    splashproof keyboard on all thinkpads is an amazing feature we need to reference more often. especially when apple was out there offering laptops that have keyboards that break due to dust up to last year. i had the the bad lack to use that feature. the only thing that broke was the left mouse click on my e495, wihich i still haven't manage to use isopropol alcohol on it. still it had water on like 10 other keys and i had no issues nor i need to wait to resume work. since it is possible i feel every laptop keyboard should be at least at capable to withstand moisture. it is a really small investment for the company, but it improves the quality of life for many users expontially. also less wastes sinces i ddin't have to threw away neither the keyboard or in a worse case scenario the laptop.

    Great review. Actually, I was looking for the T 14 with the AMD, so here we are shopping for a P14s, the T14 in disguise. Going with 32GB RAM in dual. Compared to the T14 Gen 2 with the MX450 it seems that the situation will be the same. Overall still slightly better performance at a better price point. the lack of a card reader is a bummer though.

    Appreciate the review. I looked at all the alternatives and here in Australia they all come with 250 nit displays (the t14 is only 6 cores), lower end CPUs, 16gb RAM soldered on, and more expensive, sometimes by over $1000. I got this machine for $1448 ($1125 usd) and I'll be happy with it. It's way better than my 4 year old HP x2 g2 which could never be upgraded past windows 1909 (2004 is officially unsupported). I don't need discrete graphics, I'm not a gamer. I only do work my smartphone can't handle and wanted a top performer for zoom calls and that microsd card reader is awesome for me to transfer stuff to/from phones easier. The gen 2 usb c port will be plenty to drive my 2x 1080p displays from a dock so I'm happy.

    T14 vs T14s Which is a good consumption?
    I fell in love with the 14s, but I wonder if the difference in weight between 1.2kg and 1.47kg feels great.

      P14s should run great with those. You'll definitely to buy it configured with more than 8GB of RAM, or you can do like I did and buy the baseline model and upgrade the RAM yourself. Taking the backplate off was a bit of a pain in the ass, but that's because the backplate is firmly held in and is not flimsy like the backplate on most laptops. I forgot to tighten the screws back in after putting the backplate off and I didn't notice a difference at all (but I still put the screws back in after discovering this)! Once you pop off the backplate (don't forget to take the SIM card tray out beforehand), the single open RAM slot is easily accessible. You can also upgrade the NVME drive too on your own.

      This is still the "gen 1" version, it's been out since before the 5000 series was announced. Presumably the next gen 2 version will have the new 5000 series CPUs, but who knows when that will come out

      I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Lenovo is going to make another AMD version. The 11th Gen Intel is probably considered on par (or close enough), it has thunderbolt, and they may not see a reason to make dual versions. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the wind is blowing that way.

    Still doesn't beat a good T480

      Each has their pro's and con's. The P14s AMD is much, much faster than the T480 although it does lose out on a hot swappable battery and Thunderbolt.

    While I do agree that a GPU would be nice, the P520 & T500 aren't any better than the Vega 7 graphics. All that adding a GPU (of that variety) would do is decrease battery life & increase thermals

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  3 года назад +1

      Totally agree, it's a balance between performance and battery life/thermals. That's why manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have this new category of mobile workstations with 'low end' GPU's. Not quite convinced. As you say, are they any better than the integrated GPU models?

    • @anew742
      @anew742 3 года назад +1

      @@Dovecomputers According to NotebookCheck, the integrated Vega 7 graphics are slighter faster on average than both the P500 & P520.
      Neither are crazy powerful...I suppose if you need a good GPU, the Legion laptops are an option
      Still strange that they don't have a higher-end GPU option outside of the gaming laptops, unless you want a dumpy Intel CPU

      @@anew742 Because most workstation buyers want thunderbolt..... or at least enough of them do that Lenovo isn't going to bother.
