  • In this FL Studio beginner tutorial, I will show you how to convert audio to midi notes in FL Studio. This is a quick and simple way to find the notes of any sample.
This can be very useful if you are struggling to find the key of a vocal for example, or making chords or leads that fit the vocal. This can be done using Edison, and it will work on most audio clips with single instruments or vocals. Extracting midi from audio can be very useful, so make sure to watch the entire video.

This obviously works best on samples that have a certain tonality to them, such as synths, vocals and such.
This is a quick and easy way to get the notes from any sample.
    * You can also use Newtone to do this.
Important note: In older versions of FL Studio there is a bug in Edison that can cause this operation to crash FL Studio when using very long samples. If this happens then try to use a shorter audio sample, or install the newest version of FL Studio. Image-line is constantly working on fixing bugs in the software.

That dump score feature is what I use when I'm fooling around on the keyboard and come up with a new idea but forget to record it. Presto every midi note played in the past hour or so is dumped. Then I copy and paste the notes I like into a new pattern or instrument track. I believe it's located under the Tools tab. I'm sure viewers would love to see you do a video showing how to use the dump score feature in the way I've explained. Great video!

Good suggestion! I'll put this on my list. I actually did show this feature in my FL 20 review video, but only as part of the changes (the ability to choose the time, like last 10 minutes, last 20 minutes etc)

Thanks! Glad you liked the video. We focus on making short and straight to the point videos, usually well below 10 minutes in length. The reason most youtubers make very long videos is because longer videos that keep people on the platform longer will get more watch time, and will therefore get more promotion from the RUclips algorithm. If a video is more than 10 minutes long you'll also be able to put more than one ad on it, which means more ad revenue. So a lot of youtubers tend to drag out the time for that reason.
I started this channel because I wanted to help people out, so I've kept on making short videos, even though I'm aware it's hurting the channel. :)

Ableton and FL Studio handle this way better than I expected. I did it the other way around first. I extracted the vocals with minor audio artifacts, created silence where the artifacts appeared and used some random online free site offering mp3 to midi conversion. I got the melody in like 20 octaves or so. Sounded like haunted black midi haha.
