  • The Yonkers Police Motorcycle School was created in 1992 and started as a 5 day course. It has evolved into a 10 day instructional school that includes classroom, cone courses and field rides. Upon graduation all graduates are provided with a DCJS certified diploma. Throughout the years and through input from many different instructors from numerous agencies this school has developed into a challenging course that attracts potential motorcycle officers from throughout the New York Tri State area. This is a collaborative effort that includes instructors from MTA, NYPD, Yorktown(Sgt. Paul Dillon), New Castle, Greenburgh, Bedford, Clarkstown, Dutchess County, Putnam County, Westchester County and Stamford Ct. This school has an extraordinary success rate and is a credit to these very instructors. This years students came from the following departments: Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, White Plains, Larchmont, Harrison, Eastchester, Clarkstown, Duchess County, Putnam County, Stamford Ct.

It was unprofessional to brandish a firearm like that however the cops are partaking in an unprofessional event ceremony. cops are trained to pull their guns from their hips in a quick fluid motion using security level II-III holsters. This takes multiple steps and proficiency to do, If he was actually going for his gun, it would’ve been pointed at the camera in less than seconds.

I did the Motorcycle Rider Course at a HD dealership but wanted to learn more. Came across 'Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino' and started practicing on my own and hope to attend one of his franchises that is close by when it warms up. The techniques you guys learn are valuable no matter what you ride. Too bad that the public can't attend your courses. Good work with the footage and not bad video editing.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857 7 лет назад +89

      Not really. H.D's are tough bikes that can carry plenty of weight. They are the most maneuverable of the heavy weight motorcycles and much more comfortable than say the BMW RT1200 police bikes and much less money to purchase ( about 17K) than anything else and the resale is better than most. Since we don't chase, sport bike performance isn't needed. The Victory's were pretty good but at 35K, way too much money and now they're out of business. That's why most agency's use Harley's.

    Beautiful just Beautiful...I was an instructor with the Calgary Police Service and the Alberta Sheriffs, put in over 30000 hours of training time,most of the time was on the HD steele steads as you can see in this video, boy does this bring back memories, taking a fresh officer and turning said officer into an Awesome Motor Cop. We did the same off road, lots of gravel roads, head and eyes, break, throttle, clutch. Keeping it smooth and only one foot down, and if the bike want to go down walk off. Roll off the bike, pick it up and keep practicing. The rear full lock braking we did on grass, helped in controlling the bike and save the rear tire. Did this for over 20 years and still have a big passion for operations and officer safety...Oooo plus my wife has turned out to be a better operator than me, She came out to a lot of courses and was very protective of my training officers and looked after them and their families during training time which was 80 hours. AS always Cops also need heros and Motor Cops are that....LOL. God keep you safe, and Ride With Pride.

    I think their choice of gear is a bit weird.
    1. Why don't they wear proper safetey equipment. A shirt and pants won't protect you in case of an accident and you will look like a peeled potato with your skin covering the asphalt.
    2. Why are they wearing their gun on their hips while riding? In case of an accident your own gun while more than likely break your hip and cause enormous internal bleeding. Here in Europe it is pretty common for motorcycle officers to wear their gun in a fanny pack holster
    3. Why are they riding Harleys? They are super heavy, expensive, slow, allow very little angle, have terrible brakes and require a lot of maintenance. Doesn't seem like an obvious choice for a police motorcycle

In Ireland I had to undergo 4 weeks of intense training (including off road training like that) and the slightest mistake was noted and commented on - sometimes with a liberal dose of expletives thrown in. I passed in the end but my instructor hated me and would have failed me if it had been up to him. The final test is always done by another instructor who was not directly involved in training the people he is testing.

      Nadejda Schmidt in the Netherlands There are two types of motorcycles in use; the BMW K1600GT(heavy duty/high speed) and the BMW 1200GS(light duty/all-terrain). I'm sure both can outperform a Harley any day, hell, any bike can outperform such an overpriced, shit quality 'murican Harley, the 1600 has enough storage and probably way better electronics and agility in the hands of an equaly skilled rider then a Harley and the 1200 can handle pretty much anything, the only two reasons two bikes are used is due to preference of having better fairing and wind shields, coupled with higher speeds on the 1600 and having the agility and cost-effectivenes of the 1200

But I still feel like a sport touring (for urban/highway) or dual sport (universal) would be much more maneuverable, and better suited to the tracks the Harleys were on. Anyone care to explain, or is it just something you'd have to ride it around to realize?
