Good review. If I can give you one piece of advice then it's to throw in another stick of RAM so that it runs in dual channel mode. It will give you a small speed boost.
I can confirm this review. I'm coding in C# on a T14, mostly hooked up to USB-C docking station with 2 addtional screens (yeah, you don't need a thunderbolt port for that). It's pretty quiet, though it blows pretty hot air out of the side (I prefer that to Dell Precission, which sound like a vacuum cleaner and you can't really feel any airflow anywhere). The keyboard is just amazing, touchpad is meh (if you ever used a MacBook before, the touchpad is a nogo, sadly). I chose this one moslty because of IO - plenty of ports, including Ethernet. Sometimes I go to a client site and when I need access to their network, instead of usual funny business with WiFi certificates, I just plug in a cable and it's ready to go. The processor is plenty fast, last for hours and hours, the only real downside is the touchpad. You can get used to it to the point where it is a no-issue, but then you get on something like Dell XPS or MacBook and you are suddenly aware of the difference.
Same on the Macbook Pro point, I was going to get the Macbook Air M1 maxed out on specs but the price point just wasn't there, not being able to personally upgrade that device myself is really the main reason I didn't get it. Just purchased a Lenovo T14 AMD Ryzen 7 with 16GB soldered RAM, their smallest SSD hard drive, and the low-power 400 nit screen for $1K on Black Friday. Purchased SEPARATELY a 32GB SODIMM 3200Mhz LPDDR4 Crucial Ram Chip (Machine has 48GB DDR4 3200Mhz total now, 16GB Soldered, 32GB SODIMM) and a SEPARATE 1TB SSD Samsung drive totaling $280 from Amazon for Black Friday. So Basically, I fully maxed the Specs on this machine for around $1,300. This machine is a beast and will last me for years, unbelievably great price on it.
@@ebloulou4203 nothing is flimsy on this laptop especially the keyboard, that is as good as it gets in terms of keyboard, glad Lenovo finally fixed the screens previous models had horrible screens dim and low color accuracy
Thanks for the review. Currently, the T14 AMD 4750U is on top of my list for my next laptop. Just haven't pulled the trigger on it. You mentioned that you're running solely on the soldered 16gb memory and will probably upgrade in a year. Why not upgrade now? It looks like you can get a 16gb DDR4 3200Mhz SODIMM for around $60 and then you would be running in dual-channel mode and would probably get a nice boost in performance (Just my 2cents).
Great review man, I'm pretty much about to do the same thing as you. Older (pre Ryzen boom) thinkpad, to gaming laptop with horrifically loud fans, to T14.
Im in the same boat kinda. I bought the g14 from best buy and returned (it wouldn't turn back on after sleep mode and had to hard reset every time). but now looking at lenovo esp this model, except now they have long delivery times for the customized ones lol Thanks for review 👌
i bought this in the i7 intel version 16gb + 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, 4k 500 nits display all for 800 AUD, not sure why anyone would spend twice that much on a mac with no ports, no upgradability option and crap keyboard i would argue the 4k display i got would rival that of a macbook only thing lacking is discrete graphics
As I watched this, T14 is still in my lenovo shopping cart. The model on cyber Monday offer has everything I need except a 256gb hard disk, which is too small IMO. Still contemplating if I should hit the check out button. Only if it comes with 512, hmmm....
What type of battery life are you getting on this? I'm planning on getting this for medical school (ppt heavy) and I do some video/photo as an amateur (5% use case). Still curious about the battery life regardless of workload
Hey, just bought mine today, I think I messed up because in my opinion maybe the T14s maybe is more worth, what’s your opinion? And another question, how much longs the battery? I haven’t finished the vid yet so idk if you say it. Keep it going man!
I went with the T14 because of the upgradeable RAM and the availability of the ryzen processor i wanted. I think the T14S is smaller though. Battery is solid, using it mostly plugged in, but lasts several hours. Still new so I know it wont be as good over time but I've been happy with lenovo batteries in the past.
I also went with the T14 because it has better cooling (2 fan exhausts instead of 1 on the T14s), the user upgradable ram slot (which I already upgraded with a 2nd 16gb ram stick), better audio (top firing speakers instead of bottom firing), and cheaper....... the T14 is plenty compact - waaaay thinner than my work Thinkpad a few years ago.
The T14 is better for a few reasons. Better cooling RAM upgrades Better audio Cheaper AAND an overlooked one. The T14 keyboard is not molded into the frame. So if you spill something on it and ruin the keyboard or it breaks somehow, you simply pick up a 30 or 40 dollar replacement and slot it in. Where as on the T14s you have to remove a ton of stuff to get to the keyboard. IMO the T14s is not worth it compared to the T14, especially for the price
@@PaulMillerd yeah, getting my T14 in december, I think it is a lot better because it’s more upgradable and also have better cooling which is crucial for me, I also prefer bigger laptops than the thin ones. Also I checked out and battery perfom great in both laptops so T14 is a lot better in my opinion and also is more cheaper than the T14s. Excited for my new Thinkpad to come! A great machine with a good price if you know how to buy. 🔥 Also I had a 16inch Macbook like you but I didn’t like it and returned it because the cooling system and the benchmark was not that good for the high price of that laptop.
The 4750U should still a lot faster in multicore compares to M1. M1 do has faster single cores. Depends which kind of workload, both should deliver fantastic jobs.
I am so eager to buy this laptop and waiting now for its availability in my country; however, I am so sensitive to the issue of overheat. Could you please let me know about your experience with the temperature of this amazing laptop? Thanks in advance
