The most complicated prolong way to make Custard sauce ! Could well be done in just a few minutes on top of boiling water bath, cool then wrap and chills!
Simply prepare a thick Custard in few minutes ( Same technique as " Hollandaise " ) Whips in COLD BUTTER , ICE COLD MILK to Cool, fold in Whipped Cream, in my case " Cool Whip " ! Custard Cream the same ingredients as Creme Diplomat ! Afterall, recipe labels as " Custard Cream " isn't it ??? " exactly the correct technique " ! Way too many unnecessary procedures ... and you don't think so ?
If you're to mix two pre-made things yes, it is more complicated. But if you don't have cool whip where you live and boxed custard sauce, you'd need to start from scratch. Also creme patisserie is more foolproof to make than custard sauce, less chance it curdles. If you're going to get caught up on the name, I myself call creme diplomat "my egg cream", but I still make it this way because it's superb in taste than store bought , and it sounds less pretentious.

Lovely recipe, may I recommend adding the vanilla after the mixture has cooled down? You lose flavour if you add vanilla essence while it's hot
