the colors are subtle but it packs a lot of shimmer that is simply elegant for Wedding or Birthday cards. Using several colors on white gives hints of the color that shimmers beautifully. You might try that metallic paste again using a brayer on an embossed image? Just a thought LOL. Blessings Mary ❤
Hi Mary, this was fun video. I should pull out some of my,stuff to use. I like the duo gel. I hope you will use the things you got on your next videos for more ideas. Thanks Joyce
I love this kind of video. So many products out there. The more info I can get before buying, the more prepared I feel to make good decisions. Thanks, Mary! BTW, I’ve tried the Duo, and haven’t had great results. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.
Thanks so much for this; I agree, there are a lot of things I would want to see in person before buying. Hmmm...it's possible your sandwich combination is not correct. If you think about it, shoot me an email about the problems you're having, maybe I have some ideas. mary@marypolancodesigns.com
@Mary Polanco, I wonder how the pearl watercolors would look if a second coat was put over the white and black cardstock after the first coat was dried?
Thanks for testing all these for us (& for you, too, I assume). :) I would be curious on the gilding polish if it would work on any dark color - not just black - or even an ink blended/smooshed background that you embossed afterwards. Obviously not white, but I kinda wonder how light you could go with the background color before it wouldn't show up. Hmmmmm.... Also, I would emphasize that (unless I'm mistaken) the transfer gel works only with toner-reactive foil, not the hot foil system foil. I've never used the hot foil for anything, though, so I have zero experience or evidence to back up my claim. LOL As far as that magnetic mat, I wonder if the magnets don't hold as well because it's meant as more of a marker board/magnet board. At least, I assume that's how it's marketed, since you mentioned you can hang it up. If so, I would think it just wouldn't be designed with something "vigorous" in mind like ink blending, that would need a stronger hold. Just my thoughts on that. So I would say if a stronger magnetic "connection" is important, you just might have to pay more. Anyway, thank you again for sharing. Take care, & have a fantastic day! :)
I'll have to try the gilding polish over a smooshed background and love the embossing idea as well. I think it would be awesome. Great point on the magnets, I agree. I think I was unfair in my expectations but do love it for its other purposes and the price!
Hello! I love your videos. They are so helpful. Have you tried or do you own the spellbinder detail scissors/snips? I was wondering between those and the new Tim Holtz ones that you showed here. Does the spring action on the Tim Holtz snips help with fusing cutting like making it easier and faster with the spring besides them being good ergonomically? Also I have those containers for my ink daubers and it is such a space saver. I love them. 😊
I have not tried the spellbinders detail scissors. My favorite up until these are the Cutter Bee Scissors; SO GREAT! I don't think I would say the spring helps me fussy cut; it doesn't get in the way though either. There may be a bit of a learning curve but I do not the spring make it a bit easier on my hand muscle.
Oh my goodness, love this video. Several products I've been wondering about. Did you use the clear or the white transfer gel duo? Thank you so much for your wonderful content.
I replaced my refrigerator and am using the glass crisper tray and just have a large white nonslip pad under it. Amazon has tempered glass crisper shelves. For example, a tempered one is $28.39 and measures 23.7 x 15.5 x 1/8". There are other sizes. OMG I did the same thing about 4 years ago, lol
I've done this as well, works great! I put it directly on my counter and added a small 1 inch piece of silicone mat on the corners and doesn't move at all.

Thank you so much for the recommendation! It's helpful to know about different types; never heard of porcelain steel.
TFS! 😊
Thanks for sharing!! This is all super helpful!
Great to know thank you so much for sharing!
Love this! Was on the fence about neon colors before, so this is very helpful. Actually, everything was very helpful! Greetings from 🇨🇦
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know.
I have the magical powders and tonic studios nuvo shimmer powders. Both work wonderfully.
So great to know thank you!
You can get the wrmk metal machine foiling mat and use the smooth side and magnets. My favorite thing you showed is the neon paste.
Awesome thanks for the tip!
I have some cosmic shimmers. You need to try a blue! Simon Hurley uses fiskars snip type fussy cutting scissors. TFS
Thanks so much for sharing this. I just saw him use them in his video yesterday and wondered about it.
I bought the two different Tim Holtz snips. Hubby saw they and I had to buy a set for him.
That is awesome! Does he like them?
I loved this, Mary!
Thank you so very much! I"m so glad it was useful
Try Tonic Nuvo Shimmer powders. They have a sheen and a lot of intense pigment in them. The results are definitely not meh.
Awesome, just added to cart. I'm easily influenced. haha
Thanks so much for the comparisons and for demo these products x
My pleasure! :)
I agree the duo paste is fantastic! I need to use mine again!
It's amazing! I'm loving it so much
I just love the pixie sparkles and have quite a few colours. I think you chose some of the f the more muted colours. Beyond blue is amazing and try not to be so conservative when using. 😂 A few good taps all over gives a great result. I honestly wouldn’t be without them.
Great perspective thank you for sharing more info about them!
Thanks so much for all that you do and share!
I love Nuvo Shimmer Powders....they have the wow factor!
Yes the Nuvo Shimmer Powders are awesome.
Oooh goodie, I'll have to try them thank you!
I have those and just absolutely love them
I like the pixie sparkles over brushos. I think they add really fun sparkle, but not enough color. I bought 4, and most likely won't replace them when I run out. I have also used them on journal covers between layers, and sealed with gloss gel medium.
