Some of us older folks remember transparency sheets. I use them for crafts, but I believe they are still available in office supply stores. If anyone still has kids or grandchildren with the supplies for the rubber band bracelets that were so popular several years ago, they could do for the elastic band. The foam could be the hardest thing to get hold of. I will be searching through craft supplies, moving supplies (still unpacking!), and pillows. Even upholstery foam can be cut if you don’t need that cushions any more. God bless you for getting me started!

I made a reusable cloth mask with a pocket that can hold a coffee filter inside. I also made a face shield; I couldn't get the right material for the shield so I cut a piece of the plastic bag that my comforter came in, and bind it around the edges with the same cloth I used for the mask; looks great! On your face shield go to Lowe's and buy a row of rubber insulation to go around door it already has sticky on one side would work great and would not be too big the sticky is designed to hold on metal and things so it should seal to that real good

I reiterate: Dr. Yang - you are a very creative man. I spent years studying Architecture/Italian Design in NYC & in Italy. What you are doing is creating from your imagination. People can also get a hat display form and drape material over it to design their own shaped mask. I have experimented with all kinds of materials, designing several shapes. You can even drape fabric on your face (using yourself like a mannequin). People comment on my colorful masks. I suggest to your audience, that if one has DIY 3M goggles, they protect the eyes and hold up the mask. 🌹🤓🇺🇸🇬🇧

Dr. Yang “Resourceful” is what we need to be. Good job! I am a sewist and have been making cloth masks for family members. I discovered Halyard H600 it took some time to get all the items together, some were out of stock etc. Downloaded that pattern and now I am ready to make these masks. I have worked In the health care field in-hospital and out-EMS. I am older now. So I stay home. If there is anything I can do to help I would be grateful to know. I'm not a health professional, but I have underlined health issues so I'm more at risk and the regular face masks aren't 100% for keeping the covid virus out, so this face shield provides extra protection. You’re welcome. If you are not a health professional, there are some nice DIY Faceshields which use 2 liter bottles or sheet protectors which are less expensive. It costs about $100 in supplies to make 110 face shields, but the plan was to make them in bulk. The design of this face shield to try to match the size and features of a hospital approved face shield. instagram.com/p/B_So5tND_G-/? Hospitals have rules and regulations, so I worried if the faceshield is green or uses colorful fabric trim, that everyone would notice that they are not using a hospital approved face shield. These look the same so, if they are wearing it in the hospital, no one will notice that these aren’t the real thing. Hope that makes sense.

It’s okay. I appreciate your comment. I think everything will be okay. Why? In New York, our curve flattened, people stayed home, 50-70% are wearing masks. Many people died, but new cases are going down less hospitalizations. Everyone who needed a ventilator got one. You don’t want to use the insurance but you feel safer know that you have a safety net just in case. This way they feel hopeful less worried. Now I’m working on making other DIY face mask videos to try to reach as many regular 🇺🇸 or other western countries who want to wear masks, but have not been wearing masks like in 🇰🇷 , 🇹🇼, 🇨🇳 , 🇯🇵. Most Americans are just getting used to wearing 😷 and may not have any or are reusing dirty ones or touching the outside then touching their face before washing their hands. If we can help them make masks easily, teach and educate how to use them properly or convince those people who don’t want to wear the masks, we can flatten our curve so we don’t have to run out of ventilators or beds. I’m thinking if I can save some people from getting sick by education each one saved is worth exponentially many more from getting sick which means the healthcare workers don’t have to use as much PPE and see as many sick people, in which some will die. 😔

You can also use a 2 liter clear soda bottle after you drank the soda and washed it, cut the top and bottom off and round out the edged. Use double sticky tape to make it more secure. Use a blow dryer to round out the plastic on top before you tape it to the stereo form. so it wound pop out . For mine, since I couldn't find elastic, I glued the styrofoam to a headband on its side. I saw a video while on quarantine. I work in a hospital and was thinking of making these for our doctors but not sure if they met regulations. But, then again, something is better then nothing.

