The issues for the main recovery companies has been the same for about 5 years now.
If they are having trouble managing the volumes, then they shouldn’t be accepting new customers. But it seems with companies owned by Private Equity, there is a disconnection between income and service. Happy to take the premium, then fail to provide the service that’s been paid for.
As for the priority service. I have seen this excuse used to explain poor response times. They tried it with me, and I asked whether the priority groups pay extra for the better service? To provide a different response because of factors such as gender or whether children are in the vehicle seems like discrimination to me.

Matt your Maypole would have got you re-started and allowed you to move the Alpha to the layby 👌 Sam

I'm trying to do research on breakdown cover. Having a 13 yo main car, a 30yo classic, a large caravan, and a 23yo motorbike, there are quite a few boxes to tick. I've definitely seen way more horror stories about the RAC than any of the other major names. Its not all bad though, they do seem outstanding afterwards at travelling apologies for letting you down..!

My partner broke down in his car which is a WAV taxi and he explained that because it was under warranty he was advised that the car should be taken in a trailer by breakdown as they felt with the engine light bright red it was a major issue - this happened during the cold snap - it took the patrol man 9 hours to attend my partner who was freezing but then it got worse as the patrol man could not take him to the garage and said he would get someone out to him first thing the next morning - so he had to be picked up and brought back however they never came the next morning as they had no-one so we had to use a private contractor but RAC refunded that cost. But my partner could not risk that again so changed breakdown suppliers .
The next time was with me in my electric wheelchair on board in our 28 foot Kontiki motorhome & we were covered by Autoguard - they ended up calling 26 operatives who all said they could attend until they knew the length - 7 hours later the Highway Patrol came out as a last resort and helped us - not good as we were in a motorhome on the M11 !!!!
It was blamed on the weather - lack of patrollers and the huge amount of electric cars that broke down !!!
Now with Mayday for the MH which I hope it a great deal better.
