I'm just fascinated watching you cutting this gemstone. Wish that I had planned my life differently and gone into the jewelry field. As a young person I could have mined and collected the rough gems and spent the rest of my life cutting and making jewelry. You really did make good life choices!

Quick question I have a few big pieces of Alexandrite that I want to seek two are in the rough One I almost have polished ,how do I go about selling them ? I Know they would be worth more cut .I seem to be having a problem with some kind of film in the stones im working on keep in mind I'm just a self taught individual not a gemologist with access to lapidary tools ,with that in mind what can do to take it off ? Hi Steve, I've just started cutting the table on my first stone today. And I have to say after cutting all the other facets this table facet is making me feel quite nervous. I've cut some of the table, but it just feels like If I'm not careful I could tear the stone off. Cliff
Tables are tough but if you attached properly it should not be a problem. Sounds terrible when polishing as everyone in the shop can tell when you are polishing the table.

We do not. We only cut colored gemstones. Diamond cutting is very similar, but they just use slightly different equipment and techniques.

We've never used one, so unfortunately wouldn't be able to give you a review. If you look at our introductory video (video 1) description, we have a couple machines that we recommend on there.

How come the machine goes from zero to 118 in terms of rotation? I presumed it was in degrees, but that wouldn't make sense.

I wish if you could guide me how to get faceter calibaration chart plz
We generally (when possible) send it back to the manufacturer to have the machines calibrated. Unfortunately two of our machines are no longer manufactured/in business, so if we have calibration issues we will need to find another method as well. If you find out any information on DIY calibration, please let us know!

Unfortunately we don't do any outside cutting work. All the gems we cut are to sell in our shop as a loose gem or we custom design a mounting around the gem for our jewelry stock.

Have you ever cut padparadscha?
Yes just last week I did a recut of a 4.87 carat natural unheated padparadscha sapphire. It was poorly cut with a large window. I closed the window increasing the brilliance significantly. Finished at 4.42 carats. Just went out to the Gemological Institute of America for a lab report. I previously had it graded to make sure it was the real thing before I spent the time cutting. A great stone of significant value due to its extreme rarity.