My son on the left was hot gluing the edges of the elastic on the inside of the mask. My older son was hot gluing the foam cushion in the center using about 2-3” bead. I was stapling the already glued elastic 3 times for a very secure headband. If you don’t hot glue the elastic first, you will need to do a lot of fiddling around trying to line up the stapler on the elastic band so you don’t make it crooked or miss the band completely. I did a Zoom tutorial with a retired podiatrist in Florida who made a bunch for her local hospital. They simply didn’t have any face shields at all. All the staff was very upset. Very good idea to make them at home so even those people like myself who the government wrote to, to stay home, can wear these to protect them selves when they are out shopping. I already have a couple of the KN95 face maskes, plenty of disposable rubber gloves, some antibacterial hand jel in my purse/handbag and a couple of the splash shields are on their way. I go out only once maybe twice a week and I am EXTREMELY catious of what my hands are doing. Thank you for sharing this informational video.
Hey doc, just a tiny tip. I don't know if the foam you used is special in any way, but I have bought similar foam in my local (Belgian) DIY- shop to cover up isolation gaps. This foam has one completely sticking side. Maybe it's easier to make your face mask, I couldn't tell you the price or length it was but it looks the same thickness and was also on a roll. yes! I think it may be something you could find in a hardware store here in the states, it's used for insulating windows and doors in the winter, one entire side is sticky
At last I bought the clear sheets the size 14x17 to make sure it will cover the sides well. I can't wait to make it. It's hard to find this sheets on the size and thickness we want. I had to search a lot online the BLICK Art something store delivered to me. And they are expensive, but worth it, 24 sheets. Thank you again.

Great Idea I used mylar sheets made for notebook sleeves! It's Not as thick but it's better than Nothing. E6000 glue or Low Temperature Hot Glue also worked well. And if you can't find elastic you can cut a T-Shirt pull it so it folds too itself and it will stretch! Just my little in a pinch DIY solution 😊😊😊

Thank you for this tutorial. I may not be on the front lines, but I am a dental hygienist and we produce a ton of aerosols on a daily basis with our ultrasonic scalers and handpieces. I can easily make these for staff, since our suppliers are backlogged with orders for these. I live in Texas, and we are gearing towards getting back to work in a couple of weeks.

Just put a big roll of tape over at the corner even it up take a blade and trim it get rounds out very nicely

I reiterate: Dr. Yang - you are a very creative man. I spent years studying Architecture/Italian Design in NYC & in Italy. What you are doing is creating from your imagination. People can also get a hat display form and drape material over it to design their own shaped mask. I have experimented with all kinds of materials, designing several shapes. You can even drape fabric on your face (using yourself like a mannequin). People comment on my colorful masks. I suggest to your audience, that if one has DIY 3M goggles, they protect the eyes and hold up the mask. 🌹🤓🇺🇸🇬🇧

I discovered Halyard H600 it took some time to get all the items together, some were out of stock etc. Downloaded that pattern and now I am ready to make these masks.
I have worked
In the health care field in-hospital and out-EMS.
I am older now. So I stay home.

I'm not a health professional, but I have underlined health issues so I'm more at risk and the regular face masks aren't 100% for keeping the covid virus out, so this face shield provides extra protection. You’re welcome. If you are not a health professional, there are some nice DIY Faceshields which use 2 liter bottles or sheet protectors which are less expensive. It costs about $100 in supplies to make 110 face shields, but the plan was to make them in bulk.

Hospitals have rules and regulations, so I worried if the faceshield is green or uses colorful fabric trim, that everyone would notice that they are not using a hospital approved face shield. These look the same so, if they are wearing it in the hospital, no one will notice that these aren’t the real thing. Hope that makes sense.

It’s okay. I appreciate your comment. I think everything will be okay. Why? In New York, our curve flattened, people stayed home, 50-70% are wearing masks. Many people died, but new cases are going down less hospitalizations. Everyone who needed a ventilator got one.

