Its cool that you take your time to teach them your way, but I guarantee your student/s will only use a GPS after they are off your truck 🤷

At least the student has the knowledge to read interstate maps and is being taught the right way. Not like half these steering holders who follow a GPS and end up in no truck routes.

Teaching to use the map is the right way to go. GPS is great but the map must be use to plan trip. Plan and verify.

You can follow them all you want. My job as a trainer is to teach him everything on how to route plan his trip 🇭🇳👍🏽😎👍🏽🇭🇳
It's not the 80s or 90s, correct. However, when and if there is ever a satellite issue and no GPS signal is available, you will hope to have an atlas and know how to read it.

Great training. You definitely will need to know how to read an atlas, especially if something happens with the gps or it may try to take you down a road where trucks are not allowed. I remember back when my stepdad drove trucks. All they had was an atlas and paper logs. Also, if you had good directions, you could make it to your destination without problems. Wasn't a such thing as gps or cell phones.
