Unusual work wonderfully executed. It would frighten me to even look at the score!

In almost a year of scouring RUclips for videos of M. Latry, I finally noticed this one because of a teaser at the end of the Guilmant video. It doesn't even say Olivier Latry on it, but guess what -- I recognized his hands in the photo. Glad I found this!

Monsieur Latry, to imagine such a few have seen your wonderful performance (all of them) saddens me. But I am lifted by the joy of your performance on Les Grand Orgue . Merdi beaucoups.

This piece should have been originally written for organ.

Wonderful, but I hate the transcription of the part starting at 7:31, sounds extremely messy...

I can't help thinking, "What a drama queen Liszt really was! I love it. And how she and Wagner really did lay the musical foundations for what we now call 'Hollywood.'"

@@iamrepete Both Liszt and Wagner... drama queens. There's nothing like using the pronoun "she" when these guys start sounding like drama queens to stop them in their tracks. Works every time.

how can anyone learn that by heart?!?!?!

    • @crazyorganist1609

It's actually quite easy. You play it over and over till it sticks. I'm a professionally trained organist myself and it's not difficult to remember a piece

If I'm being honest it's a ton easier for me to learn and play straight from memory vs reading off music.... i can't always play fast enough while reading music... so more challenging peices I'll memorise first then get it up to tempo.... most classical organists can memorise pretty easy... my teacher had me start memorizing pieces after the first month... i do pretty well these days reading music but it was trained so early on it becomes habit.... i generally memorise all the music for every recital/ concert i do... my mentor says it's a great skill and in his opinion it allows you to play from the heart.