I just wanted to show my fellow healthcare workers an easy way to make the shields, just in case like insurance. You don’t want to use the insurance but you feel safer know that you have a safety net just in case. This way they feel hopeful less worried.
Now I’m working on making other DIY face mask videos to try to reach as many regular 🇺🇸 or other western countries who want to wear masks, but have not been wearing masks like in 🇰🇷 , 🇹🇼, 🇨🇳 , 🇯🇵.
Most Americans are just getting used to wearing 😷 and may not have any or are reusing dirty ones or touching the outside then touching their face before washing their hands. If we can help them make masks easily, teach and educate how to use them properly or convince those people who don’t want to wear the masks, we can flatten our curve so we don’t have to run out of ventilators or beds.
I’m thinking if I can save some people from getting sick by education each one saved is worth exponentially many more from getting sick which means the healthcare workers don’t have to use as much PPE and see as many sick people, in which some will die. 😔

You can also use a 2 liter clear soda bottle after you drank the soda and washed it, cut the top and bottom off and round out the edged. Use double sticky tape to make it more secure. Use a blow dryer to round out the plastic on top before you tape it to the stereo form. so it wound pop out . For mine, since I couldn't find elastic, I glued the styrofoam to a headband on its side. I saw a video while on quarantine. I work in a hospital and was thinking of making these for our doctors but not sure if they met regulations. But, then again, something is better then nothing.
On another DIY shield vid, large rubber bands were used for elastic.

Made mine from craft plastic masterial and insulating draft stopper from hardwear store and hat elastic. It works so well. I clean and disinfect between each patient. Thank you for the brilliant design.

Assembly method I prefer, not shown on the video which was spur of the moment: instagram.com/p/B-LTyKRDqsP. My son on the left was hot gluing the edges of the elastic on the inside of the mask. My older son was hot gluing the foam cushion in the center using about 2-3” bead. I was stapling the already glued elastic 3 times for a very secure headband. If you don’t hot glue the elastic first, you will need to do a lot of fiddling around trying to line up the stapler on the elastic band so you don’t make it crooked or miss the band completely.

I did a Zoom tutorial with a retired podiatrist in Florida who made a bunch for her local hospital. They simply didn’t have any face shields at all. All the staff was very upset. Very good idea to make them at home so even those people like myself who the government wrote to, to stay home, can wear these to protect them selves when they are out shopping. I already have a couple of the KN95 face maskes, plenty of disposable rubber gloves, some antibacterial hand jel in my purse/handbag and a couple of the splash shields are on their way. I go out only once maybe twice a week and I am EXTREMELY catious of what my hands are doing. Thank you for sharing this informational video.
Hey doc, just a tiny tip. I don't know if the foam you used is special in any way, but I have bought similar foam in my local (Belgian) DIY- shop to cover up isolation gaps. This foam has one completely sticking side. Maybe it's easier to make your face mask, I couldn't tell you the price or length it was but it looks the same thickness and was also on a roll. yes! I think it may be something you could find in a hardware store here in the states, it's used for insulating windows and doors in the winter, one entire side is sticky
At last I bought the clear sheets the size 14x17 to make sure it will cover the sides well. I can't wait to make it. It's hard to find this sheets on the size and thickness we want. I had to search a lot online the BLICK Art something store delivered to me. And they are expensive, but worth it, 24 sheets. Thank you again.

I used mylar sheets made for notebook sleeves!
It's Not as thick but it's better than Nothing.
E6000 glue or Low Temperature Hot Glue also worked well.
And if you can't find elastic you can cut a T-Shirt pull it so it folds too itself and it will stretch!
Just my little in a pinch DIY solution 😊😊😊

I can easily make these for staff, since our suppliers are backlogged with orders for these. I live in Texas, and we are gearing towards getting back to work in a couple of weeks.