Oh so clever! Yes I'm sure they do. And maybe that's their intent and I just don't read. lol
@@marypolancodesigns I don't think they actually say that. I played. I actually have boulevard lights. Its GORGEOUS over other darker shades of brusho.
Gilding polish works great when you have ink blended over the embossing and just want highlights. I have rose gold, and white.
I love the gilding polish look...still. I think I need to try different colors because surely others show up on white better.
The left over paint that you add to watercolor sheets can be cut and used as bookmarks!
Fantastic idea! :)
Mary, I love your videos. You are funny and so down to earth and I learn lots. Thank you.
Awww that's the greatest compliment ever!
Amazing information on saving money and tips with tricks.
Thanks so much for the feedback! :)
AWESOME video Mary
Thank you!! That means so much!
Love your videos so look foreward to them and am sad when they are over. I'll try some of the products if I can find them in Canada 🍁
Yeah that was a bummer! I know it does provide like a shimmery pearl look but I could probably just buy some pearl colored cardstock.
Great video Mary - Thank you! I bought the Pixie Sparkles and too, was disappointed. Not only were they meh but they also shed sparkles like crazy!
Thanks so much for sharing this with me. I felt bad for not loving them but they are pretty, just not my style I guess.
Thanks Mary. I love your videos.
You are so welcome That's so kind and encouraging!
Hi Mary! I always appreciate your thorough and honest reviews of so many of the products on the market. Thank you for sharing. I recently purchased the Duo Gel and I can't wait to give it a try.
You are so welcome! I seriously love this stuff for foiling. I just nee to figure out more ways to have fun with it!
Thanks for the review on the scissors! Really helpful for me.
YAY so happy to hear that. thank you
Thanks Mary! Love your review videos..,always so fun and informative 😊
Thank you so much; this is great and helpful feedback!
Great informative video Mary 🥰 I was glad to hear and see your video. I have thought about the Tim Holtz scissors ❤️ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx
You are so welcome! So glad you're here Joan! :)
@@marypolancodesigns 👍❤️😉
Thank you! You are delightful!
Oh that's a great compliment thank you so very much!
Totally enjoyed watching this video...thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for telling me this! YAY!
I love these videos like this! Nicely done. I am seriously considering that glass mat... I doubt I would use it for stencils without a grip mat anyway. Just can't see paying so much for one with fancy images and lines... THank you for sharing!
Agreed, the price is SO different. I would recommend this one; very cool .
Great video. I was looking for some big, long scissors. Lots of crafty items. Have to get that duo. Thanks for your reviews.
You are most welcome, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this!
Day Glow colors 1960’s-70’s
Hi Mary!
Hiyeee!
Great video. Thank you for sharing your reviews. Very helpful. Im going to have to get that gel stuff for foiling!
It's so good! I love it and no heat needed! YAY
Mary dollar tree sell a pill dispenser that could be used as a sponge dober holder,I'm going to try and see if they fit
GREAT Idea! Love that
I love the solar pastes, they are so interesting; all the dimension of color. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Thank You!
You're welcome! My pleasure!
You're so funny in your videos and I love them!
Awww YAY! Thank you so much for this compliment.
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Hi Mary, this was fun video. I should pull out some of my,stuff to use. I like the duo gel. I hope you will use the things you got on your next videos for more ideas. Thanks Joyce
Absolutely, things in the works. YAY!
Always love your videos!
Awww yay...what a compliment! THank you
@Mary Polanco,
I wonder how the pearl watercolors would look if a second coat was put over the white and black cardstock after the first coat was dried?
Ooooh me too, I should have done that. I'm going to do a Gansai Tambi review soon so I'll make sure to do that then. THANKS!
Enjoyed your video!!
Glad you enjoyed it! YAY thanks for letting me know.
Your videos are always helpful, beside a good fun. T4s
Yay thank you so much!
i have been coveting the Lindy Magicals. They seem to be excellent powders. Not sure if they are as shimmery as the Cosmic powders.
Just put them in my cart! YAY !
Great review!
Thanks! I appreciate it so much!
I’m just cracking up. You’re hilarious!!
Hehe! YAY So glad you're having fun with me! LOL Thank you!
Love this video. ❤
Thank you!!
I have the glassboard studio glass mat; the magnets don’t work there either.
Yeah not for ink blending; I use them for embossing paste but don't have the confidence for ink blending. lol
Great vid! Thanks..
Thanks so much! :)
Ah ok. Thank you very much. ☺️
Wonder if the magnets from a scrap easel would work
I don't have it but great question!
Have you use Lindys gang powders? They are fabulous
I’ve been very tempted myself….
Not yet but hear great things! Maybe another video is in the works.:)
Love this. TY!! Don't like the Misti though. Yuck.
Thanks so much for the compliment! I'm glad it was helpful.
Oh my goodness, love this video. Several products I've been wondering about. Did you use the clear or the white transfer gel duo? Thank you so much for your wonderful content.
Ya know...I just looked and it doesn't say.dries a bit clear I believe.
@@marypolancodesigns I just found out that the white one is called Transfer Gel Blanco....thanks!
where is ur big balloon stencil from? i love it please
That is from Scrapbool.com. They restock often so here's the link: shrsl.com/4kqkm
Thank you! So helpful!!
I'm so happy to hear that, thank you!
