Really useful video, I was looking to find out how in the hell I gain access to the timing cover with the engine installed... now I know! Thanks man :)
Is this something that’s covered in a service? Or do u have to take to mechanic specifically for this task? Mins is at 2900 miles, should I be getting them checked ?
Thanks you mate for this useful video great help !!! To do this annoying valve clearance could you list me what tools I need to do so ? Many many thanks in advance and safe riding 👍👌😎
I wonder if this is the reason why my mt is losing power on acceleration specially on uphills. Feels like she's bogging down while on high revs then slowly about to have the engine turn off by itself while giving it gas unless you stop for a bit. Then when you do stop for a bit, and then go she accelerates fine again. Up until you reach another inclined and give it gas and it bogs down again.
So, when did you first do the valve clearance check/adjustment? I found a nice prospect, a 2017 mT with 18000 kms on the clock. It has been well maintained by PO, but he didn't know about the mandatory valve clearance check every 6000 kms... so... not good, right?
Lars Erik Kolden I went to a Yamaha garage and they said that the MT125 is fine until 16,000 miles because the clearances do not wear away as there are roller bearings fitted. I pre-emptively adjusted mine.
Can you show me how to remove the starter motor from the MT 125? I already tried but I don't have space to remove it. I have to disassemble something else to remove
Iv one with less than 500 miles doing the same seems to go away above 6 to 7000 rpm tho they seem to think its valve clearances hope it works because its really annoying and they also told me the engines burn alot of oil for a brand new bike it's not filling me with confidence
Hey! I decided to adjust my valves but when I opened valves cover I saw this: my rocker arms have movement on TDC. Exhaust rocker arm have bigger movement than intake. If I tapping on Exhaust rocker arm it makes a tapping noise because it have a small gap between camshaft. is that ok? Or not? What could be wrong? Camshaft? Rocker arm? BTW engine have only 14k km. Ty
*ŽilvinoKanalas* perfectly fine if the the valve clearance is to spec. Be sure to double check, if you hear load tapping when the engine is hot, the clearance is probably too great.
@@125ccbiker9 valve clearance seems ok, maybe I will adjust just a little bit. I am adjusting because my engine have loud tapping noise even on cold engine. And I don't know where the problem could be. BTW I have Wr 125, not mt, but they have same engine :)
*ŽilvinoKanalas* upon startup, the oil is cold. This will result in less sound being transmitted. My point is the sound can be judged when at operating temperature. Have you checked and reset your cam chain tensioner?
@@125ccbiker9 yeah, I checked my tensioner it seems ok. When I reseted my tensioner I thing the tapping sound was redused a little bit. Also I checked my cam chain, and it seems alright too.
My tappets weren't tapping but was losing power it was my alarm getting sucked into intake on air flow but I was advised before I knew this to have my valves checked I thought ok because it has 10000 miles on the clock first guy set them twice they weren't tapping then they were I took it to someone else recommended he set them they are even louder? Any ideas oh and I put fully synthetic oil in 600 miles before checking the tappets and it ran fine I added ms02 additive it's now with a 3rd guy 2 have told me don't use fully synthetic or additives as the oil does the job so I'm stuck it wasn't tapping and only since 2 people so far have adjusted them there tapping like he'll any ideas?
Hmmm. The fact the first guy did them twice sends some alarm bells. Upon measuring the clearances, one should ideally write down roughly what each valves spec was to fully justify the adjustment. I presume you were provided with this if it was a garage? However, I wouldn't worry about the tapping. I actually experienced the same and have concluded that it's fine. Low mileage Mt's are inherently tappy and as you put on miles the clearances get smaller, strangely. Furthermore, I spoke to a mechanic and he said due to this particular engine being fitted with roller bearings somewhere within the feedback system, you don't need to get the valve clearances done until 12,000. Rant over.
@@125ccbiker9 thanks he took no notes. He didn't even check tdc by turning the crank with the cover off he took the spark plug out and did Tdc by looking at the piston? Do you think it's damaged my valves?
@@125ccbiker9 yes it ticks like crazy it's all you can hear above the aprovich exshaust then when your riding it's a constant noise due to the cam or tappets slapping the valve so fast I've not rode it more than 6 miles and it still ticks
funy how valve clearence closes not widens, as for the oil, i go by couliour change not miles or time sulpher can build up , i used to carve wood and i tested used engine oil against new engine oil to see if there was a diffrence in the bite of the chisel on the stone, black oil was the same as new oil . ps i tried gear oil and almost coudent feel the carborandiom stone through gear oil.
You sir, are a hero. Been trying to find out how to do this for ages. Thanks a lot my man.
You are an angel among us

If the fairings removal is as bad as a yzfr125 then they would be a pain in the butt. You cant remove one without the other next to it …
Thinking of doing valve adjustments at home, but how did you find the right valve clearence? I have to know 100% that its the right clearence
Feeler gauge

What did you set ur inlet and exhaust valves? Unsure what best to set mine if just best go in middle of the specified measurement

My tappets are fine adjusted but my rocker arm is loose how do I tighten it many thanks
What valve is intake and what's outake
My brother MT is making a tapping noise but goes when revs could this be the valves needing cleaning??
The engines do rattle alot I wouldn't worry, if it only does it after the bikes warmed up then it's the valves
what program do you use for video processing?
Cool Video!
Is there a gasket for the valve casing
yes

What's the clearance interval on the MT 125?
Bikers Quest I believe it’s 3500 miles
@@125ccbiker9 Their Shim and bucket type valve have intervals of 24k + miles, more difficult to adjust but much less often

5 Years.
